The Rumour Thread

Recommended Posts

Erm Tomb kings weren't popular.  Next to bretonnia they were the worst selling fantasy army, even after the update.

I personally think their rules were partly to blame. From my personal observation people only started to care about TK from a narrative standpoint after Settra said that one line that has now become a meme.

Plus GW essentially gave the reason why they got the axe in the white dwarf.

TK always struck me as a very random faction to kill off when one considers that the entire Fantasy range was selling poorly and yet TK were very distinctive and fairly popular in general - they'd even had quite a few semi-recent models. I'd have afar more expected something like Bretonians to go first. I hold the view that chances are if Kirby had remained in power we'd have seen more and more fantasy factions resigned to a point where fantasy would have become a boutique line of fantasy monsters and models rather than a miniature wargame line.

So I've often felt that TK have potential to be returned to the game at some stage. Of course the more undead factions GW releases with the new aesthetic the less chance there is of a full return; but a partial one could be possible.

With the whole multiple realms and realm gates approach of Sigmar its fully possible to introduce a means for TK to return. A mighty Pyramid that survived the end of the world; coated in magic and hanging in the depths of space; dislodged and drawn toward the plans of the realms when Slannesh breaks his bonds and is freed from his prison. TK crashing into one of the lands and spilling out to establish themselves in this strange new world hot on the heels of a huge Slannesh demon incursion.

A realmgate found mysteriously. Locked with magical runes that are broken by a mage seeking answers/power/discovery/escape. Only for it to open a portal into a strange and vast Citadel of unknown origin, from whence pours the mummified and animated undead defenders of that ancient civilization. Unable to close the realmgate now and yet driven to scourge the world and temple of any infestation of the unworthy who could risk damaging or harming their intombed gods within those dark stone walls.

And a million other arguments. The current Sigmar world is ideal for randomly adding new factions with super deverse backgrounds and visual asthetics.

I think TK where a fan favorite but not an army many people wanted buy and play in (especially since I always heard Ushabti where terrible despite being amazing models), neglect by GW didn't really help either

I remember I saw a list of Most played armies in WHF where I think Chaos, High Elves and surprisingly O&G where at the top and TK where at the bottom just on top of chaos dwarfs and Bretonnia.

Thing is poor rules is GW's own fault and they've seen the pattern that good rules sold armies more than enough times; heck it was a cornerstone of their marketing for decades. So I figure that there were other elements. TK were are pretty modern army; most other companies would not have dropped that significant investment in moulds and product and lore and instead would have reworked rules to promote sales. That's why I figure that whilst they were selling poor; their choice to axe them was likely the tip of the iceberg for a much larger axing of factions. One that, thankfully, did not come to pass.

I think specialist games (Bloodbowl, Nekromunda, Titanicus) will be at FW Open. I would not expect much for the main lines.

Yeah, I think the odds of those at GenCon are small except for the new mini version of BloodBowl which is likely aimed at the board game crowd.

I heard from two unrelated sources that seraphon will be getting an updated tome soon. Before anyone blasts me I refer back to a post i made about legions of nagash before that even was known by alot of people

Only battletome? Looks like a lost opportunity not to add new models and endless spells.

This I can believe. I can't see any of the post-Sylvaneth battletomes getting updated (with the exception of what appears to be the annual Stormcast one) but I wouldn't be surprised if we get new battletomes for those that came out before Sylvaneth.

I'm expecting GW to push out Endless Spells pretty fast for a lot of factions. It's a new mechanic that gives fantasy its own distinct appearance and I can see the pushing it and what better way than not only giving a very affordable magic starting set; but also a slew of endless spells.

I just hope that after endless spells we see some fantastic beasts released too. They have made a lot of noise about monsters and fantasy creatures in the Lore and already we've got Stormcast with a whole host of varied magical mounts.

I would expect that they will release a set of endless spells for each new book that they make.  Given that they have to assign points to these spell releases they are going to be attached to a book release of some kind.  So, they can either make a book release just for endless spells for a bunch of factions similar to malign sorcery or they can just release a model kit with each battletome they release & rework.

My guess is we will see rewritten battletomes as that would probably net more profit.  Each new edition of GW core games usually also has rewrites of most of the army books over time.  Occasionally a book or two gets skipped in an edition, but they usually rewrite most of them.

I am imagining we are going to see the endless spells for all of the new tomes to come, and maybe for Daughters of Khaine and Idoneth Deepkin too since they said they designed them with 2.0 in mind.

Nonsense. This is the most important thread here that works better than any other place in the internet. We have several people that share info that later turns out to be true and which I greatly value. No images or links policy isn't smart but still we have people we can trust by word.

I can imagine GW making endless spells for Kharadrons, Khorne and other non-magical factions if they just aren't lazy. Call them differently, change a bit the rules of casting and unbinding and there you have it.

I hope older armies like Seraphon, Sylvaneth and the like get an updated tome.  They need that way more than new models or existing models getting a new sculpt.

Yeah replacing non plastic models would be a great start. But I also guess new models are more likely to be bought.

My wife and I relaunched Diablo 3 this weekend, I hope GW will release a hydra endless spell: static but missile weaponing every foe within X inches. A great opportunity to board control and a bloody cool model.

I've given up on Diablo 3 to go back to GWminiatures lol. After years of online-games-that-give-nothing-in-reallife, I'm back to something more real.  (no offense here):P

None taken. But as much as I love my squelettons, I also love smashing saves of them electronically with a double handed axe :)

Went back to play World Of Warcraft. I have found that you can find inspiration for the little toy men especially by playing  Blizzards games. Back to rumours, I wonder what release schedule will look, as we know for fact, that  GW will release 3 40k codexes and titan game in coming months.  Also were there not rumours about Darkoath and destruction armies coming?  Slaanesh maybe nearer xmas?

I really, really advice GW that Blizzard games are the last source to get inspirations from. Since WoW or Warcraft 3 all their games look worse (design, colors, blocks, little kids graphics) than unicorn excrements. NO.

There were rumors about moonclan grots and a Slaanesh releases.

darkoath in the other hand have been more or less a wish from players around the world and not really a rumor.

Since we are on the blizzard topic: the original warcraft was originally designed for GW to be a warhammer RTS game or something. GW ended up cutting contract because in their opinion the game wasnt good enough for the GW brand or something, so the game makers changed names and places as well as some races and warcraft was born.

I think there may still be some hate between GW and blizzard because of that. Idk if they ever sued blizz, I imagine they did.

A lot of blizzard stuff takes inspiration from warhammer, probably the other way around too.
