  1. Saw a pricing sheet from a FLGS employee and it looks like the Free Cities Start Collecting kits will be $100, which to my knowledge is a new high, at least for AoS going off of the gameworkshop store. I'm not sure how that compares to the others nowadays but for the Greywater Fastness one its a 1/3 savings (basically get the heroes for free) which is always nice but seems like less savings than you normally get. Edit: Did the math on the loser elf one and its about 40% savings so more in line with the other SC.
  2. I've tried reading some of them but yeah, I just could not get into them. Basically, if you're not into Stormcast they're a don't bother. Also, BL novels got jacked up in price outside of the omnibuses some years ago so I generally don't get them anyways. I did eventually read Soul Wars and City of Secrets but I'd really only consider them okay as far as novels go. They were fun to read and helped build the world more even with Soul Wars still having a strong Stormcast focus (I read it for the Nighthaunt really). I feel like GW trying to engineer a space marine phenomenon with the Stormcast has hurt AoS as they were hyper focused on creating supermen when AoS launched.. As happy as I am for Cities of Sigmar it irks me that they are sticking Stormcast in there instead of just having them be allies. It feels like if they put Space Marines in the Imperial Guard codex. I understand GW loves Stormcast more than God loves humanity and I applaud their self-restraint in not releasing a new Stormcast Chamber in over a year but still, GW could have chilled a bit more and let a human be on the cover without a Stormcast looking over his shoulder.
  3. That's my understanding but it's just a rumor. I figure we'll find out for sure by Saturday though. I'm staying optimistic about pure duardin forces considering what they've done with incredibly small miniature lines in the Fyreslayer and FEC battletomes. Plus with Tempest Eye we can bring in KO and dont have to spend ally points on gyrocopters and bombers.
  4. Well there is that rumor of Clanshields being a "new" generic warrior unit that uses the longbeard models but you could easily use other duardin models for. I'm expecting warscroll rewrites on the level of the Fyreslayer 2.0 battletome. So here's to hoping to 2 wounds while we're at it.
  5. I just noticed that both cannon variants were removed, I thought the human one stuck around. I also noticed that the Cogsmith and the Gyrocopter and bomber are listed under Free People in the webstore :P.
  6. With Imperial Guard, I made up my own scheme and cycled through playing the different regiments to try out the rules. I want to be able to try out a bunch of different builds and rule sets and really experience everything the battletome has to offer. Though I understand its annoying when someone is playing a force designed to look like Group A as Group B, hence why I avoided any of the official schemes.
  7. I'm surprised they're keeping all the small subfactions instead of consolidating them into duardin, free peoples, and aelves. Still looking forward to it though, I'm curious what I'll be able to do with a dwarf themed force.
  8. Yeah, I'm super excited for the new start collecting box. I wanted to start a dwarf army in 8th but couldn't afford it and then with AoS I've been waiting for them to get updated rules. I'm surprised at the negativity considering they're getting warscroll rewrites, a new battletome, and a SC box but I suppose if any thread is going to be full of old grumblers it would be this one.
  9. A guy ran Gotrek in a dispossessed list at a local tourney this weekend. Didn't get to play him but Gotrek made a bit of a splash. As expected super killy but slow as hell meant he basically created a no go zone that varied in effectiveness based on the scenario. He died in two of the games I believe (1 for sure) which actually surprised me. Interestingly, everyone in my area seems to be putting him on the 32mm base (I almost did the 40mm but it just bugs me when the basing is as tall as the model on it). I really don't see it being an issue even in tournaments as both bases come in the box and if anything I think the 40mm makes him a bit weaker (can get a bit more attacks in from big units).
  10. Yup, not to mention regardless of how it came to be its here now. I very seriously doubt GW will squat anything in it within the next couple of years as they gave it a 2.0 battletome and if it sells well (and I think it will be very popular) they may reconsider their stance on the factions within it. Edit: As for other battletomes this year, outside of Mawtribes and Bonereapers, I don't think we'll see any unless GW breaks tradition and does a battletome release in December. The schedule is just getting too full even with Cities and Warclans being released together. Though maybe there will be room if Bonereapers and Sisters are just 1 week releases but that feels unlikely to me. Another tinfoil hat theory for the break in AoS battletomes releases over the summer (besides the Slyvaneth shipping issues) is they might be reviewing rules a bit more closely now. Skaven, Flesheater Courts, and Slaanesh have all been criticized for being over the top.
  11. Finally! Really looking forward to the articles this week. I've been wanting to build a dwarf theme army with the model kits that came out during 8th since... well 8th. The Greywater Fastness SC is perfect for me. I hope the dispossessed dwarfs are going up to 2 wounds each.
  12. So the new Underworlds beastmen warband has a spell that gives +1 to hit to ANY friendly unit (and d3 mortal wounds but meh). I'm extremely tempted to try then out in a Blight king list though it is a 7 to cast. I've been waiting for ages for the ability to stack hit on Blightkings.
