Pyrescribe
They always say, "new year, new army." I scoffed until a blizzard came and along with it came three Beastclaw Raiders boxes. In trying to round out my collection, I not only want an army from each Grand Alliance, but one that is themed for each of the four seasons; and to have a diversity of playstyles. Because I have Lumineth (Autumn) and Slaves to Darkness (Summer), I decided to be a basic bro and go with winter Ogors. That means I'll have to make a Spring themed Death army someday. Having an army of fast, big multiwound monsters also helps round out the control style of the Lumineth and the grinding attrition of my S2D. I've been lucky to play five games already, and only lost once so far. I've been taking my time converting and accessorizing this army and it's just a tremendous amount of fun. Did you start a new army this year? Why did you do it? How is it coming along? Did it fall short of, meet, or exceed your expectations?
EccentricCircle
No new AoS army for me this year, as I have lots of chaos tribes to paint from last year's still, and a box of half painted goblins from the year before for that matter. That kind of hasn't stopped me starting a genestealers army for 40K though... I mean, that's a completely different system... right... right? amysrevenge
Going great starting with Skaven this year. I still haven't played a game since before Covid, but I'm having a delightful time painting.
Enoby
Kind of starting a new army in that I'm building up Slaves to Darkness for a Path to Glory army. Now, I say "kind of" because I had quite a few S2D models to use in my Hedonites and they're being reused here, but I've added quite a few things I wouldn't normally use. I've also done a tonne of writing for the army, mostly just to exercise my writing muscles, but I was thinking of posing it here at some point.
Sonnenspeer
I got the Blade-Carnival for Christmas, so Slaanesh is my new army for 2022. Hope to combine them with my S2D army, that never made it to 2000p. I'm happy with what I managed to finalized so far... But the new IDK battletome might be a distraction
mojojojo101
Not so much a new army but was going to put some effort into a Nurgle army I've been slowly accumulating for a few months now... well, I've done absolutely nothing, not even opened the SC box I bought for Xmas. Its just not been a great start to the year, nothing overly bad per se, just stressful and have had trouble concentrating on anything. Have pretty much finished my Shadow Queen though which I've been working on for quite a while, actually being this close to finishing something is really getting me reinvigorated to spend more time on hobblying.
Noserenda
Been revamping my old Eshin army since i think late December so that kinda counts? I lost all my practice games but my PtG force is currently undefeated and now i have a Verminlord ho ho ho Rebasing and touch ups was satisfying, scratchbuilding some gnawholes was awesome fun and the Verminlord and Endless spells were good too, looking forward to more games!
Kadeton
I started a Nighthaunt army - I've always liked the models, and someone locally was selling off their assembled but unpainted models at a good price, so I jumped at the chance. So far it's been purely a hobby project. I'm trying to train myself into some better habits with painting, mainly breaking the habit of taking way too long to get anything done. There's a 1000-point casual tournament next month, so I've set myself the goal of getting a fully painted force ready for that. So far it's going great - incidentally I've just bought a whole bunch of different flowers to use for basing, so I've got your Spring-themed Death army right here.
Fulcanelli
I've started Ironjawz for Path to Glory. I wanted to try this system, but I've limited free time, so I can run a small force with IJ. Lovely models, but I'm slow at painting them
Neil Arthur Hotep
I got a few Nurgle guys as a gift in Decemeber, but have been working on mostly Cities of Sigmar stuff so far this year. I don't have a lot of opportunities to play games right now, so there is no pressure to actually get a functioning army on the table. So I am just painting models I feel excited about in the moment. I still plan to build that Nurgle army out to at least 1000 points, though. Which is, like, another 8 models. 8
The Brotherhood of Necros
I started a gaggle of swamp-themed Gloomspite. Night Goblins we’re one of the first things I painted and collected as a small boy and I found myself feeling very nostalgic, so that was that. It’s going slowly but I’m enjoying taking my time over them. Trying to give each grot a sense of character. 🌙 IMG_8464.MOV 11
zilberfrid
I have started doing sci fi stuff, and it's going well. The mountain of grey and colourful plastics has increased, but I also have 10 orks and 10 guards ready. In contrast to my fantasy stuff, I am going all in with terrain and vehicles this time, to be able to portray the different planets and stations my party will visit, as well as their own craft.
