The Rumour Thread

I’m sorry, but if the only style difference between Malerions elves and the Daughters of Khaine is that their whips are plain instead of braided, then it’s going to be such a dull release, because apart from that it looks exactly like a DoK model. I don’t get why so many people seem to be happy with a new faction looking so much like an existing faction? Malerions elves are the thing I’m most excited for in AoS too, and I’m going to be very disappointed if they’re just DoK 2.0.

I am kind of worried about that, too. I figured they would do a Lumineth style reinvention of the dark elf aesthetic with Malerion. Just doing dark elves again when we already have the old models in Cities, Daughters of Khaine and even Dark Eldar in 40k seems like a bit of wasted potential. That's actually why I am not convinced we are looking at a Malerion elf here. After such a long time, GW must have something more interesting in store, right?

The question then is just what that model could be instead. I don't see Daughters or Dark Eldar (or Darkling Covens, lol) getting a new main game release anytime soon. If Underworlds is off the table, that leaves Warcry, Cursed City or a promo model. Since the Khainite Shadowstalkers are already Warcry Daughters of Khaine, my guess is Cursed City. Or, like, Killteam maybe.

That is an interesting take. I perfectly get what you mean and as a first reaction I was very much inclined to agree... But in what ways could Malerion's faction differ, especially after the stealthy shadowy theme is also represented in Khainite Shadowstalkers?

On a first glance less skin and more armor and flowy fabric like scarves could be a given. Helmets are a thing that Daughters typically don't wear, but they mustn't remind one too much of the Daughter's coronets/headpieces. Jagged daggers would also be too similar, so probably things like spears again? In the Lunineth tomw shadowy demon-like creatures are mentioned. Instinctively I would expect something with leathery bat wings, like that one Malerion artwork. But leathery bat wings are very much present in Daughters as well, with the Kinerai and the Goddess / Queen B**** of Ulgu herself.

What would your ideas be as to make Malerion's Aelves unique from the Daughters of Khaine? This question goes out to the rest of the community as well.

I know it’s an incredibly vague answer, but I’m hoping for something weird from them. What that looks like, I don’t particularly mind. Me and a friend were discussing them before and he mentioned the idea of an almost biomechanical look, and a kind of stilsuit idea, which I actually did a sketch of a while back, but it’s not something I’m actually expecting from them.

i assume that DoK would eventually get a 3.0 tome just because their last tome is not written for this edition and some of the old tech doesn't match well with the new ruleset. maybe it's too soon but i feel the last tome was supposed to have been release in 2020.

i want to say that whip model is more for Sigmar since if it isn't then there only one clear model that for AoS and the other 6 are clearly for mainline 40K. but i wouldn't rule out it being something Killteam now that they are releasing those specialist teams for that game, if it is AoS i think most likely a Darkling Coven Hero for Cursed City much like how the rest of the heroes are

Aelves infused with shadow, gaining some monstrous features, a bit akin to D&D Tieflings but more thematic. Robes that move in unseen ways, very flowy in general. A tad crooked, too. Distorted mirror images of the Lumineth‘s perfection.

Oh. And with spikes, and spikes on their spikes. 😉

Fundamentally a DoK Umbraneth soup seems to make sense. If I remember correctly when the warcry warband was released they said they were umbraneth and in the lore they are at Morathi’s service if I recall correctly.

No, that was someone photoshopping and editing the article to say Umbraneath. The original article never had Umbraneath and term was made up by someone to fit with Lumineath word

Its really crazy how that name has infiltrated the rumors since that fake.

In general i'd absolutely put money on Dark elves being something turned up to 11 if Lumineth are anything to go on. Lots of cloaks, shadows and mist effects galore.

I'm kind of expecting this week's New Model Monday is one of the missing Dark Imperium Death Guard options. I believe the Lord of Contagion, Blightbringer and Plaguecaster are all in need of new models rather than continuing to manufacture the sprue from Dark Imperium. Although I'd take anything AoS or Eldar over that.

I’m not sure.

If umbraneth follow the neck breaking fashion of the lumineth, I could see them more often used in a hospital, to show the patients what happens, when they overdo their costumes for the next big comicon event rather then being bought by players

Double down on the mist and shadows aspect. Give me weird shadow aelves. Demons with wings of mist. Something that looks like it could lurk under my bed. I mean, the only Malerion aelf we have ever seen is just weird and I love her for it.

I do love this model. We’ve also had a whole Warcry band with a similar look, might it double up? I am assuming DOK may get sucked into Malerion elves as a sub faction.

Are you sure? I hate to be the person who barges in with 'Source?', but I could swear I saw it myself at the time and even sent a screenshot I took to a friend. Maybe this is some heavy Mandela Effect (no, not me travelling to another dimension, but me misremembering things, ie, false memory) going on but...

I thought some of the lore snippets suggested something ‘terrible and majestic’. I’d say malerion’s troops will incorporate a lot of monsters/daemons/creatures.

also, there was another elf in the silver tower set that everyone seems to forget about…

I mean I saw the article when it first launch and it didn’t have Umbraneth if that what you mean

It bothered me enough to dig up the picture I sent back in 2020 and let it be known it is the same one Goonhammer had posted, meaning it's just that one image circulating online. False memories are funny as had you put a gun on my head I'd have claimed to have seen it myself, hahah

Sadly it probably will be. That or the teased Eldar character.

I'm disappointed to hear that umbraneth was a fake. I've been thinking that was a great name , and a nice riff on the theme.

I've been envisioning them as being more like the Shadar Kai from D&D. They are corrupted elves from the plain of shadow, who are a bit like Dark Eldar turned up to eleven with a bit of slaanesh mixed in.
