The Rumour Thread

Again, I get that balance on battalions needed to happen, but a HUGE number of my purchases over the years have been influenced by battalions.  I made those purchases in the knowledge that the battalions (and the units themselves of course) could change, so I'm not opposed to change necessarily.. I'm just concerned that a lot of the things that currently make lists work at all are based in the battalions and it's hard to imagine how certain armies will function without them.

This part I can definitely see a concern with. I'm still narrowing down what army to play, but a lot of what I like (Cavalry, Heroes, Monsters) tends to lend themselves to small, elite lists. So as I was getting down to the nitty-gritty I spent a lot of time looking at battalions:

-Seraphon are slow(ish)? Going Thunder Lizard with a Firelance and a Thunderquake templehost helps mitigate that.
-Blood Knight heavy list might not make it downfield? Go with Crimson Keep for some free deepstrike and more reliable hits.
-STD cavalry list light on bodies? Grab Ruinbringer for some extra damage on the charge.

Also, I'll admit as a bit of a cheap-ass I like being able to eat up some points with the battalion.

I strongly hate the charge reaction rules. The game doesn’t need to give players more reasons to stand out of melee. They were supossed to nerf shooting, not close combat...

I'd agree, by the looks of it those particular changes seem like a significant buff to shooting units. Big units of archers could easily put down charging monsters or heroes, and the ability to fall back could easily mean key melee units are regularly denied the ability to charge and then shot to death point blank on the next turn. It's the biggest reason that I'm hesitant on the status of the rumors right now, if they're all accurate then there have to be some more extremely significant changes coming to balance this all out.

I did have one thought on the battalions though. It might signal a stronger push from GW to encourage the Narrative style. If they drop battalions from Matched Play but keep them alive in Narrative they've baked in a massive incentive for players to shift over to Narrative style gaming. They can then hyper tune matched play for events and tournaments more freely (ex. introducing the secondary/tertiary objectives mentioned in the video). I don't... hate the idea, but I am worried about the polarization it could cause. There are significant consequences of basically forcing pick up games to become Narrative and/or having whole groups bound to a generic hyper tournament focused rule set for their regular gaming.

Is there a reason people are taking any stock in this "leak" video? The Youtube channel only has five videos going back a few weeks. Is the dude some famous leaker I've never heard of? I just don't see where people are digging their feet into it.

I want someone to tell me why I should believe any of it, because I really like what he's describing for 3.0.

Gore Pilgrims is a huge boon to my mortals based Khorne.
I'll feel super silly owning 5 bloodthirsters for Tyrants of Blood without them.

I'm right there with you.  As soon as we finished watching that video, my husband turned to me and said "Well, it's a good thing you don't have that third Lord of Change yet."  But I do have 3 Terrorgheists and a lot of other models that I have bought to play in my favorite battalions.

And on that note, GW has been marketing and selling the Broken Realms battalion boxes and soon none of those battalions will be legal for matched play?

Fyreslayers wouldnt fit at all into Dispossessed. They are much more like KO in the sense that they are a far off shot of what 'traditional' dwarfs are. People need to stop roping them into the old Slayers. They are vastly, vastly different then the old Slayers. They share a partial name and mohawks. Thats it.

If anything Fyreslayers are more related to Bonesplitterz because they are super religious zealots on a race wide crusade to piece together their fallen god.

Maybe at some point there will be a full merged dwarf book but they would still keep their separate lore.

That's why I like the Orruk Warclans tome idea. Bonesplitterz and Ironjawz are treated are two seperate armies in the same Battletome each with their own lore, with the "Big Waaagh" being a third option to bring both. Most Orruk lore treats them as two distinct cultures that sometimes work together (just like Duardin do).

We cannot see the full picture yet. An imporved Look Out Sir, CAs that are strictly anti-shoot and other shooting nerfs (like one for shooting more than half your range) may exist. Also, a bonus to the units that charge like an innate +1 to something, or even special CAs aimed to buff units that charge may be present.

I'm a fan of battalions going in exchange for generic build your own styled ones. I've often found them too limiting. I believe this will help the game become more strategic imo.

I definitely like that direction. With the sheer game warping power of them (Artifact, CP, Turn order manipulation) they have created far too much of a "Haves and Have nots" situation.

When some books don't have any worth considering and others have several consisting of the armies strongest units with powerful rules added for good measure it's not good for the game.

They could still do this without combining them. Just pull a Yinari like in 40K,

if you merge you have to compete with model releases too since every cycle of the tome release only one of those subfac get the release and two would just lavish

every time a KO tome get refresh, they may get a chance to get KO model

a mix tome, it possible only one of the three will get anything

A lot of those sound pretty good to me. I would bet that if they remove battalions each battle tome will add some back.

It will be interesting to see if they actually fix the problems or if they continue to show that they are not aware of them

which cannot happen as long as there is no QC within books.  Have you seen the new Gardus warscroll? Who wrote that?

They clearly need to hire a specialist who can exclusively write rules for combat-focused foot heroes.

Where were these big model previews we were supposed to get this week? The Slaanesh ones were the usual Monday preview, so was it really just the one Ork boy?

I’m hoping there’s more to come, but tbh I imagine if there is they’ll be either tomorrow or most likely Sunday to make up for the no next weeks post they usually do
