  1. If you don't mean the give away book from some convention you won't have luck. Those stories shouldn't be part of the campaignboik. The shortstories were published on MalignPortents.com which was shut down weeks ago and is now redirecting to ageofsigmar.com . Someone read the stories on Youtube so this could be a source as well or if someone still has the epubs.
  2. I think the problem with the old characters is that they either had to be in the Realm of Chaos and are coming back (like Gotrek) or a god remembered them and forged them that way. In the lore of Neferata, Mannfred and especially Arkhan it is mentioned that Nagash Created them, the way he remembered them in the old world and because of this they are bound to him (with the productplacement that the 3 mortarchs were new models in the Endtimes like Nagash himself, and wasted potential not bringing them into AoS). Bringing back another Carstein for example would most likely raise some questions like, "why didn't we hear about him before" or "why had Nagash thought, that he needed another Carstein now". In fact Katakros was already a weird one in case of lore, with his imprisonment by Sigmar in a Stormvault, but it should be easier to create new Mortarchs instead of trying to bring old once back.
  3. Considering the Battletome of 2019, the source of his downfall is unknown, but that he lost the favor of Nagash and became a monster a Nagashs punishment. The first mentioning of the spreading delusion was actually after Sigmar smashed the cage and the Carrion King tried to rebuild his court
  4. The "Ranks unbroken by Dissent" Rules only exist if the army has Ossiarch Bonereapers Allegiance which includes relentless discipline points. If you use the Death Allegiance you get nothing of the specific Allegiances only the stuff you find in the Corebook on 252-253. If you don't use the Ossiarch Bonereaper Rules your Ossiarch Bonereaper units use the same rules as all other armies. They have to take Braverychecks and they use Command Points and use Command Abilites the same way a Ghulking, Vampirelord or Wight King would do. Not using the generic Command Abilities is only a Ossiarch Bonereapers Allegiance thing because they are basicly creating about 5-10x the Points with Ranks unbroken by Dissent compared to the regular Command Points.
  5. Looking at the Carrion King also known as (Sumeros Summerking, the Blood-Rose Prince and Ushoran the Handsome), he already was a Vampire in the Age of Myth. The Ghouls we know as flesh-eater Courts and there delusion came after he was imprisioned by Nagash. I don't know if Deathlords and Mortarchs should be exactly the same (because you wouldn't need 2 Names for the same thing). Maybe it's more the case that the strongest Deathlords are the Mortarchs. Temra ven-Drak in "Nagash: Undying King" was also called a Deathlord in the end, and the Source is from February 2016, a time where the lore still was in it's beginning. We don't even know what GW wanted to do with Deathlords and Mortarchs back then.
  6. If your army would be Grand Alliance Death (not Legions of Nagash), your Battleline Options would everything that has the Role "Battleline" without being "Battleline if", so: Crypt Ghouls Dire Wolves Skeleton Warriors Zombies Chainrasp Horde Kavalos Deathriders Mortek Guard The mainproblem should be that the Death Allegiance Abilites should be quite weak. You only have Deathless Minions as Battletrait, 6 Command Traits and 6 Artefacts. So no special Lores for example. And Command Points should be a problem as well. It is stated in the Ossiarch Bonereapers FAQ that they use command Points for the Abilities if they don't use the Ossiarch Bonereapers Allegiance: The problem is, that command Points are far more restricted.
  7. They exist partly. Most of the time some of the Heroes have the same keyword as the units. If we take the example with the bloodthirster from above and change the keyword to Bloodletter, we would buff Bloodletters, all Heralds, Blood Crushers as well as the Skullcannon. If we ant this, it's okay, but if we don't want this we need another keyword to help us out. In some cases GW doesn't really know what they want to do with the Keywords, we acutally see this with the ruling that subtitels on the warscroll are ignored in Battalions. In case of the Tzaangor Enlightened you can put the models on Foot or on Disk into the Battalion that only has the warscrolltitle in it, while they simply could have been used the Keyword in such cases instead of putting a hole into the description how the using of the Warscoll Title works. In case of 40k it is the problem that buffs mostly work on all units of that faction, so a Space Marine Lieutenant buffs a Captain, a Tank or whatever has the same faction, so we have characters hitting on 2+ rerolling 1.
  8. I actually have the english books for 7-8 Edition but the time I was playing the game was more 4-6 where I used the german books, so I never really memoriesed the english terms. The "Close Support" and "Heavy Support" could actually have been a Space Marine Lore thing how Space Marines are ordered into in the companies. The reason is most likely that someone from germany has more reason to post in an english community than an english speaker to post in a german community. Sometimes I have some translation hickups so I hope it is understandable what I write.
