  1. It's no secret that the Stormcast, being the poster boys (& gals) of AoS receive frequent updates. Especially because the central narrative often involves them directly. We are experiencing a bit of a renaissance with GW. Updates are coming more quickly and new or updated factions are dripping with lore and interesting rules that are improving the health of the gaming community. At the time of this writing Gloomspite Gitz dropped a month ago and the new Skaven and Flesh Eater Courts Battletomes are a week away from release with regular drips of information coming in from the community site. A common refrain from both myself and other Stormcast players within our community is that the Stormcast lack a kind of internal balance. We have many options to choose from but in many cases our synergies can be clunky leaving little room for diverse army build, we usually end up having to exploit a select few units to compete. Our most recent update with the Sacrosanct Chamber brought us several new tools that have begun to dominate Stormcast lists. In particular we have the Celestar Ballista , Sequitors and Evocators. At first these were described as borderline game breaking. I think as we have come to see Stormcast are not cleaning up the tournament scene and the output/ of these units you are seeing are being matched by new releases in other armies and they are starting to look more inline with the new meta power-levels. DoK and LoN are seeing armies close the gap with their own power level but this is not to say that those factions don't need a few adjustments. If you look at the damage; even battleline units in GG, FEC and Skaven armies are going to be putting out with minimal buffing we are going to see the superiority of Sequitors and Evocators mellow out which I think is a good thing for the community. What interests me more than anything though is the prospect of loving my army composition and rules interactions. Currently I think the Stormcast have rigid and clunky interactions/ synergies barring a few exceptions which consequently are taken in most lists. Consider that Zombie Dragons are going to be conditional Battleline choices in FEC armies and Skaven will not have to lock itself into one clan to have units benefit from clan keywords. These are exciting changes that allow more fluidity to building armies. We may see the Stardrake come into it's own outside of being a massive reactive roadblock, it could very well let us finally take Dracothian Guard units as battleline choices and hopefully they will be appropriately costed going forward. In additon, we may be allowed to gain Stormhost benefits that do not force us to handicap ourselves with poor command traits and bad (usually our only) artefacts. It's an exciting time and though it may be a year or two before our next update I think the Stormcast could very likely become a more fluid and "healthily" synergistic army where both our opponents and ourselves enjoy a dynamic tactical experience.
  2. I've been experimenting with spells from the lore of the Storm, the lore of Invigoration and the endless spells specific to the Stormcast. I've come away with some impressions and I'd like to leave this thread as a guide to new players as well as a springboard for some conversation from current SE players. Lore of the Storm- very much a hit or miss lore, this lore is all about dealing mortal wounds and not always in a satisfying fashion. Lightning Blast- A fine little spell that's quite reliable on your lesser caster heroes who don't have the "prime electrids" ability. Its cheap and it has UNLIMITED range! Starfall- this is a bad spell, it's cheap to cast but basically works like a shotgun arcane bolt (which sounds cooler than it is). The range is very limiting at 12", the 6" bubble is nice but you still need to roll 4+ per unit to hit them and its only 1 wound per unit. Thundershock- A personal favorite of mine, though it's not guaranteed to have an effect even if you successfully cast it. dealing mortal wounds is just icing on the cake, you really take this for the -1 debuff which is always huge, its like have another relictor thunderstorm prayer that can hit multiple units. Azyrite Halo- Another reliable pick for me, combos very well with our shield bearing units for which we are spoiled. Put on a unit of sequitors channeling into their shields for maximum value. Throwing back mortals on an unmodified 6 is really solid in most combats you will find yourself in. Chain Lightening- basically a better Starfall with 2 higher casting value. You get twice the range, better targeting bubble in my opinion and you're doing better damage right away if it goes off. I think the damage could be better for its cost but its not a terrible pick. Stormcaller- a bad spell, it has a high cost and is too conditional. every enemy unit gets rolled for which is nice but you need a 6+ to hit them for d3 MW. Think about how many times you've rolled 12 or more die and come up with ZERO 6's. Its too random and unreliable. If it was on a 5+ would be the only way I would consider taking it. Lore of Invigoration- your combat multipliers and a sold lore for a few reasons not least of which is that your evocators can pick a spell from here. Terrifying Aspect- it's ok, but you've got so many better options. Celestial Blades- better option #1. flexible and cheap with good range, you will never regret taking it. Plus 1 to wound is always great, will make your liberators actually kill stuff. Speed of Lightning- an excellent pick on Evocators, their one weakness is to rending attacks and the best way to avoid that is to getting into combat at the right time with the right enemies. This spell makes that happen, my evocators win me games alone with this spell, get into combat when they can be chosen first and make sure it happens that turn. Endless Spells- two spells that are just fine and one that's quite an investment but potentially very potent if used intelligently. Celestian Vortex- it's ok except against chaos where it's amazing. has an added benefit of reducing missile weapon accuracy so it can be used as a screen if you plan right. Dias Arcanum- a strange one who's effect doesn't match it's own lore. needs to be used by a 5 wound wizard, gives them plus 1 to save, 12" flying move and an additional unbinding pretty useful even if you don't need the extra unbind. Everblaze Comet-a pretty cool spell with a cool model. can be cast without line of sight and outside unbinding range. has an immediate mortal wound output that punishes close knit armies. acts as area denial because it continues to pump out mortal wounds over time and disrupts enemy casting attempt making the cast on a -1. the only negative thing you can say about this endless spell is that it's not a steal for points. you pay for it but if you are clever with it you can really mess with your enemy.
