The Rumour Thread

It's not about a full Fantasy army that was divided in to 3 or 4 armies and then become united again.

It's how AoS micro-armies build their own lore, design and all the cool stuff to be different enough from their previous (if any) incarnations.

We already have an example with Ironjawz. They were the first Orc Boyz for AoS, and you expected to see more things about them: more lore, more named characters, more miniatures (more cavalry, new monsters, characters, specialist units, etc...), more bestiary, more Ironjawz sub-themes,... A LOT MORE.  And I'm not talking about rules.

I expected that after the shift from 1.0 small armies to bigger ones with 2.0 (Old Fantasy armies being united again and Lumineth 2d wave). Instead, we had a souped army without any new kits for named characters, new miniatures, minimum lore and no new sub-themes.

What I expect from KOs?

A lot of new sub-themes (pirates, big game hunters, alchemists, smugglers, etc...), assaulting KO units , new "blackbeard" admiral character from Barak-Mhornar, new ships, a submarine or a new type of vehicle, "swashbucklers" (offensive melee unit) and "copperheads" (defensive melee unit), KOs terrain sets (Zonbecks), Black marines, Lieutenant-like hero (Arkanaut Captain), air mines, new race that only works for KOs (something like vespid from T'au, even a new type of greenskinz to make it clear that KOs are not just Fantasy dwarfs with ships could do the job), "Conquistador" dwarfs assaulting new islands and continents, etc.

I can go on and go on, but the whole thing is that I'm not sure that a souped army-book will bring anything relevant to my KOs that is not "more rules".

I really hope to be wrong.

Prefect, Fully agree.

Kinda been having a feeling over the last 24hrs that what if the destruction side of "Dominion" is Kruel Boyz AND silent ones AND Fimir

What is the Hobgoblins have subjected a load of races into slave cast that fight for them? So we end up with a handful of Hobgoblin units, mainly heroes and a few units, but then we get this monster mix army of enslaved races fighting under the control of the hobgoblins.

*grumbles in Dawi Zharr language* Hobgoblins can only be slaves not masters *grumble*...

I think the beastmen tome refers to him as a minor chaos deity? A big plastic centrepiece kit for something like an 'Avatar of Morghur' with some sort of beastmen range update would be a pretty obvious slam dunk for GW.

Really interesting, I don't know much about Beastmen so correct me if I'm wrong, but

  Hide contents

Is this the first time they're saying humans can mutate into them and that they can turn others into Beastmen?

Yes, so in the Beasts of Chaos tome, Morghur, who was basically THE named character for BoC in Fantasy, is now a Chaos "entity" after the Old World was destroyed. That's what the tome describes him as. Not a deity, it says "entity". Chaos Spawn, in general, are his creations and he is the father of mutations. His followers, the Gavespawn, wish to break down the barriers between the mortal realms and the Realm of Chaos, thereby creating a unified primordial soup of pure anarchy.

Also in fantasy, yes, humans could turn into beastmen. This is true in AoS as well. The tome states that the corrupting Chaos energy emanating from their Herdstones cause the nearby life to start devolving and mutating in addition to the Herdstone itself creating new Beastmen from those energies as blood and sacrifices are offered to it and it becomes a conduit for the Realm of Chaos. The tome also offers a few potential origins for the BoC in general in the mortal realms. One of which being that they were all once humans whose depravities and savagery saw them eventually devolve into Beasts of Chaos and were the ones first responsible for attracting the attention of the Chaos Gods to the mortal realms long before the time of Sigmar. So, yes, in AoS it seems they can mutate others into Beastmen.

That's some of the reasons why they should remain Chaos and not Destruction on an unrelated note. I think some people (not all of course) that want them to be Destruction just don't know their lore lol.

What if the new breed of evil is destruction units in general and each destruction faction is getting something new. We know Kragnos can take any destruction units? Maybe the rumored hobgobs are just one unit being released and the dominion box will have a destruction army that will go oh so well with your new Kragnos model? Just thinking of possibilities here.

Too bad

it is never meant to be Beastgrave though...

I know the mortal realms are huge and all but it’s a little clunky for GW to be like “no, no, I mean the other massive sentient monster-mountain with an ancient power entombed in its heart”.

To be honest no hint about Kragnos specified something that could lead to think that beastgrave was his prison, as his mountain was never said it was "alive" unlike beastgrave (If i'm not wrong).

Sure, but to be fair: it's still two deities trapped inside a great mountain, one of the two mountains being called "beastgrave" and the other being released in the realm of Ghur AKA of beasts letting out a pretty beastly fellow. It's a puzzling coincidence to say the least.

To be honest there’s not many places where geological features are sentient and in Ghur, every mountain has its own mind.

Beastgrave was described as a demigod of some sort itself not a prison of a demigod, and the Silent People were actually able to leave periodically from the amber prison/ resting place. While there are monsters still imprisoned and some just freed, it was never actually mentioned as the resting place of something else than the silent people

In Hamilcar Bear Eater there is a mention of an Ogor Frostlord on a gigantic bear, obviously just something written for the novel and bears are more synonymous with Kislev but I loved seeing something other than a Stonehorn, Thundertusk, Mournfang mount for BCR and would love to see more beasts added now that Ghur is in the spotlight.

Where's mentioned the other god trapped under a mountain?

I don't  remember or i lost some passages.

Still i don't  remember also beastgrave called a prison for some kind of force, instead it seemed that was the mountain itself the threat.

Now that you mention it, bears are one of the most emblematic animals present in high fantasy that are completely missing from AoS in model form.

Interesting the hodgepodge mash of greenskins though.

We already know there are 3 icons but here's seems to imply they are not only "morruk" andhobgobs...

In a frame there's something similar to a grots in the background with a "strange weapon".

And you know who had a hodgepodge of greenskins as slaves? The Dawi Zharr! See, Chaos Duardin confirmed! Right?

...right?

...r-right?

Heres hoping they show up for Mawtribes or even Sylvaneth in some form.

That's the best story in a while!! I loved it, really hope it bodes well for BOC in 3.0 they deserve the spotlight.

Agree, this and the Malerion story have been my favourites so far.  Wonder if the release of life magic will trigger a reaction from the Shadowgave

While I think it’s perfectly reasonable for everyone (myself included) to immediately associate Kragnos’ prison with Beastgrave from the limited teases we were presented with at the time, I’ll also point out that sentient geographical features aren’t exactly “rare” in the various narratives of the mortal realms. Both of the Lumineth novels and BR:Teclis feature (different and unrelated) living mountains, and the land masses of both Ghur and Ghyran are described as being alive in the core book if I remember correctly. Looking back at it now, it almost feels silly to have assumed that the relatively generic phrase “living mountain” referred to that one mountain we already knew about...

“So, what, you think all us mountains look alike??” -Avalenor, probably.

I don't mean atheist as not believing in gods, I mean that as not serving them.

Words have meaning, though. Atheists, the fine and intelligent folks they are, do not believe in gods. It's not a question of seeing they exist but not serving them. It's about knowing they don't exist.

Say goodbye to 2.0 friends! 😦

This has possibly been covered but the French Canadian version of Storm Strike is no longer available online. The English version of Soul Wars is currently listed as temporarily out of stock but not gone.
