Mhm. Mhmmm
I am in some trouble.
My Girlfriend already makes jokes of me whenever I paint a new Unit "Let me guess, you chose Incubi Darkness?".
What am I to say...
Misthavn it is XD here we go again.

Seriously though: I am torn between Greywater Fastness, Misthavn, Lethis or Living City XD (either I don't like all of the colors or I dont like the lore but I like the colors, send help!) XD

I really don’t care much for Human Armies in any setting, at least those that haven’t been mutated abundantly and are covered in spikes and skulls. But blimey - These photos of the Cities of Sigmar together really are quite something, I don’t care for them hugely as individuals miniatures, but as an army, Ogors next to cannons, next Shielded hand guns- really quite unique. The Palanquin needs to find a use somewhere in my collection, can’t wait to see what mad converter out there does to make it a Grail Pilgrim Reliquae.

Am I the only one to deduce a certain subtext from what I've highlighted in bold ??

Max had a good suggestion early on – the range had to feel complete from day one. The status quo is set with the first wave of Cities of Sigmar miniatures, and they are designed on shared principles to give you the framework.

I feel your pain! I'm torn between Living City, Lethis and Misthavn.

I was settled on Living City for a while since it would fit with my Sylvaneth and Hallowed Knights (and it's just a nice colour scheme in general) but both Lethis and Misthavn look annoyingly good as well so it's still up in the air a bit.

It means starter set

I'm not so sure... It would be an odd way to refer to the army set as "first wave". I have more of an impression that it refers to all COS releases as a whole. But maybe you're right (which I hope you're not 😉).

Yes I think you're correct. I think they're  generalising as obviously a second wave could come next year or 10 years but it will come. I'm of the mindset this release was to give the solid human base to the faction that's been asked for. They've not gone over the top, they've mentioned before they could easily have gone overboard with ideas and kept it grounded! Right approach I think.

Also have we had any say in the ogors yet? I'm sure it mentions it in the battletome but I'm surprised the studio haven't touched on it.

I'm in the same situation, but with Lethis, Vindicarum and maybe Excelsis. The problem is that I'd like to have an army that reflects its nature through details specific to its city, but I'm no good at converting... Perhaps we should open a mutual aid topic on this vital issue 😅.

It is a first wave, obviously, the question is when they are gonna release the second wave. If you remember well, almost all Lumineth players said that the third wave must be released during this edition... and... Wishes are wishes.

Just make your own one. Create your own lore and pick your favourite colours. Twice the fun.

I love how they gave you three unnamed Cities to choose from. I like the one with the sea creature on it. Now just gotta find a good colour scheme to go alongside.

I will go with the middle one of the miscelaneous. Praised be the team for the million customisable options we are receiving on this range.

TL:DR:

  • Icons were designed quite early on based on city identities/pre-existing lore
  • Main purpose is to help city-agnostic minis feel like they are from a specific city (alongside colour schemes)
  • First wave of minis lays the groundwork for the faction, giving something to players to expand from
  • Goal was to allow people to come up with their own cities/iconography/etc. building off of official designs

Greywater? If you don't find a perfect fit, then why not come up with your own scheme and lore that you like everything about?

Yeah, mentioning that the range they are releasing now had to feel complete due to a suggestion/brainstorming has me a bit more confident than before when hoping for a second wave at some point. Hopefully next edition (although I'm still happy with the range, I feel it's a bit sparse in some aspects (only 1 new thing for Ironweld, 1 for Collegiate, 1 for Devoted. I feel like getting rid of old Fantasy kits that say "Karl Franz" everywhere would be pretty high priority for the range, even if I still love basically all remaining human and duardin kits 😛))

Also, having a good look at that transfer sheet, oml it's amazing and I'm so glad we are getting 4 of them in the Army set when even like 2-3 would be enough to cover basically everything.

A Cities hobby thread would be awesome. I need more inspiration on how to make these poor sods even more gunpowdery for the Fastness...

I like the Excelsis colors in the artwork but I‘m a sucker for silver armor… the name reminds me of the least fun software of all time though, which is a major drawback! Who‘s the leader? Williaminus „Bill“ Franz Gates?

I hope someone will post an image with lots of different schemes but I imagine there will be a showcase by the Eavy Metal team anyways. A few of those insignias look like I‘d really like them!

I feel tempted by Misthaven, as I love the ruffians and corsairs theme, the problem I have is that I have zero confidence now in what they will do with the old range, specially with the non human part. As it is, I don’t see myself buying dark aelves corsairs and kharividis when there is a high probability for them to dissapear in three years…

Also, I had a small army of cities from Anvilgard, rip that project lol