  9. You have to ask for permission because it is a Legends Pitched Battle Profile but other than that it shouldn't be a problem because you only need the Orruks Keyword (which Greenskins have). Keep in mind that there was a Grand Alliance Destruction Errata, that changed the rules for Waaagh! and Waaagh Banner after Orruk Warclans was released.
  10. I'm looking forward what the change in 40k will bring for AoS but I think most of readers could have the wrong first conclusion For all who are not into 40k. 40k has the following subgroups inside their detachments (HQ, Elite, Core, Close Support, Heavy Support, Lords of War, Structure and Flyer), I'm acutally not sure if I have the real translation in case of Core, Close Support or Heavy Support because in German the categories are called "Standard", "Sturm" und "Unterstützung". Those are losly our Leader, Battleline, Behemoth, Artillery, others. Now to the article. The Core Keyword they want to give is not restricted to the units in the core section as it looks like when reading the article, instead units of multiple Sections will get the core keyword (the mentioned Terminators which are Elite, Bike Squads which are Close Support). The point of the Core Keyword is to restrict Abilities and Strategems (which are basicly our Command Abilities, but not bound to a hero). At the moment, looking at the article it is basicly a restriction (as all keywords were before), who will be the target of an Ability. So, as a example I take a Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage. If his Command Ability would be changed that only units with the Core Keyword would be target, he, other Bloodthirsters or Heralds wouldn't be Target anymore. Instead for example only Bloodletters, Bloodcrusehers and Flesh Hounds (if those would have the Core Keyword). Looking at AoS, many Abilities and Command Abilities are already restricted to a subfaction, so the factionrules or corerules are often the part that are not restricted to one subfaction. So now coming back to AoS and the idea above. It's basicly a blessing and a curse at the same time that AoS Lore is quite open in case of their armies. The closest thing of how an army of a faction should look like are basicly the Battalions. If GW would for example change that some Abilites/Command Abilites would only affect "Battleline units" it would make more sence to take them, bringing the army maybe closer to the point how it should look like. After we already have this thread:
  11. Yeah, they can be used in AoS but it is actually a weird case. The units are often quite small compared to other unis They are basicly Named Characters / units In the Lore they normally are in Shadespire or somewhere near it (so it doesn't make much sense lorewise to include them into your army) The bases most likely will not fit to the rest of your army. I have the feeling the underworlds warbands partly make more sense to build a Warcry Warband (because you need less models) or as alternative sculps for existing units. We don't know what a Lumineth Warband will look like but if it is for example 1 Alarith Stoneguard , 2 Vanari Wardens und 2 Vanari Sentinels, why would you play such a mixed unit inside your army?
  12. Yeah, it won't be the case. There was a time (until 5. Edition 40k) where Forgeworld units were included into the codex (or GW added units that didn't have a model) later, only units were included that had models (because of third party model companies). At least since then GW never included Forgeworld units or equipment into the book. We already see that Gloomspite Gitz didn't include the Squig Gobba, Colossal Squig or Troggoth Hag and Orruk Warclans doesn't include the Rogue Idol.
  13. The Tank Commander has the Steam Tank Keyword (I don't have the Warscroll in front of me but I think so) and he is in range of m model that has the Keywords Ironweld Arsenal and Hero . So yes he can.
  14. An official Wiki would make some things easier to have consitent lore, but it would be most likely behind some sort of Paywall. The english lexicanum is doing a quite good job as a community project in that case (the german variant is a mess because it combines whbf & aos inside articles (worse than the english side before the split). In that case I try to get the best results with sigmarpedia (but it still needs much time because I'm only working for 11 month on it). Yeah, collectors item would be a bad thing, but it should most likely be a little higher quality than GHB quality.
