    The Hag!

    By Eevika

The Troggoth Hag is definitely a piece I believe every Troggoth army needs. It's amazing as a model and amazing on the table. I rarely do such detailed eyes and faces but when working on a model that is the centrepiece of your army you want to spend some extra time just to make it special. This is surely the best work I have ever done on a models face and I think there is just a lot of character and emotion on the model.  My smaller Troggoths are just green and blue but for t

Battle Report: Culture Shock

Battleplan: Acquisition (from the Kharadron Overlords Battletome) Match-up: Order vs. Legion of Azorgh On the burning plains of Aqshy, Hazim the Blooded and his loyal Fireglaives approached an ancient Zharr Goroth ruin.  He and his Daemonsmith, Dray the Alchemist, had been searching the ruins of an old empire for weeks, seeking enchanted artefacts and other treasures.  So far, they had turned up only a few... an enchanted weapon that Hazim had claimed for himself, and a sacred duardin rel

Arkanaut Progress

Arkanauts almost there, just got to finish the basing. Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out how to do the Endrinriggers. I don't want to do them all metallic so will be trying for dark blue armour. Just gotta figure out the balance.

A Strange, New Land

The First of Many Steps:   Never before had the confident king breathed the cold, sharp air in Chamon, and it’s harsh nature tore at his lungs. Somewhere deep in his heart it tasted familiar, and yet the contrast was uncomfortable nonetheless. It unsettled Rungi, the way his senses could not simply appreciate the fresh air, but instead were perplexed by its ambiguous and jarring nature. Karugromthi lumbered forward, glittering puffs of steaming breath rising from his nostrils, his ride

The Assassin

So I decided to finish up one of the heroes of the army and there really isn't much else to say. This guy (below) was easy to pile into an afternoon. Everything is neatly divided on the model and the cape has lots of flats which allows for easy blending (which I definitely still need to practice). Further, I'll admit the lighting is a little off but I was trying a sharp contrast - if he was leaping out of the darkness and into the light. I've also finished up some sisters of silence, but I'

The stalker

As the path crossed a small clearing, Harek stopped and turned to look behind him. The forest was quiet. Just the dripping tune of a hidden creek down in the depth of the valley, and up in the peaks, the wind howling. Yet he felt watched. Maybe the darkness was getting to him. Barely any light passed through the thick canopy of the giant pines. was something moving behind that tree? Just a bark-snail leeching off a rotten stump... with slightly unsteady hands he made the sign of the travell

Warhammer Achievements Table 3 - Nurgles Garden (part 2)

The Polluted Pools These are made from the old 40K craters. I picked a set up and they were cheap, but they were a bit broken up. Before I could do anything I had to fix the holes and clean up the dodgy centres. I did this by replacing a lot of the areas with bark and then filling in all the the remaining areas with the air drying clay (I'm becoming a fan of the stuff over filler for different things). Once this was done I sanded the edges and based them onto some hardboard to make them mor

Warhammer Achievements Table 3 - Nurgles Garden

My Nurgle table for Warhammer Achievements is coming along nicely. So far I have done some large slimy line of sight blocking terrain, a polluted Shimmerfalls, some Fetid Swamps, and a floating Island. All that is left is a diseased river which is currently under construction.  The Bloated Growths I used expanding foam to make these, which makes for very quick terrain. I laid out a large sheet of grease proof paper and then squirted an entire can into piles of various sizes. I then lef

House Reike-Woerlitz

A change- not a brother or sister of the Death Watch, but a family of Freeguild. This is the chronicle of their most ancient history- in time, they will reappear in other stories. ------ Long ago- before the Gates of Heaven were shut, before the Gods were disunited, before the taint of Chaos reappeared in the world, deep in the Age of Myth when the world still lay verdant and untrampled, there were two men. One, Lars of the Duns, was a refugee from far Arcadia, fleeing political v

Tree Revenant example

More Sylvaneth from my army today, here's one of the Tree Revenants up close. After Allarielle this was one of the first models I painted, and was keen to use them to try to bridge the wood vs flesh themes. Allarielle (and maybe Drycha I guess) are the only other models with the opportunity for flesh tones, and while GW's scheme make the Revs ethereal, I wanted something that would tie in with Allarielle's flesh tones. It was also the first model that I established the green tones - a recip

Age of Sigmar : A Two Year Perspective

730 days, three armies, 756 models painted, countless games played.  No matter how you define time with your Hobby it is a fact that we have had Age of Sigmar for two years now and what has those past few years looked like for all of us in The Mortal Realms?  I hope to share my view on the past few years and my hopes for the following year to come in today's post. In order to grasp where we are now, we need to look back at where this all began.  The ending of a world.  I won't go into the full

