So does the warcry book tell you everything you need to play the game with one of these double strength AoS boxes, or do you still need to get the warcry set for the cardsvand tokens, even id yiu already get the warbands for use in AoS? I've held off jumping into warcry, but would still like to at some point, so its hard to know whether these new sets would be useful in that respect.

The warcry book does not contain the stat blocks or ability tables for any of the war bands, you would still need to pick up one of the warcry branded warband boxes to get those cards in order to play.

You know if we ever get some new freeguild models, I hope we get some actual heavy Infantry.

Greatswords with helms are decently armoured (demicuirass), but I would like to have some dudes armoured to the level of the Generals on Griffin or Demigryphs. Preferably with pollaxes, to be proper knights on foot.

EDIT: Yes, this is wishlisting. Sorry for that.

The FW Marienburg Gunners and Sword Infantry men look(ed) amazing.

Yes, and they would have been a lot better if they actually were complete. Not including any blades in Manann's blades was, well, silly. Using Greatswords for them is cheaper, and they have more single handed weapons in the set.

The Ironsides were armoured gunners, but there was no such thing in the warscroll, and having gunners with better armour than the Guard save at 6+ is a bit silly. Also, they did not include arms for this set.

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere else, but according to our local importer the Warcry double-band boxes are a limited release. I'm not even sure what it means exactly, and I have no further information.

I suspect they have a limited amount of boxes at the moment, but since it's just doubling of sprues: if people want it, it's easy to get more.

Wait until the start collecting box goes out of stock two minutes after pre orders are up. People don't even know the meaning of disappointing yet. The start collecting and the warcry warbamd are a limited release. One and done. No new chaos warrior box to come after either so it's a real kick in the face to fans. AGAIN. why can't they stock product anymore?

The Start Collecting box is not marked as limited (according to the list I'm looking at). They might run out of stock pretty fast, but they will likely print more of them.

Start Collecting sets aren't limited production, though we might well run GW out of stock they will make more and restock them. GW has been underproducing for a while - they've one factory structure that has limited power due to local power grid issues and they've still not yet brought their brand new factory online (I think its going online any time now). They've also increased a lot of their warehousing so that they can produce and store more stock, esp for overseas.

Basically when 8th edition 40K and AoS 2.0 got going and all those specialist games too - GW got a  HUGE boost in sales which has run them far beyond what they were stocking for before. It's why they had to build a brand new factory (and buy land - both of which are expensive in the UK).

The duel army boxes and things like the sisters of battle ARE limited production, however barring a very few items, they are retail products so the stock in them does go on general sale later. The Sisters of Battle content "is" unique in that its monopose build options and the codex is a limited edition (which is nothing new); however I'd wager we'll see some/all of those Sisters of Battle monopose reappear in one or two start collecting sets for Sisters next year. Along with a big release of all the multi-build options of those models and more.

GW limited production for models is typically just limited discount bundles - like the duel army sets and the Christmas Battleforces. The only reason there's some contention is that GW takes a random amount of time to release the new models to market.

Are you talking about the Warcry core book or the new tome? I thought the whole point of the tome was to replace the cards, especially since the cards are out of print for the AoS factions

Oh, the core book, sorry.  The new book I dont know for sure, reprinted stats for the non-chaos factions I think they've mentioned? I'd expect the stats for the chaos bands to remain bundled with the models.

Preview article for the start collecting box is up. Disappointingly no rule tidbits, but one interesting comment:

"These kits won’t be replacing anything that’s currently in the range, meaning if you like the original models, good news – you’ll be able to keep using them!"

I could be wrong, but it's really sounding like they're not doing a full resculpt after all, they're just releasing the monopose from the start collecting and leaving all the old kits as is. I'm not overly disappointed because I've always liked the old chaos warriors and knights, but I know some people were really hoping for a full resculpt.

Huh, that's a new approach.

I'm not as sensitive about monopose as some people, so if they did a similar Start Collecting Box for, say, Seraphon...How many would I buy, I wonder? Probably at least two, but maybe not more than that.

The article is named "kit focus" so there also should be a "rules focus" coming along the way.

But the explicit statement that the current knights (okay-ish) and warriors (too rank&fily for AOS) are staying are really driving me mad : I mean come on GW, why bother with new kits that will made your existing range totally out of place if they are to be stuck in the same poses and the same box forever ???

Really unhappy with this news !!!

At least there is a new Spire Tyrants models (with shield and horned helmet) previewed :D

The problem for me is not the mono pose design (ETB and all is great thing), it's the fact they'll keep the old kits in the range

Imagine if they kept the old Chaos Space Marines squad kits alongside the new ones from Shadowspear ?

It's the same problem here. 😡

Really, there is more and more a general range disparity in both 40k and AOS that does not look good at all on the battlefield.

I hope it will be solved until The Old World arrives.

Strange approach for GW, that said I wonder if its a case of casual writing. You could interpret both that the original models remain up for sale from GW; or that the original models remain in-use as normal and that these are just new sculpts. Either way it sounds like a new stand alone knights and warriors kit is a fair ways off yet.

I’m sorry if I’m Draxing here, but where is that model previewed?

It may be a similar release strech like with shadowspear, having thoose kits in multipart to come at a later date so they can sell off old stock of warriors and knights before the release somewhere later 2020. I assume they don´t want to upset people who bought the battleforce last year, or started in general a S2D army somewhere in the near past

edit: Btw, Chosen are about to stay

It's a bit more complicated than that, the old Chaos Warrior/Knight kits have weapon options and such that the SC box doesn't.  Which is probably the main reason they didn't discontinue the old kits if there isn't a full multipart replacement in the wings.

Probably does mean that the STD release isn't going to continue into January either way. The new Warcry monsters they previewed will probably have rules in the tome but get released under the Warcry label initially.

I'm also starting to wonder, given that we've seen no unit squatting Post-CoS, if GW thought the backlash from that was bad enough to make them a bit more reserved about removing old models without replacement.
