  1. It's that day again, whatch'all up to? Currently working through some Deepkin bits, a bit scattershot but it'll all come together in the end (I hope!).
  2. Quick shout-out for how easy it is to paint eels quickly using coloured primer sprays as a base, all-over Zandri Dust and then a top-down colour of your choice, e.g. Macragge Blue in this case. (Note spraying down from above can be a bad angle to tilt the can at, so what worked best for me was tacking them onto the edge of some balsa and holding them vertically so the can could be held upright and sprayed horizontally - note also it's better to tack 'em onto the edge of something as you don't get backspray onto the underside, as can happen when they're stuck to a broader base.)
  3. Nice! Swap the Soulscryer and 2x10 Thralls for a Leviadon and you get the exact list I'm painting up right now! ? Main reason being that it's quicker to paint one big model than many little ones... I hope! I haven't played enough to comment generally, but I included the Tidecaster to have at least have some magic presence (unbind/dispel when you really need it, and I like her spell), to have an extra hero both for command point influence and certain objective games, and to maybe get maybe one ritual off per game with a bit of luck. But your Soulscryer does most of that too and is better for rituals. Can I ask why you went 2x3 Ishlaen instead of 1x6? I'm leaning towards 1x6 because it feels meatier, but without any great thought behind it. And I kinda need to decide before assembling them tomorrow evening to know how many command group models to do... ?
  4. I'm using the shattered dominion bases which happen to have peg-holes underneath, so rather than stick the curved stems on top of the shattered dominion detail I've decided to go with these peg stems and drill up into the eels after snipping off the nub underneath: https://www.games-workshop.com/en-IE/Citadel-Flying-Stems-with-60mm-Flying-Bases An expensive extra but what else is new? Having said that I did also try sticking the flying stems to the eels as provided (i.e. the claw and the nub, using plastic glue) and in fairness they do seem to hold well enough - after some precarious balancing until dry, mind.
  5. Hi all, looking to finish off my 2k Deepkin army. Before I splash (...! ?) the cash any thoughts on these options? My goals for this force are variety, fun to play with and against, low model count (painted asap), middling power level (neither fully optimised nor weaksauce). Already have (1320 pts): Akhelian King (general) Tidecaster 10 Thralls 6 Morsarr Guard Allopex Leviadon Option 1 - balanced? (+620 pts): Soulscryer 10 Reavers 6 Ishlaen Guard Akhelian Corps Option 2 - harder hitting? (+680 pts): Eidolon of the Storm 6 Ishlaen Guard Option 3 - fewer eels? (+640/680 pts): Eidolon of the Sea/Storm 3 Ishlaen Guard Akhelian Corps Option 1 is my original plan but when I saw I could drop a Soulscryer, 10 Reavers and the Akhelian Corps for a Storm Eidolon that seemed like a good trade. And then dropping a further 3 Ishlaen to bring the Akhelian Corps back in, have the option of Storm->Sea Eidolon and make it less eel-heavy is tempting, but perhaps comes in at too low a model count? Set me straight fish-friends! ??
  6. The weapon profile should really say "launcher" then, rather than "launchers"... Anyway, 12 shots is more like it. ?
  7. Thanks man, I missed that detail. RAW I'd say you're right, but hopefully they'll errata it the other way.
  8. Yep turn 3 is late alright, especially with heroes dying off. At least with horrors it can be 4 fate points plus 6 horror points or whatever which potentially gets 'em in earlier. I don't see summoning being massively OP at all in practice. Feels a lot more like hard work than free stuff!
  9. I really like the way fate/horror points can be mixed, e.g. 8 dead pinks letting you summon 20 blues (well, two lots of 10 I guess?) using the 16 horror points collected so far plus 4 fate points thrown in. Means you don't have to wait around for the last pinks to die, your opponent can't slow down your reinforcements by not targeting those last few pinks, and you can always use the petty vengeance thing instead of gathering those last few horror points you know you won't use. Will make things more tactically open hopefully. And should be fun! ?
  10. Thanks elfhead, I guess I'll find out for myself soon enough. ?
  11. Hi @elfhead, are the Melusai upper bodies much bigger than those of regular Witch Elves, would you say? Looking for suitable female torsos for some Kairic Acolyte conversions and the Witch Elf ones look a bit too small... Quality work btw! ?
  12. Haha, check out the single square baser in the first shot trying to look inconspicuous!
  13. Incredible progress. How did you even...? Meanwhile in Average Joe land, it took me 10 minutes to get one thin coat of grey paint onto a single Screamer this morning...
  14. Love the updated reavers, broader representation can only ever be a good thing!
  15. Love the grey cloaks! Nice, muted change from the usual purple etc.
  16. Those Plagues Monks look really good, more than sufficient! Just finish off the bases and on to the next ones! A couple of tips/suggestions from my own past experience: - Out of sight out of mind. Decide which models to do next and put the rest physically away, much easier to focus on a few at a time. - Finish each batch fully, including bases etc. Going back to do 100 bases later might be more efficient but it's such a chore it'll be really off-putting. If you finish as you go the unfinished pile dwindles tangibly. - Beware of things that cost a lot of time. If there's a quick and a slow way to do shields for example, and not a huge difference in the end result really, the extra time cost will add up hugely over many models. That's not to say you should cut corners where it's important to take some time! I'd also add that actively working through a backlog is hugely satisfying once you get going. You're not just saving money, you're sorting your life out, and also giving your models the care and attention you hoped to when you first bought them.
  17. Cheers @mirbeau! I don't even mind slight colour changes really although it's good to hear that's minimal; it's mainly the frosting that gets my blood boiling when it shows up!
  18. They're fantastic, just the right amount of red for it not to be overwhelming. Lovely and crisp too!
  19. Cheers for that summary, after some bad experiences with spray varnish in the past (of all kinds - it's always humid in Ireland and you can't get Testor's easily ) I've been keeping an eye out for impressions of the new stuff.
