Dragon

Tomb king

40 spearmen

32 archers

16 light/heavy cavalry

3 chariots

The unit next to the Dragon seems like a new infantry unit. Check the skeleton leg poses and shield designs. My eyes might be playing tricks, but seems like it to me!

My guess for the bretonnian box

New lord on pegasus

16 knights of the realm

20 new knights on foot

3 pegasus knights

40 peasants

Also guessing around the £150 - £175 mark

Think they will use the old 4 reveals in the past reveal. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2023/10/14/warhammer-day-preview-the-kingdom-of-bretonnia-revealed/

Hope I am wrong, but I don't think they will put the new knights in that kit.

Why not? The new dragon is in the tomb king box.

Looks pretty clear to me that the large leader kit is being put in with a bunch of older kits to sweeten the box-set deal. Elite kits (such as foot knights and rumoured mummies) will be sold on their own as people will potentially buy multiple of those. It's pretty straightforward profit maximisation.

The foot knights/mummies would also be sold to people with existing armies and to those who want to use the figures for other things. Putting either in a launch box decreases the chance of ROI.

Which is fine, but let it herald a complete overhaul of the faction. People have been calling for it for long enough and a new edition would be a perfect moment for it.

I disagree. As long as factions like Beastmen, Skaven, Ogors and Malerion haven't received a decent amount of new minis, it really isn't fine for them to redo "old" Stormcast models (which are like a decade younger than the minis of those factions), especially because they got wave after wave of new stuff meanwhile anyways. I'd also argue against it if they redid Tzeentch minis.

I'm not against them giving SCE new toys at all (they or heck, even Lumineth can have the most kits for all I care) but it sucks that other forces still got basically nothing and here we are with another huge SCE wave. It's not like SCE amount to waaay over 50% of sales for AOS like Space Marines do...and while the latest SCE were all cool releases, I still would prefer something else. I really don't have anything against them per se.

Edit: I do agree with your second point however - I hope they will trim the SCE lineup and give them a great battletome!

Im happy for our @Twisted Firaun to be recieving units from LONG LOST NEHE...you get the picture!! But personally for me this is ridiculous.

How much are they going to charge for sculpts over 2 decades old? Sculpts that are frankly, terrible.

The Old World to me is just GW looking to make a quick buck off of nostalgia.

I am totally there with you, but I still have some faith that being a box full of old minis would make it a bit affordable for those that would like to buy them.

To be fair I wouldn't call it 'nostalgia' when people have been asking GW to bring back Fantasy for seven years.

My take is they realised there is a market for rank-and-flank games they left the door open for other companies to fill (Kings of War, Conquest, etc) and recognised it was a blindspot they should be filling themselves, since GW know most people are always going to stick with their offerings unless there's literally no option there.

In terms of the lack of models, I imagine if TOW is a decent success they'll eventually start putting out updated sculpts. Horus Heresy got new Mark III only a year after second edition dropped, despite being a relatively modern sculpt (younger than AoS even).

This!

It's giving people what they want, what they've been asking for since the end of 8th Ed warhammer.

I love AoS, it's a great game with some of the best models ever made by GW.

But warhammer fantasy was my first love in wargaming when I first started over 30 years ago and I've never stopped collecting, painting and playing even when The End Times happened.

I know there are many people like me and there will be many who will come back into the fold.

I can't wait to get my hands on the new rules so I can plan out new armies, I'm in the middle of building a dark elf army and have plans for a night goblin one.

There's an interview here with Alan Merrett where he talks about Fantasy ending etc:

On of the points he makes is that WHFB was a tent pole franchise for GW, which meant that it had to be kept going or die, whereas specialist games (as The Old World is) can be put on hold and returned to later if they think that the market has become saturated.

As an aside, he also voices surprise that they've chosen Bretonnia as the focus for The old World, as sales for the normal human factions (including the Empire apparently) were always disappointing.

Not releasing a new Bretonnian model for twelve years (by 2015) almost certainly did their sales no favours.

I think End Times taught GW a very important lesson in how important it is to have new product for people to buy into and continue to expand an army, something the plastification of SoB likely further reinforced.

That aside, Tomb Kings and Bretonnians being the initial posterboys is probably a knowing nod to those being the two armies that were outright squatted by AoS.

BY LONG LOST NEHEKHARA THE TOMB KINGS ARE AWAKENING FROM THEIR SLUMBER!!!! If the box art is already leaking does that mean we might see them sometime in late January/Early February?!?! I’m excited, is anybody else excited?!

They are so bad that even five years ago I opted to put them all on Nighthaunt horses instead of building them straight.

And five years ago I still thought Reaper Bones stuff looked pretty good.

I’m honestly just not gonna run any of the sixth edition sculpts barring maybe the archers, the new soulblight stuff is good enough for my hordes of chaff.

@KingBrodd this is a great day! Not just for me, but for @Neil Arthur Hotep, @Sception, @TristanGray, @The Brotherhood of Necros, and even @Mengel Miniatures! I know it’s nostalgia bait, but since I’ve been suffering eBay prices for a hobby I seemingly got into too late for my favorite faction, I’ll gladly fall into the trap.

Ha, interesting that the human factions don't sell so well. I would expect the opposite.

Never quite understood why High Elves were such big sellers. Not that they were bad or anything, they had some classic Jes Goodwin fleshed out background and design, the widespread attraction just isn’t as obvious to me as for Warriors of Chaos, the big armoured easy-to-paint dudes. I guess folks really like their classic elves?

Their rules were frequently quite good too. Skaven were supposed to be a pretty big seller as well and they certainly had powerful rulesets.

"Elves were really cool in Lord of the Rings" I think was the crux of it.

Not all surprised at that really, human faces and skin are very tricky to paint as a beginner. At least with chaos and elves you have a lot of helms and masks. Bretonnia and TK are the focus though because they suffered most from the jump to AOS (losing their whole army), so people have been asking for them for years.