  3. I had some time to go over the Stormcast today and taking into account my last ten games I've come to some conclusions about what I believe could be done to balance and sensibly adjust the internal workings of the faction. This is not exhaustive. I haven't even gotten into our battalions; which in my opinion are almost all unplayable in any kind of competitive environment save one or two. This is also intended to spark conversation so please, contradict me! I hope this post takes off and we get a good bit of discussion in here, thank you in advance for your time considering the following... -Liberators remain at 100pts but cap at 20 for 360. Sequitors go to 140-160pts capping at 440. -Paladins fall, using Retributors as a baseline to 180-200pts and Evocators rise to 220-240pts. (Personally I'd like to see a buff to paladins to reflect their abilities as described by the lore.) -Judicators stay constant and Castigators become battleline in the same manner as Sequitors. (Reasom here being the stormcast have maybe 6ish shooting options and Judicators are taken 95% of the time due to being the only ranged focused battleline option.) -Dracothian Guard remain the same as do Evocators on Dracolines. I have heard arguments to the contrary and that is why I list it here. -Prosecutors fall to 80 points. -Gryph hounds to 100 points. -Lord Exorcist to 100 points. -Change wording on all special characters from "Hammers of Sigmar" to "Unit with the same Stormhost Keyword" so that no one is locked from having a special character because they play/paint a different host as in the old days.
  4. Hi guys! Everybody has probably seen these minis a thousand times, but I still thought I'd share them with you. WIP shots of my fresh Stormcast form the Age of Sigmar starter set. This summer I finally caved in and bought the starter at my FLGS. The WIP pics are taken with my Iphone, but I hope to use a real camera once everything is finished. In the (not so) foreseeable future, I also plan to do the Khorne part. They will join my unit of Chaos Knights (pics included) I finished just before the old World met its end last year. Back then, I was totally distraught (well, as distraught as ons can get over little plastic soldiers from a fantasy world). But now, having felt the joy of painting the new minis, I can't wait to delve deeper in the Nine Realms! I must say, I LOVED painting the Stormcast. The quality of these new generation miniatures is just astounding. I'm doing them in one big batch of eighteen minis, so I could use my airbrush to maximum effect. The gold was a three part affair using the Vallejo Game Air range: - Base layer of brassy brass over chaos black primer - First highlight bright bronze - Finally Glorious Gold.I plan to add more contrast using GW Auric Armor and some more washes. Until next time! And let the meat grinder grind on.. The green, blue and bone on the Dracoth is almost done. Just some highlights left do. Green is Incubi Darkness base, then the other Dark Eldar named green (keep forgetting the name). I added some gloss varnish to the mouth. Batch painting! And my Chaos Knights, still waiting to be rebased:
  5. A few months ago I've started collecting and playing Age of Sigmar with my brother and my girlfriend. I wanted to pick up Stormcast Eternals because I really like the aesthetics of this army. I got the Stormcast Eternals half of the Age of Sigmar starter set, and from that point I bought Knight Venator, Celestant Prime, Judicators, Start Collecting! Stormcast Eternals, Lord Castellant and Paladin Protectors. I really liked the Pitched Battle mode, so I've set my eyes on the tournament scene and would like to slowly get into playing in the torunaments. At the moment my 2000 point roster looks like this: I checked the rules regarding the Hammerstrike Force, and as far as I can see you have to set the Paladins within 6" of the Prosecutors. If my logic is right then setting up Prosecutors and the Lord Celestant in the Celestial Realm (due to Scions of the Storm), placing them within 9" of the enemy and then deploying the Paladins within 3" of a priority target as long as they are within 6" of the prosecutors should work, right? I was wondering about the viability of the list in terms of tournament play. In my mind that would work, but then again I played only 1000-1500 point games against Sylvaneth and Blades of Khorne so far. What would be the next steps for expanding my collection of miniatures and getting more versatility in Pitched Battles? I was thinking about getting Fulminators with a Heraldor, or maybe a Stardrake.
