The Rumour Thread

Sorry if I am completely wrong here but it looks like Ynari are just a soup styled army with Eldar and Dark Eldar? I am not a 40k player and so I don't really get the connection between that blurb and what is presented on the website to be honest. Is it simply the idea of an allied force with a different faith than the core army?

The blurb makes this sound more like a Sylvaneth subfaction with potentially new model support and possible coalition options... is that what Ynari are?

Calling Ynnari "just soup" isn't exactly fair, albeit not too far off, as they do have unique character(s), faction rules, (lore) and restrictions in what units can be included. Somebody here called Ynnari "an experiment" which is probably closest to reality - GW tried moving the setting forward and make Eldar less doomed, but chickened out so now they're stuck in limbo.

The blurb's mention of awakening a god, and the religious, big tent, aspect of kurnothi is what harkens back to Ynnari. If other species beyond Sylvaneth can be Kurnothi, it sounds more than a subfaction for Sylvaneth (but maybe one for CoS heheh)!

The closest thing to Ynnari in AoS would be Legion of the First Prince where it takes units from other armies but the allegiance itself is independent of any armies battletomes

i guessing why people paralleling that excerpt of Kurnothi to Ynnari is because lore wise they both deal with a dormant Aelf/Eldar god who foretold to be awaken/reborn back into the setting

Thanks for clearing it up 😁

Ynari sound like a cool faction* but I am inclined to agree with @novakai that the blurb gives the impression of something akin to Legion's of the First Prince. It is interesting that the dead/resting God concept made me immediately think of Grimnir. I personally feel like Kurnothi will be a warlike subfaction of Sylvaneth featuring a greater emphasis on fauna-aleves with a coalition option for Cities of Sigmar. Kind of like SCE having both Stormkeep and Scions of the Storm. Maybe trading off some of their movement shenanigans for a more direct approach to combat? But I have a feeling that they will be a long way off to be honest if we even get them this edition.

Still I love what we have seen so far and I hope that we do get them eventually. Personally I think that the models released already hint at what to expect namely various heroes, horned Gladeguard/Waywatchers, Wardancer themed Fauns and finally a Centuar styled 'Cavalry'. With the current Sylvaneth range and some of these Kurnothi aelf ideas expanded, I think that the Sylvaneth will end up the coolest of the Aelven ranges. Mix in some Coalition Wanderers and you have an amazing themed army with roots in the old world and that AOS spice.

* I would love to make an army that was a mix Dark Eldar aircaft with Eldar Mechs. Don't love the infantry for either army but love their tech.

It has always been absurd to me that the Eldar are a dying race with utterly superior technology, Yet they send in their troops with little more than card board in terms of armour. And why are they at the fringe of being  a horde army? 😵💫

And let‘s not talk about Eldar unit names, those are certainly names biker gangs of the 80s would love.

However: If the new models look sleek and dynamic I might add them to my Ynnari forces.

I never was much into satyrs as fantasy creatures. Adding pointy ears and Fyreslayer hair doesn't change that. Although I like all the Aelves in AOS (maybe except sl@tshaming edgelord Malerion) Kurnothi do nothing for me and, should they be added to Sylvaneth, I hope they do it in a way that still allows the army to be played without them.

I think the way GW is building their battletomes is allowing different army lists in one book. Like Orruk Warclans/ Gravelords and some older tomes like Gloomspite gitz or even Skaven. Having a Sylvaneth battletome and adding Kurnothi sub army wouldnt surprise me at this point.

So I’ve been directed here to help fulfill your eager rumour needs. I will be the first to say I do not have rule rumours, in fact most people with people in the know have no such info. It’s more vague release schedules.

January - Custodes and Genestealer Cult (40K). No AoS.

February - Tau (40K) and Deepkin (AoS). Water and Fyre Boxset.

March - Fyreslayers (AoS) and Chaos Space Marines (40K)

April - Nothing? (Well a limited Eldar boxset with codex in early April awaiting the late may release. See Below)

May - Eldar (40K)

June - Bonereapers (AoS)

Id like to point out that this has drastically been delayed already, so don’t be totally surprised to see this stretched out even longer.

And before you all ask, no. I don’t have any concrete timeline for anything past this (and this isn’t even concrete). I haven’t heard anything about Chaos Dwarves, Ogors, Skaven or the like. Also this information is provided by a person at a local store who is 100% a play tester and has been part of GWs network since the early 2000s Grey Knight program. He has also given accurate information to us for previous releases. He doesn’t give us rule access due to his NDA.

I am suppose to add that just because a month looks “empty” it doesn’t mean it is. There will be Combat Patrols for Thousand Sons and Grey Knights. Model releases for some of the armies split over two waves extending into other release windows. As well as Vanguard boxes for both Warclans (they’re actually getting two) and Stormcast.

The Fyreslayers box will be with a new unit or an old unit. I want to buy two boxes of Hearthguard Berzerkers but I'm afraid that the new box would bring these models and a new hero

Yeah that sounds like Kurnothi are a good way off, probably a longer term development idea. I like the idea of a faun/centaur army, possibly with other elves, not wild about humans but it depends on how they are done I guess. This probably means Sylvaneth will get expanded on their own then which should be interesting as there is a lot of room for ideas to be explored.

Still hoping we get a few AoS hints or at least news at the festive Preview ..[although the Eldar rumours have reignited my interest in my old army].

This schedule is very believable as it's a pretty modest list. We will see the next two Underworlds warbands, the next Kill team expansion and some specialist games stuff in that window too. I still believe the rumour about Malerion and Duardin but that will probably be delayed until at least autumn.

Hopefully we will see another double release in July. That would bring us to 8 books for the year which is the correct pace of releases assuming we're getting another 3 year edition.

The TOTALLY NOT A WOOD ELF in Cursed City tells me they're planting the seed (hahahaha) of merging the old Wood Elves/Wanderers into the Sylvaneth, probably with a handwave of "well not all the now-Wanderers fled and Alarielle is fine with the enclaves who didn't still hanging around with her".

Whether those are wholly new models inspired by the old range ALA Lumineth or it ends up being a mixture like Daughters of Khaine (old Wood Elves + Underworlds-esq stuff) is anyone's guess.

I would also guess it will turn out something like that.

I dont know what gw is planning to do with Cities of Sigmar and some other ancient armies to be honest. I think its about time some of the ancient models are being squatted (legend) from AoS 3.0 battletomes. Some wont like me for saying this but it just doesnt help the narrative at all and i almost feel bad for some of the old powerhouse armies getting babysit by Stormcast Eternals all the time. I dont think gw still sells a lot of the leftover fantasy models. They also start to feel somewhat out of place. AoS is becomming very much its own thing with its own visual style and larger scale. Also all the people i played fantasy with have already bought newer AoS armies. Has gw said anything about this in recent articles?

I really like Cities of Sigmar and how Games Workshop tried to not throw the baby out with the bathwater. I do hope we get updated sculpts and will admit that there is a major issue with redundancy, but overall I really like the legacy armies in AOS.

But I play Slaves to Darkness and Ogor Mawtribes... so I clearly like old fantasy models.

Dont get me wrong i loved the empire and the different elves and the dwarfs. I just feel like it has become a thing of the past. Even if they do more awesome sculpts like Galen and Doralia von Denst it wont save the old range for me in the AoS setting. I'll gladly buy a whole new human army. Its hard for me to buy into 20 year old models if i want to start with CoS compared to all the new models that look so much better.

This almost looks like LRL but it could be another Eldar thing.

I think it makes sense to keep those older models at least until The Old World rolls out. Once TOW launches, GW can put them all in its range, and make new models to replace them for AoS.