Skreech Verminking
From a skaven mixed clan painting project I went down towards the mono clan skryre, and well was able to not only paint 3warplightning cannons, but also converted another 6rattling gun weapon teams. With the only ever having existed skaven special model, I now finally have around 2500points of clan skryre painted and of course to finish off my ratastic year, I went along converting another piece of art for my beloved skaven. say hello to the desecrated swampy lizard, that now can be considered a brood horror. And of course no orc is ever allowed to ride such a malevolent beast into battle, so that green-thing got exchanged for a clalword. 4
Lightbox
I haven't so much started a newww army though I guess my slaanesh could count as I only had like 2 of the models built for it prior to this year 😅 Otherwise I've been making a renewed effort to work on my Idolator slaves to darkness and hopefully will ready them for some games soon. I am debating a new project for once I'm done with my chaos, I have my eyes on potentially either a shark based idoneth project or maybe ogors... for that I'm considering either sea monster & pirate themed or cathay esque terracotta ogor soldiers with troops riding on the backs of them. But I'm sure whatever I land on will be something ridiculous

readercolin
My "new" army for the year is Sylvaneth... And none of it has left it's boxes yet. However, I also have been going through my backlog of other stuff and finished painting and basing 50 phoenix guard, finishing that project off, and I've been going though and converting a bunch of old high elf archers and glade guard into shadow warriors, and have 50 of them on my painting table. I also have almost finished up painting 4 stormdrake guard. And most of this is because I look at my Sylvaneth and go "ehhhh... Not today". So at least even though I haven't started with my new army yet, I am at least making progress on other stuff... Right?
Neverchosen
I am in a weird place as I started my Ogors towards the end of last year and it is carying forward to now. My army project for 2022 is meant to be the SCE side of Dominion plus some models a friend is giving me... So I kind of have two projects on the go.
Ferban
I started an SBG force at the tail end of last year. So that became my "new army" for this year. Painting 80 zombies is no joke. Any individual model isn't painted to my usual quality. But on the table, the quantity you see has a quality all its own.
Nos
I'm just about to start a Path to Glory campaign with my Kruleboyz. I've done a Plog elsewhere but they're basically a homage to the low fantasy, earthy toned orcs and goblin art of the early 80's or so, the models just shouted for that treatment to me. 13
Wordy9th
Having done well with Soulblight at a recent tournament, the warp overtook me and I bought roughly 3k points of Slaanesh. Really looking forward to trying out bright and colourful colour schemes and a different playstyle, compared to the drab and cold look of soulblight and grindy attrition of the playstyle.
Lavieth
I have begun to accumulate some Maggotkin of Nurgle miniatures in the hopes to begin them in the fall. I only have about 28 Sylvaneth miniatures left to paint before they are all done (Battletome depending). However, before I can start Nurgle I need to get onto my Adeptus Custodes for a local narrative campaign I'm going to run.

Fairbanks
Sometime around July of last year I started fleshing out my own setting that I wanted my solo battles to take place in in the AoS universe. I've been detaching it ever since so I can make it truly my own setting, and found focus on what my first major campaign event is going to be. Around late December I finalized the lists that I want, mostly out of stuff I already had, and have been building 6 massive armies to fill them out, the whole selection somewhere around 20,000 points. Hoping to be done building by end of April. If you're wondering how I'm going to paint it all; piecemeal. Models get more paint based on how well they do in the battles.
Twisted Firaun
Much like @Enoby I didn't really start a "new" army, and instead I'm just expanding on my armies from 2021. I'm having my Slaves to Darkness and my Soulblight Gravelords, as well as their allies, fighting in the Soul Vine Bayou, with the Kruleboyz using the conflict to capture slaves and hostages for the lolz. Currently I'm working on writing some lore on the major players in both factions, particularly the vampire portion of my Gravelords and how they interact with the local skeletal nobility. I'm also converting the Changeling to be an Arabian Nights styled Nighthaunt character, showing the chaotic degradation and subversion of the local culture. stratigo
I actually did start a new army this year. Eldar. For 40k. Life as a KO player has left me kind of down on AoS. The army oscillates from brutally overpowered to hilariously underpowered and either way it's... not that fun to play. I have largely concluded that KO is the tau of AoS, at a core design level it doesn't seem to be able to play the game in a way that's interactive. And there isn't another AoS army that inspires me aesthetically