  6. Hi Everyone! so...im trying to build a fun and competitive Stormcast army! the list is suppose to work in a competitive envoirment. 7. Hey guys I have a tournament coming up and I was wondering if I could have some help with this list: Allegiance: Stormcast EternalsLeadersLord Celestant (100)- General- Trait: Staunch Defender - Stormcast EternalsLord Castellant (100)- Mystic Light: Lantern of the TempestLord Relictor (80)- Prayer: Lightning Chariot- Mystic Light: Lantern of the TempestKnight Venator (120)- Artefact: Luckstone Battleline5 x Judicators (160)- Skybolt Bows5 x Judicators (160)- Skybolt Bows10 x Liberators (200)- WarhammersUnits10 x Paladin Retributors (440)10 x Paladin Protectors (400)3 x Prosecutors with Stormcall Javelins(80)1 x Gryph-Hound (40)BattalionsHammerstrike Force (120)Total: 2000/2000 the idea behind the lightening chariot prayer is to help move units around to were I need them, castellent to help buff saves, relictor to help heal and for prayer, I'm wondering is a veritant would be better? Venator is to help deal with heros, liberators for a tank wall, and to hold objectives
  8. Hi guys and girls Our beautiful battletome came out and now we have some great options for our heroes. Blades, armours, traits, lights, prays... a lot of stuff. Do you have any interesting ideas/builds for Stormcast leaders? My first idea on super tanky LCON: Any creative ideas on Azyros or Venator? It's a good time to think about them because of Aetherstrike battalion ;). And what about Celestant-Prime? He can't have any artifacts, but maybe there is some special use for him thanks to new battalions?
  9. I recently just got a unit of Vanguard Hunters. They are awesome. Able to run and shoot in the same phase. Also being able to spawn in on any movement phase to flank enemies? Fantastic. But what do you think of all of the other guys? The vanguard paladors, the Aether-wings and Lord Aquilor. I think they are really cool.
  10. So I played a SC v SC today. 1500pt game. I lost. Miserably... what on earth is a good counter for these blimmin concusors?! they just absolutely RUIN my infantry and make mince of anything that isnt on a stardrake. Any advice welcome!
  11. Overview – The Jotenbergs’, mountain-heralds of the coming of season in Ghyran, are being corrupted by the forces of the Chaos God Nurgle. Rarely seen and few in number, most have been defiled by Rotbringers, however, some still remain. From Azyr, the Celestial Realm, Sigmar sends the lithe host of Virion the Cleanser, and the stalwart ‘Stone-Hearts’ Warrior Chamber of the Lions of Sigmar to ensure no more of these beings fall, or the Realm of Life would surely suffer. Awaiting them is the dark Grublethrex the Vile, the Fly-blown Prophet of Nurgle and his plague-ridden forces. Indeed, the battles ahead of them are to decide the fate of the Jade Kingdoms and beyond. ‘Stone-Hearts’ Warrior Chamber, Lions of Sigmar – Marius Stone-Heart – Lord-Celestant Surdak – Dracoth Jarin Duskwalker – Lord-Relictor Volker Witch-Bane – Lord-Veritant Marmidex – Gryph-Hound Artus – Liberator-Prime Litian – Liberator-Prime Jurgan – Retributor-Prime Kyras – Prosecutor-Prime Karlas – Judicator-Prime Lurdof’s Ironweld Company – Lurdof – Steam Tank Commander Virion’s Unseen Host – Virion the Cleanser – Skywarden Zortan – Shadow-Walker Ebac – Shadow-Walker Sorhec – Shadow-Walker Grublethrex’s Rotbringers – Grublethrex the Vile, Fly-blown Prophet of Nurgle – Lord of Plagues Bubex the Rotten – Blightlord Globule – Aspiring Champion Urgal the Disgusting - Sorcerer
  12. Hey guys, Australian here. Bordering on the NSW and VIC. Got myself an old Orruk army from the skull pass days and just brought myself 2 starters to get myself going with a Stormcast side. My next purchase I'm thinking will be the start collecting box and then 2 more Retributors to start my army off nicely. should leave me with 25 Liberators, 9 Prosecutors, 10 Retributors and 3 Lord Cellestants and 2 Lord Relictors. Any one have any suggestions on things i should do differently before i go ahead with the plan? I'll be spamming these forums with progress pics. You have all be warned.
