The Rumour Thread

I want to get people's opinion on this as I was discussing it with my partner and he said it had changed his plans for the new Kruelboyz release. Initially he was really excited for it and all of the big monsters, but because the rules and models are taking so long to come out, he's second guessing himself and the hype is dying down.

I'm wondering if this is happening/has happened to anyone else? It does seem that AoS 3 came out with all this uproar and now has shrunk behind 40k and Kill Team, with lots of models we know exist but don't know the rules for and hype is slowly dying down for these new factions.

I feel this for 3.0 in general. It just seems like we are in a hype limbo at the moment.

Well GW have just posted a road map for the rest of the 2021 40k codex releases, although still with keeping mystery around the final 2.

Something like this would no doubt help those people unsure on what's coming down the line.

I noticed that October is completely free of 40k Codexes, which is when the Chaos battletome is supposed to hit. Maybe it'll be a slightly bigger release and not just a book?

It's like being a kid again and watching your mum baking a cake, but for some reason she is just standing there for weeks, why does it take so long? who knows. At first you are impatient, then frustrated, then at some point you hardly think about the cake but become increasingly worried for your mums mental health.

You wake up, it was all just a dream, a slice of cake has been placed on a plate next to your bed, you laugh, how silly you were to question your mum. You bite down... and CRACK your tooth breaks as it crunches down on a primaris lieutenant stuffed inside the cake. With tears in your eyes you hear your mum cackle downstairs, as she sends the real cake out weeks in advance to youtube content creators, while she forces your dad to sue them for stealing the flavor of her cake.

Sounds a bit too real to be made up...

bottom line is that we must stop Primaris Lieutenant from invading our cakes !

It would have to be better than the 40k one honestly. A general release for a codex that people got their hands on a few weeks ago, two codices that are out tomorrow, one we knew was coming, and two with no details.

I don’t think it would ameliorate things, particularly as people’s issue seems to be more with the gap between AoS 3.0’s launch and the release of any tomes. A bit like the situation with the Death Guard codex coming months after they got a big new release as part of the 8th ed. 40k starter kit. It was just too dragged out.

The 40k roadmap is exactly what I expected and I still feel let down, and I don’t even play 40k.

Here’s a roadmap: step 4 is blurred out, I’ve removed all the place names, and it cuts out after step 5 before you reach your destination. Good luck!

It occurs to me that everything negative about the hobby right now is down to communication and mismanaged customer expectations by GW:

* SCE battletome. Reveals start at the end of flipping May, take three full months until it’s in your hands (“available to order in August” 🙄)

* GHB FAQ. When/if one is coming, what’s the scope?

* White Dwarf battletome updates 😒 What’s the scope? Matched play legal? Who and in what order? How long for everyone?

* Hyped up 40k road map that tells you the bare minimum beyond what you already know.

There’s one common thread running through this. Actually, it’s the same poor experience with LRL which we knew was delayed, GW knew we knew was delayed, and yet still didn’t bother to tell us anything remotely useful and instead drip feed small chunks of information out over months

The AoS 3.0 launch was not impressive no. I really enjoy the new edition though and even got dominion, expecting to have battletomes follow in short order, but with the release endlessly dragging on, I have not even gotten the motivation to paint any of the dominion models. I got limited time and paint for events I want to take specific armylists to, and with no book I got no direction or plan.

With an even coming in October this constant dragging out from what I expected would be a lot sooner has been extremely frustrating and I will end up with way too little time now, to paint up and do what I wanted to do for the event. These new battletomes should have been on preorder no later than a month after the release date of dominion.

But what can you expect, there is not even a FAQ out yet for GHB21. Combine this with the content creator fiasco GW should consider a bit more transparency and reconnect with tier customers and community.

This is my same problem. Why are the BTs being dragged out so long?

What would not have let you down? If they announce everything way ahead of schedule, they get complaints about dragging things out.

I'm not sure GW can please everybody as what ever method they seem to choose, a portion of the playerbase will complain :S

That’s exactly what a road map is. GW set that expectation, not me

This. They can never win.