  15. Okay, I think it's time to bring this thread back up. After I basicly had spend November 2019 - August 2020 mostly on a german AoS Wiki where was not much painting in the first halve of the year for my projects. At the end of August I started painting again First, for my Assassine Guild I painted the following Shadow Warriors 1 Duelists 1 (Bleakswords) Assassine 1 Dark Riders 1 Than I build a third unit of Duelists and something I called a Executioner Captain I also have written Amboss Rules for him, but those are at the moment in german and I can't use my app at the moment (so I just leave the german variant here) As a different Topic. With the review of "Shadow & Pain" I got some kind of "Snake Fever". My Melusai were spreading rapidly. This is the amount of Melusai Models I have at the moment: 30 Blood Sisters (3x10 Models) 15 Blood Stalkers (3x5 Models) 5 of them Painted since the weekend My Bloodwrack Medusas (including the Shrine) I'm acually trying to get Melusai as bodyguards but I have to look how they fit (first picture with 1 bodyguard, second with two but the positions aren't clear yet) But in the End, the Shrine is not Centerpiece enough. So I converted Morathi into a monstrous snakelady without wings as my "Serpeant Queen Serpentine" I really hope the back isn't to ugly when painted, I'm not really good with Greenstuff (normally only making chainmail and fur). She got an Amboss Warscroll too (where the body basicly is a monstrous mount). Like the executioner Captain above, only the german variant at the moment
  16. Yeah the Point with the Runefather and Runemaster is clear. Some heroes sould only be on the field once. In case of the Hearthguard, they are not only bodyguards they are the Defenders of the Forge temple. Looking at it this way, if the Scenario is "Defending the Forge Temple" it can make sense to have them as Battleline (it's rarely the case but still). So the problem of the normal battleline is that they don't have the numbers some times? It works for Skaven where you get 20 Clanrats for the same price as 10 Stormvermin but it doesn't work for example for Stormcast Eternals with Liberators that cost nearly the same as Sequitors. So maybe we are more the narrative gaming type. I really like it when I can create an optical theme
  17. Actually both. There was Knight Questor Larissa Shadowstalker as a Store Anniverary Model and Leena Stormspire the Liberator Prime that is a Store Opening miniature. And there are two female Knight Incantors because Xandria Azurebolt the Knight Incantor of the Mortal Realms series is female too. I think the problem is partly because models need years to be produced. The Fyreslayers came out first at the start of 2016, about halve a year after AoS startet (I actually have to look if the Fyreslayer Queen was a thing in the first one and the models created in the time were successors of the WHFB Slayers. The first time I read about was in The Volturung, but there, they mostly were workers (the fiancee of the ruleson that became a runelord for his own lodge worked in the mines). Since 2016 we had 1 single new model with the Doomseeker (also released in 2016) so we had no new Fyreslayer models in 4 years. Do we know how many years it takes until models are ready? In the lore or art it is easier because It doesn't take that long. (until 2017 we had 2 female Stormcast Models. Since 2018 we have at lease 10-13 models in the Sacrosanct chamber in basicly every unittype (Sequitors, Casticators, Evocators, Celestar Ballista, Knight Incantor, Lord Arcanum) But I also have the feeling that an Fyreslayer Queen does have a little problem in the lore. We all know that Rulefathers often have about 12 childen because some will die with their actions getting recognised for becoming the next Runefather or opening their own lodge. Which literally would mean that the Auric Queen would literally be pregnant the entire time. Well most Lord Celestants are even called this when a Woman has this rank (Cassandora Stormforged for example. If she is mentioned by rank it is Lord Celestant, when mentioned by name it is Lady Cassadora). I think in the english text the gender is rearly mentioned in the rank. If I remember correctly I read the term "Liberatress" as a female form of "Liberator" when Shadespire came out. In german translations the gender is more often used (instead of "Prime" they often use "Primus" or "Prima" and I think I have to look it up again if for example the "Knight Venator" which is translated in the male for as "Venator Ritter" if in case of "Enyo the Sunwinger" "Venatorin Ritter" or "Venator Ritterin" was used but I think it was the first one because "Venator" could stand as a rank alone. In case of the Cities of Sigmar, with a little converting it is quite easy to get a female general or a entirely female army. One part of my projects is basicly an entire army based on Sisters of the Watch and Sisters of the Thorn, with heroes build from the same models.
  18. There are some female heroes when we look at Underworlds (only looking at the models that would be heroes) Morgwaeth The Bloodied (Hag Queen of the Daughters of Khaine) Fecula Flyblown (Sorceress of the Maggotkin of Nurgle) Ylthari (Thornwych of the Sylvaneth) Theddra Skull-scryer (Slaves to Darkness) Briarqueen (Nighthaunt) Not all male champions would be counted when we only count heroes because some are simple troup champions. Yeah, in the lore we have way more representation of women then with miniatures. We actually see the point of wearing the same armor with the Slaves to Darkness Start Collecting Box where at least one of the models has a female head, but wearing exactly the same armor as the rest.
  19. This was actually part of this thread: I would say, Battlelines as well as battalions are partly a medium of saying "an army of this faction / with this subfaction / with this general should be structured that way. This way it makes sense having a Melusai Army when having a Melusai General or having Corsairs as battleline if the Fleet Master is Battleline. It gives the army flavor (which wasn't the case in WHFB for example where every army had there fix set of Battleline units). If elite units can be used as battleline they often trait strength for numbers (you can have Grundstok Thunders as Battleline but 5 of them are more expensive than a 10 man Arcanaut Company. (so they have a disadventage when holding objectives) But there are also cases were lore isn't even buildable (for example the Extremis Chamber, or that you need a Lord Arcanum to make Sequitors Battleline, while in the Lore there is often a Knight Incantors Leading because a chamber has more Knight Incantors stan Lord Arcanums.) So it is not only a balance thing, but also a lore thing (more or less) giving an Army a theme. The advantage of the normal battleline units is that they are not restricted to a special allegiance (so chaos Warriors and Marauders can be battleline in Slaves to Darkness as well as in the four chaosgod armies or in the grand alliance as well).