The beginning

Hi guys, long lurker here but pretty new in AoS in general. My first real army was Ironjawz, but after quite some games and 2 tournaments, i see that actually, a full IJ isn't really effective in tournament (an expensive and quite useless shaman, no ranged, and melee sucks in general). So after some readings and as i like greenskins, i decided to build a full Bonesplitterz army for some reasons. First, no one plays them in Paris (oh yeah, i lie, a guy is playing them, but he doesn

Nico takes on Heat 3

So I was fortunate enough to snap up a last minute ticket to Heat 3. As my DoT are about 1/3 painted (and I hadn't then settled on a list - I have now) and my KO were just a collection of unopened boxes - I was going to have to take an army for the second time to an event. I thought about taking a Fyreslayer plus Stormcast combo, but the news that Fyreslayers would be getting an allegiance pack made me pause. Instead I dug out my Skaven for Archaon's Furry Friends. After some practice games

Dryad - recipe and zenithal lighting

Moving away from the WIP stuff, to something finished a couple of weeks ago. Across the Sylvaneth force I've tried to maintain some consistency, taking the lead from Allarielle. So the Tree Revenant banner is blue/purple, or purple/blue, because those are Allarielle's dress and soul amphora shades. For the tree-based stuff (Revenants' lower body, dryads, K hunters, treeman, Drycha) I also wanted a consistent recipe and approach. I also wanted to experiment with zenithal lighting to see if i

Expanding the Brayherd Faction

Inspired a bit by @HobbyHammers 'This is how I brayherd' blog, I started thinking about my old Beastmen army, as by the looks of things, I could probably make a pretty convincing AoS army with them. This inevitably led me to start thinking, what would I do to expand the Brayherd faction into a fully fleshed out and meaty faction. What would it take to get these guys status to be 'back' And I think, there's not actually a huge amount of work that needs to be done! So let's get the

Sylvaneth: Treeman Ancient's Autumn beard test

A little update - I extended the same colour range to the beard stuff around his face. Not sure if I'll keep it all like this when I'm done, but nice to see the tones extended out over a longer space. Yet to do any detail, or a wash/highlight pass, but I really want the colours to stand out against the browns of the wood. I've used green-yellow range in other models, but I'm hoping this will bring more variety.

Sylvaneth: Treeman Ancient's Autumn leaves

To kick things off - my current army (almost finished) is Sylvaneth. I started off with Allarielle and followed Duncan's video, but from then on I followed my own path. I'll go through my paint lists and post a few models in due course, but a quick snippet to start with: While the Dryads and Treeman leaves are nice and spring-fresh in shades of green to yellow, I wanted to mark out the Ancient as, well... older. So I decided to give him more autumnal colours by way of contrast. So in a spar

Weekly Hobby Update : 7-5-17

Hey Everyone!  The past few days for me have been full of Games of 40k, Age of Sigmar, and Skirmish.  On top of that, I managed to get some models primed and ready to begin painting.  Let us not forget that yesterday was The Release Anniversary of Age of Sigmar and if you're over in the States it was Independence day! Another Year in and going strong! Got a few games of #New40k in at the club meetup on Saturday and loving it A friend who took a break when Age of Sigmar dropped got h

Skink Casting Transformation of Kadon

HI Guys here comes another project I really enjoyed working at. For this one I stated playing with the idea of having a skink priest that looked a little more savage so that it was my lore of beast caster in 8th edition. to make it clear that he was a beast caster I wanted to make some conversion so that he was casting the number 6 spell. Transformation of Kadon, in which the caster becomes your choice of monster. I wanted him to look like the spell was just beginning to cast, but

Southern Impact Incoming

So the next tournament is coming up swiftly for my local scene. This time, it's one called Southern Impact, and tradionally it is the larger warhammer fantasy tournament the club runs. This year will be no exception, while Gobbocon was a smaller 1200 points, this time we'll be going full sized matched play armies at 2000 points. This does bring some interesting challenges though. It's a one day tournament, so at 2000 points we can only fit 3 games into the schedule for the day, this may mak

The Bleakswords

Figuring that every army needs its battleline I decided to finish off a unit of bleakswords. These guys are nice and quick to paint. Really fun to smash out. If anyone is looking for a quick unit to work on between projects then I would definitely recommend considering these guys. I also tried taking Old Stonebeard's advice and turned down the lighting a bit to give the photos a more natural feel. I think it's helped slightly but I'm fairly limited in what I can do in my current location. I