  13. If I had to choose one I'd say high fantasy because I like more imaginative and otherworldly settings, especially when it comes to models. BUT Quality of writing is really important, especially in a high fantasy setting. A world needs clearly defined rules and systems with an internal logic that is reasonable and consistently followed. It has always bothered me that with Fyreslayers we have a militaristic culture with a strong emphasis on lineage yet essentially no women. When they are explained its a weaksauce explanation of them "being very rare". Well if they're rare how do Fyreslayers keep their numbers up considering they are fighting near constantly? Are dwarf women basically broodmothers like in Dragon Age? Are 90% of dwarf men fine with being incels or are they constantly having gangbangs? Was Felix ever invited to one? Yes this keeps me up at night. On the smaller scale, characters are much more relatable and interesting when they actually have to be intelligent and clever to make use of magic instead of just thrusting their hands out and "focusing their will". I also find invincible characters to be very boring.
  14. I think Ogre players would be more upset if they removed all the nonplastic models from Gutbusters and Beastclaw raiders along with leadbelchers then didn't say anything about the Mawtribes battletome other than its "coming... eventually". Likewise I think the reason we haven't heard much comparatively from the Ironjawz/Bonesplitterz players is that Ironjawz have a very playable army right now and non of there model line has been retired recently.
  15. I was wondering the same thing the other day. I might have to suck it up and start dealing with Twitch.
  16. I'm sure the books are coming regardless but I absolutely agree with you on point 3, this has been a major flub. Tom from Warhammer Weekly mentioned that the Slyvaneth shipping issues pushed AoS releases back about a month which would explain a lot. I believe Beastgrave is the first thing previewed at AoS open day to go on preorder and its been about 2 months. What I don't understand is why GW is so silent about about Cities. They released an article the next day about the bonereapers when a potato camera pic got released but haven't said a single thing about Cities since the cull. Pretty much this with the added bit that the Cull was the final deathblow to these armies in their current form. Following that up with either the release of Cities or a community article shedding some light on how the effected armies will work in the new book would have been the logical move. GW has done neither. I don't think its reasonable to expect GW to produce and support all its models in perpetuity or to claim that GW is holding these battletomes back until there's a big enough uproar. But at the same time this is not how you handle a product release. What's so frustrating is how easily this could have been handled better. The NOVA bungle and the bonereapers leak and following article makes me feel like GW, or at least their marketing team, is far more interested in pushing bonereapers than Cities (or Warclans for that matter). It is concerning to see a company seemingly be so dismissive towards a product a good chunk of its player base has been wanting for years. On the bright side, the rules team and marketing team are separate entities and supposedly this was a passion product for Sam Pearson. So I'm betting that its going to be a pretty good battletome.
  17. And there is ALWAYS somebody better than you
  18. One thing I noticed is that Spine Crushing blow only effects the next attack action while Onslaught is for the whole activation. I have done the math but I feel this makes Onslaught better in pretty much any scenario that involves attacking twice.
  19. I've played Cypher Lords and Iron Golems now against a variety of opponents. I feel like the most unbalanced aspect of the game the scenario generation. The tournament scenarios that I've seen seem much more balanced. Iron Golems aren't as bad as I expected but I definitely find their abilities to be lacking, especially Spine Cleaving blow (adds strength to the next attack action equal to dice value and is a double). Due to the value of crits, somewhat low number of attacks that Iron Golems get, and that it only effects the next attack action I feel its worse than the Onslaught universal ability in almost all circumstances.
  20. I'll error on the side of being nice in my response but that is incredibly rude and obnoxious.
  21. For a recent GW announcement it was kinda far in advance (I want to say AOS previewed battletomes have all been out within a month or two in the past couple years), it is also a book that frankly, should have been released years ago. They did a large model cull that left the component armies of Free city in an even worse limbo than they were before with no hints or previews of how they will play in the new battletome. Finally at NOVA they said Free Cities were too soon to release to answer questions about the battletome. This has been followed by no battletome release or previews and items previewed at NOVA being released.
  22. Depends on what you consider soon but maybe in a year or two. I've noticed that the big reasons to buy 2.0 battletomes aside from lore and art is allegiance abilities and artifacts/command traits as opposed to the actual warscrolls. It would be pretty easy to slot in a new character or even unit into existing 2.0 battletomes thanks to this and keywords. I'm thinking after the 2.0 battletome roll out is done we'll see start seeing model releases independent of battletome releases fairly often.
  23. We know the CoS book is complete as they had a physical copy at the AoS open day. If anything I think leaking the CoS battletome would be the smart move as it could allow for people to start planning their purchases or at least have some idea of how their army will play. I think why people are so impatient for Cities but not as much Warclans is that Ironjawz have coherent, at least semi-competitive, and fun to play rules right now. I doubt there will be a 2nd culling of models though I very strongly suspect all the random small order factions will just be rolled up into Free People, Duardin/Dispossessed, and Aelf. If there is a 2nd Culling though a sick part of me hopes that there was miscommunication between departments and Great Swords got the axe. It would just be too funny to have a new battletome with a model that was discontinued before it was launched front and center on the cover.
