The Old World post is up:

Just concept art, but confirmation that Tomb Kings are being worked on is already more than I expected.

I don't know if concept art is confirmation. They've "confirmed" working on basically every WHFB faction plus Kislev and Cathay at this point, they can't all possibly get models at release. Keep in mind even a new core book is going to need to have at least some artwork and basic fluff for all of the armies in the game.

I'm reaching the point where I'm getting annoyed at the vagueness of these articles, because we know logically they can't actually be working on every army. Not even 40K gets enough releases to cover half of what ToW updates vaguely allude to supporting in any semi-reasonable span of time.

Yeah, as mentioned it’s really no different than the TK icon we already saw.

It’s all just vaporware hype marketing for now to keep it somewhat relevant. What we get several years from now can look a lot different than what they show today which will become “old news and changes had to be made” by then. 🤷

Exactly. I've been reading these articles for three years and I'm no closer to understanding what it is they're actually making than I was in 2019. They're still not committing to anything in particular, but oh it will be so amazing and stay tuned for 2023, where we'll consider breaking our 2/year update schedule and publish three updates instead!

Looking at older minis on the webstore I think there's probably already stuff for (admittedly not very diverse, but maybe enough to get started with) armies for Dwarves, Wood Elves, Dark Elves, Orcs (but maybe not goblins) Empire Humans, Chaos Humans, Demons, Skaven Skeletons and Zombies. And probably others.

I'm just not sure what's causing all the excitement. That concept art sure does look exactly like the old kits. Would tomb king fans be happy if the big new edition just brought back the old kits? Is that enough?

I loved Warhammer back in the day. I've been in the hobby since second edition but I've moved on and I'm kind of surprised how little any of this moves me.

I like that it sounds as though some of the older kits are coming back into production and even some updates on older kits. Lets hipe the TK chariot is updated with  the Tomb Guard style.

Perhaps it isn't a big stretch to think that they could have more ready for this system when it launches? A bunch of the "current" cities kits would slide right in.

I know I'm hoping for those boar boyz to come back!

I have worked with most of the old TK kits and they are definitely a step down in quality even compared to other Warhammer Fantasy kits. You could probably put the plastic Tomb Guard, snake kit and sphinx kit back into production (although they are notably chonky for skeletons), but the other plastic kits are not up to today's standards. Skeleton troops and archers were an upgrade sprue to a vampire counts skeleton kit that has since been refreshed twice. I upgraded my own horsemen by kitbashing them with the black knight/hexwraith kit, infamously one of the worst current kits in Gravelords/Nighthaunt. The chariots are borderline OK, but very ihr unimpressive compared to newer stuff. And that is not even getting into the slew of old metal/finecast kits that are not even covered. Some of them, like the skeletal giant and skull catapult, are seriously ugly.

No matter what, I think at this point just bringing the old OOP kits back would not cut it. At least some amount of new ones would be necessary or people are going to rediscover why Tomb Kings went away in the first place fairly soon.

A reviewer has let slipped that the next 2 unconfirmed battletomes will be available very soon, so I'm wondering if that means Slaves to Darkness will be released before December.

That would explain the leaks, if they have already received the battletome.

I’m expecting the army set to be out before December but the rest of the range in Jan 2023.

Well the boxset comes with a battletome, so no mystery on the leaks there. Even the early leaks from several months ago were using the special edition battletome from the box. Still I would not be surprised if the STD box is available sooner than most of us assumed.

I’m torn if that’s a good thing or bad thing.

The Fyreslayers & Deepkin early year releases have me gun shy if whoever comes next gets minimal treatment again. xD

Barring on caution I guess Gloomspite and Hedonites would be ideal for the first new year tomes since they have great ranges and just need rule updates. Tho I’m hoping they buck the solo-hero trend with at least a hero + new unit for more meat in the releases.

BY LONG LOST NEHEKHARA I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THIS!!!! On the one hand I now know that Tomb Kings are confirmed..... on the other they're so far away!

Oh @KingBrodd! I wish I could throw them away, but I have spent too much time invested in them to give away the scheming lads!!!

Don‘t even think about dropping Tzeentch for a second unless you wish to end up (and rightly so!) as a glibbering mass of random birdbits and tentacles! 🤗 But I know your heart is in the right place. A second army might‘ve been the plan all along after all…

well if Gitz get a meaty battlescroll update, they probably way further out past Winter, being the last destruction tome, they may be slated to get something a bit more then one hero.

i would assume that they start releasing the Death tomes soon since that GA has been the slowest in terms of battletome releases.

granted i do find people get stuck on the fact that GW doesn't release stuff base on meta on competitiveness but rather on their set production schedule. hence why people are so down on Sons, LRL, and Tzeentch getting a tome first when likely they were always going to get a new battletome this edition.

The Old World will be resin or plastic? Did we already know ?

i think i heard long ago it will be for Forgeworld but i don't even know if that's true

It’s being done by Forge World, but that doesn’t mean as much as it once did - the specialist games team are part of forge world and they do quite a bit of plastic. There will almost certainly be some resin though

I wonder if that means that the old world FW kits will come back. I think I still have a Marienburg Landship somewhere in storage.

I really hope theyre not recycling old molds, and dusting off old stock they have had stacked in warehouses for decades.

I'd like to see all new sculpts, but that's a huge investment in time and materials, to even have a half dozen forces at launch.

Do we know the scale? 25, 28, 32mm? 15 mm epic? (oh god please no) Could GW be going backwards compatible, and allowing you to re-base your AOS armies (hope you saved all your old squares). Soulblight, Cities of Sigmar, Beasts of Chaos, Slaves to Darkness, Skaven, and Seraphon would be easy for direct conversions, since they have so many older models in thier lines. Cities of Sigmar could be broken back intho human, elf and dwarven forces. Its not my favotite solution, but would allow some players to instantly play the Old World, with minimal investment from GW, giving GW time to manufacture and release some new forces.

Probably be a mix of the two. Utilizing a few old armies, and then making 2-3 new available at launch. Kiselv, Brettonians, and Greenskinz are my guess, they seem like like low hanging fruit that would sell well.

Also im betting Beasts of chaos doesnt get a range refresh for AOS until the Old World launches, thereby allowing GW to double dip into 2 markets..... Oh wait, that would actually be a rational plan that makes sense. Scratch that, BoC is getting squatted and relaunched 2 years later in TOE.