They release a road map, people complain its to long a wait for what they announced.

They don't release a road map, people complain they don't know what's coming.

They could give away a free model with every purchase and people would complain they don't give away 2 free models.

I'm quite happy there is nothing for AoS at the mo, means I'm not spending money and have time to paint some backlog.

There’s a difference between ridiculous complaints and fair criticism. I agree that a lot of the time GW can’t win, but their codex roadmap is basically useless. We already knew most of it and the bits we didn’t we still basically know nothing.

This is titled 'Who is getting a new codex in 2021' - and the blog doesn't answer that question. It tells you there's 6 codices coming, tells you who 4 of them are, all of which we already knew, and then hints at 2 others without telling who they are. So it has set an expectation and not met it, which is why it's frustrating. I assume the other 2 are Custodes and Tyranids maybe? I dunno. But it's certainly not 'everything they know'.

BIG WAAAAGH! BONUS! FINALLY!!!

Bonesplitterz bonuses are changed from +1hit to +1wound.

Kruleboyz balista is crazy.

The spells are great.

I'm thinking Imperial Guard and Craftworlds for the two codexes coming in December.

Looks like a relatively big release in October for AoS orrrrrr some specialist game stuff clogging the month up.

I'm thinking maybe one small release for aos in November followed by a larger release in Jan / Feb (we normally see one).

I would be pretty disappointed if we only get 3 post 3rd ed battletomes before the end of the year.

I was kind of in the same boat with the Gravelords release, where we also knew way in advance that something would be coming. It's difficult: You try to be positive about the release and try to stay excited over several months, and I think that can easily lead to overhyping yourself and maybe just kinda setting yourself up for disappointment no matter what.

I think Gravelords turned out well in the end. Some criticisms of the book that I still stand by not withstanding, I think they are overall a fun to play army that allows for several good types of list. I honestly expect Kruleboyz to turn out the same at this point, as well. However, much like Gravelords, I expect there will be a periode of coming back around to the book for many people after the book and model range initially don't match up with their expectations.

I don't think this is mainly the fault of players for getting over-excited either. This is just the danger of long hype periodes, and I expect GW are aware of that. I'm pretty sure they would release everything faster if they thought it was possible.

Anyone else think it might be problematic for one shooting unit to put out 12 damage shots?

I know mega gargants are a bit silly but…

It might only be one shot. Of course, to be fair, that shot will probably be a chunk of mortal wounds with the kruleboy poison rules.

So the way the article is written, particularly the "Brave Shootaz" section, it makes it seem like you can take subfactions in Big Waagh!. It mentions Big Yeller Boltboyz and then adding in Bonegrinz Arrowboyz. Was that how it worked before, or am I just reading this wrong and it's talking about if you played Kruleboyz or Bonesplitterz exclusively?

If you can buff it with the Pot Grot, I guess that means each 5+ equals +1 damage and a Mortal Wound. I also have to assume that there's no cap on the MWs since it's separate from the damage.

Nah, that's impossible and it would make BW the only one logical option

No sure about that. You do as many mw as your dmg characteristic.

When you calculate their dmg, skewered has a max cap at 12 (so, between 2 and 12 mw for each 5+shoot buffed by venoms).

That's my interpretation at least.

No that’s a bit backwards.

Damage = total number of wounds 5+, up to 12.

Mortal Wound is on a 6. When you roll the 6 you then roll the damage. As MW = damage it’s still capped to 12.

PotGrot increases the Mortal Wound roll from a 6 to a 5.

MWs are determined as normal damage with the new core rules.

Yeah, you'd calculate the damage characteristic for the weapon then turn it into Mortal Wounds equivalent, rather than stacking the two together or whatever.

The Beastskewer could be good against monsters depending on the rest of its stats and ROF, but I fear it risks being a damp squib if it's subject to the RNG of just having a single shot, and if it just has this rule, it'll struggle to do much against regular infantry despite its flavour text of punching through the ranks.
