I really hope that plastic TOW stuff is not where the AoS resources have been going. If there's going to be multiple plastic armies for an unrelated game while a lot of AoS factions have barely gotten more than a hero or two in the past four years I'm going to be quite disappointed.

It's a completely different team with different sculptors, artists and rules writers. If they are taking attention away from anything it  is Middle Earth and the other specialist games. At least one designer has definitely moved over from middle earth to the Old World project and Andy Hoare has been splitting his time between this and Necrmunda.

BY LONG LOST NEHEKHARA AND MYSTERIOUS ARABY I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!!! Alhamdulillah my dreams and prayers have been answered! I honesty didn't think Tomb Kings would be getting new models immediately with TOW, but this? This is beautiful.... Oh god I need to start saving up cash, the TK fans are gonna preorder everything GW has when this drops.

I still think we might see dual-purpose kits for some of the TOW factions and AOS Dawnbringer Crusades. Generic bodies with different bits and weapons for each faction. Time will tell, but the aligning of the releases in a two-year window is of interest.  I am sure they will be interoperable.

Horus Heresy (the books) are slowly grinding towards completion as far as I'm aware, and right now the HH team seems to be sprinting to get out as many plastic replacements of resin models as they reasonably can. I can see a future where HH gets rotated out of focus as a largely complete model line while Forge World shifts their attention to TOW.

I don't think that will quite work. Judging from the arm sculpts, TOW human units will be 28mm heroic scale rather than the 32mm true(ish) scale that AoS uses.

And there are some people working on Horus Heresy. At least, one book is still in the pipleline with various groups of testers and developers.

I don't think the more "medieval Europe x slightly Victorian x Empire" aesthetic would be really fitting for TOW, especially considering how plain these Bretonnian bits are compared to the more over the top CoS ones.

Also, these new TOW bits seem curiously already spliced up for manufacturing (they even have guiding tabs for assembly)...
Maybe this could be this year's end of Fall/December big box like Blackstone Fortress and Necromunda Dark Uprising were a few years back? But then the Cities army set would either have to be mid-late Summer (probably reserved for separate Tyranid and SM releases and FEC) or September-October. I'm interested in seeing how and when these'll get released.

(And if Cities were for 4th Edition we wouldn't have gotten the teaser for them almost a year ago. Maybe we could see something more concrete at Warhammer Fest for the one year anniversary 😛)

Tk were always more interesting IMHO... but in 6e, from what i recall, they needed absolute understanding to get them to work well. you wouldnt be able to 'luck one out' really.  I once saw a 3k tourney list with settra and it was a thing of beauty. chariots moving all over the place, crashing into enemy units.  stunning to watch compared to a dumb dino player like me.  Lizardmen move forward....rawr :D

@Marcvs This is a huge deal for Khorne, who had almost no way  (only answer was Unfettered Fury command ability) of handling shooting/magic heavy matchups. This is an answer to that and a massive deal.

Also, there is a super strong hint that the army is being redesigned. Look at the last sentence written about the Blood Tithe reward:

"The Blood God has given his followers special permission to use this as many times as they want – if enough blood is shed to earn it."

Blood Tithe rewards never added extra attacks. Extra attack sources were always tied to an aura on a unit, up to 3: Bloodsecrator, Wrathmongers, and Aspiring Deathbringer.

oh absolutely, I am not saying it's not very good, just feels weird for the army "feeling"

None of us believed the Brets vs Tomb Kings rumor because it absolutely screamed of wishlisting. Yet here we are . . .

I'm surprised that GW went with two faction that - despite their devoted following - purportedly sold rather poorly.

That said, it's a good move if they want to distance themselves from AoS. None of our factions are comparable to the Brets, and while OBR clearly draws inspiration from TK, there is a huge aesthetic difference between the two factions.

In other news, the BoK rules preview is promising. The ward save and mortal wound abilities both seem relatively restrained without being useless, which I approve of. The extra attack ability could be huge, but I'm guessing it's one of the more expensive Blood Tithe abilities.

They also promised to preview Slaanesh rules tomorrow. Here's hoping they do a good job this time.

So I'm guessing the rumours of a bretonnia Vs Tomb Kings starter are true. I'm ok with this as it has the least overlap with AoS. That said the Bretonnian previews in particular sum up at lot of my problems with this project. Those helmets sure do look exactly like the old ones with not much extra detail. images(2).jpeg.77eba2d1a1f0b1724d6ccb378e35ee88.jpeg

The swords look like swords and nothing more. The Tomb king stuff is better with some pretty cool weapons. I'm still waiting for the project to wow me. I was a Warhammer fantasy fan back in the day. I even had a small Bretonnian army but I feel like the creative spark is missing from what we've seen so far.

What is there to improve upon when you already have perfection 😉

Edit: There was a lot to improve upon in the case of tomb kings and the design of those renders is  s t u n n i n g! Mwah!

Also - "The swords look like swords and nothing more." Thank. God.
