Yeah, though it's out of date, the rules content in these books is actually fairly scanty. There's a good few scenarios but a lot more background and art, including a lot of wonderful little illustrated snippets about the dozens of famous regiments that took part.

Curiously the End Times books also got as much if not more art commissioned for them than your average 'update' AoS 1st ed. battletome. It's good stuff.

So it's probably a mix of selling something during the epidemic, promoting the game and reminding people (especially the in denial bunch) it's the Horus Heresy of Age of Sigmar and will be treated as such.

Look at it less like that and more that it's new members of the Mortal Realms Tall Awesome Hat Convention to set beside them and Nagash.

Where there is only one tiny polar bear with no armor in the future of warhammer, but in the past kislev is teaming with giant bear mounts and makes use of magic ice weapons... surely lost technology similar to 30k to 40k... is basically global warming and animal extinction of the old world.

 

im all for cool stuff. I just don’t see how giving them things in the not far past makes sense given none of it was present later in the game in context of just trying to retrofit the old world to be cool with new stuff for the sake of it rather than just bring it back to be cool with things that have a precedent To be there

Oh dude, Kattanaks would freeze then eat anything from Kislev alive while the hordes of magical ice-weapon bearing Bonesplitterz and Everwinter Beastclaw specialists would hunt the monstrosities in turn.

The Kattanak and other Ghur beasties are definitely something I want for Beastgrave or a Ghur warband transported to Warcry's Varanspire. Would be even more epic for these kinds of realm monsters to prowl the battlefields.

Edit: Oh whoops, you meant the immediate future ( distant past?) of Franz's era.(I thought you were comparing the polar bear to some exotic beast mount in AoS as a jest )

I didn't realize until you edited in that second statement.

Meh, just seems a glorified made-to-order to me just with Forge World throwing in cool stuff instead. They definitely are putting AoS' player interests first(and  trademark safer high fantasy stuff) while throwing some nostalgia bones around. (Izalend Freeguild players would love that stuff for their magic-frozen coast Ghurians)

Imho, people give to much credit to an underdeveloped Kislev that only was used to support some narrative and an old Army Book. GW sells minis, they are going to fit them in their own story, creating new narrative for an underdeveloped eras to support whatever they want. 

It's exactly what they did before.

Here’s a rumour. When they get round to it, the Sons of Behemat novel will be written by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I used to work at the same law firm as him in Leeds and we often discussed whether he would write a BL novel. Since he’s gone full time as an author, he’s hinted several times on Twitter that he’s writing something for them and this would suit his writing style (IMO)

I love some of Adrian Tchaikovsky's stuff so if that was real it would be very exciting.

Although personally, I can't see what I love about his style translating to AoS - I'm a huge fan of his world building and the slow reveals/opening of those worlds. Not sure he would be able to pull of that trick in an established world such as AoS. Exciting if he did though!

Damn, that'd be a catch for BL. Not wild about his stuff one way or the other but he's won enough awards and got enough attention that he'd probably be the highest profile dude in their stable. Children of Time was a big, big deal.

If it's through the eyes of a gargant then it would be like the opening of a new world.  Both figuratively as we see the realms from that new perspective and possibly literally since some lore has gargant origins coming from other worlds which could be used in hidden sub-realms the god-beasts and their children were said to fled to in "Soul Wars".

Either way this is a very exciting rumor that's got my fingers crossed.

I am just so excited because if they go that route that would be incredible to read and to hear what a Gargants view of the world is and also if they go the traditional route of a Human perspective we get to see just how Destructive and to what scale they can truly be. 

I personally would love for the Sons novel to feature a group of Disppossed moving to a large settlement in Ghur or Ghyran to work for the local population to help them build, mine and expand into a full fledged city but upon getting there find a Gargantuan* hole in one of the walls and a section of the Settlement has been destroyed thus them turning to Mercenary work and it becoming a bit like the Hobbit with the Duardin on an adventure to hunt down and kill this group of Gargants that have been pillaging.

If in Ghur they could recruit a local tribesman as a guide or in Ghyran a trio of Wanderers perhaps.

The fun thing is that in the lore they can go all out with the mega-gargants as they already mentioned some are close to the size of their father so if the ones harassing the Ghur village get in trouble they start shouting for their brother which confuses the duardin until everything shakes and the mountain starts moving(reveal that the miners were unknowningly digging into his boney back for what they called "pale diamonds", concentrated calcium deposits, which angered the brothers when they found out).

This would be awesome. Tchaikovsky would easily be the best author that has ever written for BL. His novels "Guns of the Dawn" and "Redemptions Blade" are both excellent. The first is if Jane Austen wrote "The Things They Carried." The second is a "how do we rebuild society after defeating the Dark Lord." Highly recommend.

I've been wondering for a bit, how is the sales split now. As in, how much of the pie is AoS?
I remember reading rumour numbers from a while ago, 2017-2018 maybe where it was almost 30%. Was wondering where post 2.0 and book refreshes have brought things up to.

GW won't give official numbers so rumours are all there is to go off.