  20. It wasn't removed that the Chaos Chapion of the Blood Warriors could have a Gorecleaver but it was removed that he get's an additional attack on the Gorecleaver (so he has no advantage when having one).
  21. Yeah, giving points to Artefacts wouldn't change much (except that instead of taking the strongest artefact no artefact would be taken to spend the points elsewhere). I have seen abilites costing points in 4. Edition 40k, where models could buy one or two abilites with adventages/disadventages. But most of the time only Traits that doesn't increase points per model were taken because most of the time the units were getting to expensive. Or when in WHFB shooting units only got musicians because it gave the unit a benefit while Standardbearers and Champion weren't worth taking (because the champion had an extra Attack, but the unit shouldn't get into close combat. I think, others think differently but I actually like that most of the time a hero can only get one artefact and one command trait. The thing is, most of the time people tried to get the full amount of artefact points into the units (which most in the times resulted in nearly unkillable characters dealing massive amounts of damage, basicly demigods). I mean did someone really use an artefact that gave a 6+ Aftersave when it costed 15 Points most of the time. It simply wasn't worth the points most of the time. I think it is seen more often because of flair in AoS because you can get it for free, but most likely would absolutly never be used when costing points because there would be other things that would have a better costefficiency. But would it help if you basicly wouldn't be able to get access to the content because your app isn't working at the moment? At least that is the problem in my case. I really hope their is an update soon and it will work again. So right now my books are the only way for me to check the rules and lore (the app is basicly only used to quickly look for something when my books are not available or I need the english translation for reference because my books are german). I understand the idea that device driven rules would be easier to update and would have less spreading between books, but only have online rules isn't a solution. It would only work when the rules are free to download, not with only an App where you maybe have to pay subscription and only getting the uptodate version or maybe nothing when the game gets discontinued. In the end maybe 9th age with their free pdfs would be more likely your cup of tea?
  22. In case of Standardbearers and Musicians, you could say that " appropriate citadel miniatures" means, that they have to be build like in the guide, but it could also simply mean "If you have a Bannerbearer that guy should have a banner, or a Misician should have a Drum, Horn or some other sort of Instrument on its model. You could think to put both on the same model (maybe as well as a special weapon), but there are a view points to think about (some from a gaming point some from a lore point: With the exception of the equipment the regular models have anything should be seen on the model if it is special (putting all on one model could mean that the model looks overloaded) You will lose multiple abilities at once when the model is slain (and there are abilities where the attacker can pick specific models. In the lore sometimes the banner is raised at the same time as for example the Horn is blown or Musician has to play a drumbeat with the Order of the units leader. Will the model be able to do all of this at the same time (+ maybe defending himself against enemies) if he has Banner and Instrument We do not know what GW is planning. Maybe rules will be more specific in the future or Musicians and Standardbearers get their own Weapon Profile (we allready have this in case of the Alarith Stoneguard because their Standardbearer doesn't use the two Handed weapon the other models in the unit use. So it is safer when specific models have the role instead of putting everything on one model. In case of the Boss I would not deny it completely. I mean, I could make sense to have 1-2 Unit Champion with a Special Weapon (A Liberator Prime with a Greatsword because he was using a two handed sword in his mortal life). It's only getting wierd when basicly all champions have a special weapon, because the stats are better thanks to +1 Attack of the Champion. GW had partly made changes in the last years so that some times the champion only gets a bonus on specific weapons, or has access to weapons that the rest of the unit doesn't
  23. Please no, I would have no problem if there would be Documents that could be downloaded and printed if needed, but not App only. Even without Corona, I coundn't play App only because my 5 year old smartphone can't deside if it likes to charge the battlery full or if it stops at some point and at least in my case the App is crashing again at the start since last update. You would be at the mercy of the app developer if you can play your next game or not (or if the App is shut down everything would be simple gone), what is not the case with Books. There are still players playing WHFB because they have a physical book, the app instead would be long dead. Maybe subfactions should really be like Cities of Sigmar or Hedonites of Slaanesh (so you wouldn't be forced to take one fix Command Trait and Artefact, instead having 3-6 Command Traits and Artefacts) on their own. That way we could have the flair of a specific subfaction and still more flexibility than the actual system.
  24. Right, I thought about Wrath & Rapture, which was before but forgot about the new Models that were released with the Battletome, but Slaanesh could have been a bigger Release when Mortals had a bigger part back then.
