overtninja
@Nymzee Sylvaneth are a really versatile army, so you can decide what you want to use and how you want to play and still find success while playing. I personally play Dreadwood because I love fielding so many huge monsters, even when considering that fluffing your attacks can ruin your chances of winning with so few units on the field. (I play Wanderers so I'm used to this kind of fragile army build strategy.) What I will say, regardless of how you choose to play your Sylvaneth army, you will want to buy about 6-8 Citadel Woods for your army, because Wyldwoods are one of the most important things about playing Sylvaneth. Their potential to limit enemy movement, ruin charges, block off large models that don't fly from being maximally effective, spook your enemies into not engaging in combat, buffing almost everything in your own army by proximity, covering objectives, blocking Line of Sight, dissuading spellcasting near them, and providing your whole army with huge mobility via teleporting makes them not only necessary, but easily the single most useful thing in the whole army. Along with Big Al being Queen Buff Supreme, Wyldwoods make the whole army bat far above their average. I'd recommend taking the Acorn of the Ages with every game, and make sure you always have Verdant Blessing as a spell on one character, to that end!
Aleister
Hello! I'm interested into getting into AoS, been playing 40k a few years and the AoS models looks cool and the game seems fun from what I've seen. I am thinking of going with Sylvaneth, mostly because Alarielle is an awesome model and my wife digs the army a lot (trying to turn her into a psuedo gamer, haha). I'm really not sure what I want in my Alarielle build, I'm trying to figure out what is 'good'. I can't afford to splurge on all the models and test all of them out right now, I'd like to start off with a decent list. I don't want to be an uber powergamer with a WAC mentality, but I don't want to get rolled either. From what I understand, there are a lot of Death players in my area, especially Nighthaunt, but I think the local meta is fairly diverse. So, I've created two lists that are both just -slightly- over on points, 2010 and 2020 respectively. No Endless Spells in them either, which is also a bummer. I can't figure out what to cut, and as I agonize on these choices, in the end I keep asking myself 'Which of these lists should I even play?' I feel like deciding on a list would help me commit to cutting the last few points and moving forward. I was hoping to see what you folks think about these two lists in terms of 1. Fun, 2. Strength, 3. What I should cut/changes I should make.List 1: Allegiance: OrderMortal Realm: GhyranLeadersAlarielle the Everqueen (600)- General- Deepwood Spell: RegrowthTreelord Ancient (300)- Artefact: The Silverwood Circlet - Deepwood Spell: The ReapingBranchwych (80)- Artefact: Seed of Rebirth - Deepwood Spell: Verdant BlessingBattlemage (120)- Specialisation: JadeBattleline10 x Dryads (100)10 x Dryads (100)5 x Tree-Revenants (80) Units3 x Kurnoth Hunters (200)- Greatswords3 x Kurnoth Hunters (200)- GreatswordsBattalionsHousehold (100)Gnarlroot Wargrove (130)Total: 2010 / 2000Extra Command Points: 2Allies: 0 / 400Wounds: 93 Concept: I originally wanted Lord Kroak as my Order Wizard (Gnarlroot Wargrove) because he is insane, I was struggling very much to fit him in with Alarielle too without diluting my list overly much. The Battlemage seems pretty cool and definitely cheap. For this list, I'm mostly hoping to maximize the Kurnoth's, regenerating and healing them, while Alarielle smashes. I'm not sure that I should go with 'The Reaping' with Treelord Ancient or not, but my biggest concern with this list is having too few Battleline models. List 2: Allegiance: SylvanethMortal Realm: GhyranLeadersAlarielle the Everqueen (600)- General- Deepwood Spell: RegrowthBranchwraith (80)- Artefact: Ranu's Lamentiri Branchwraith (80)- Artefact: Acorn of the Ages - Deepwood Spell: Verdant BlessingSpirit of Durthu (380)Battleline30 x Dryads (270)30 x Dryads (270)10 x Dryads (100)BattalionsForest Folk (140)Harvestboon Wargrove (100)Total: 2020 / 2000Extra Command Points: 2Allies: 0 / 400Wounds: 108 Concept: Basically, swamp the board with Dryads, teleporting them around and tarpitting the board, while summoning more Dryads to flood onto objectives (since it takes a few turns for them to get into charge range, I thought this would be the best strategy with the summons). Alarielle and Durthu kill everything, ideally. I like this list because it seems important to have plenty of objective grabbers, but I'm not sure if I'm going overboard. I appreciate any help, thanks!
frostfire
Hi,dear tree fellas, another question about wyldwoods. Does the rule wyldwood apply to a flying model ?

Zekefreed
Hey guys, Does anyone have experience with lots of tree revenants? I’m talking in the 60s potentially. I feel like tree revenants are actually incredible offensive units I just never take enough of. Having big blocks of them being able to way pipe and potentially turn 1 charge a lot of stuff could be devestating? Anyone try it?

I like their mindgames and offensive pressure a lot. Either the opponent leaves exploitable openings or you've forced them to play more conservatively. I haven't thought about bigger units yet, but will probably scale to two units of ten soon, so they aren't just tax in Ironbark. That said, they're made of paper against anything that doesn't have archer melee stats, so you'd probably have to play a very all-in game. Zekefreed
I believe because of their mobility you could treat them like a surgical scalpel. 2 units of 20 I think will wreck havoc on most things. I think a list like this could potentially have a strong psychological effect on opponents also. If the edges of the board are not safe because tree revenants can get there at anytime they might funnel their forces to the center of the board, where your woods could be waiting to embrace them. This is conjecture of course. I imagine a list with Cogs and alarielle could be very effective. I have to run the numbers though.

I mean mobility.. sure.. but damage output is rather easily compared .. do the math vs anyother troop in our army.
KasperBN
Hi all, Have a few questions that came up in yesterday's game, hope someone can help 1. How do the rules deal withj large models in the Wyldwoods, aka both flying and non-flying? Do flying models "land on the trees"? Do large model that cannot fly, simply just stand on the trees anyways, even though smaller models are not allowed to? It came up in Duality of Death where only heroes or behemoths can take the objective, I parked the 2 objectives underneath Wyldwoods, and we just played with large heroes being able to stand on them anyways, but what RAW? 2. How does spell casting with visibility work with our woods and flying units? Is it the same as shooting where flying units ignore the LOS rule? 3. Do summoned dryads get to move (Roused to Wrath), or just charge? 4. How does Alarielle's Living Battering Ram work with our Wyldwoods? I assume it hits our own units as well, but does it "spread" to all 3 citadel woods, aka a massive aoe if she charges near a Wyldwood? Oh and does anyone have experience on dealing with Spirit Hosts with CA to reroll hits? I tried sending TLS with ethereal amulet against them, and even with a Stomp landing, 6 spirit hosts melted him quickly. Have not found anything that can stop them. Aezeal
1 non flying units that don't fit between trees can move through 2 visibility =visibility 3. Just charge 4. 3 woods is a single scenery piece so I guess massive AoE.

(would make sense balance wise= 2. So Alarielle can cast spells in and out of woods, so can other flying units, with spells that require visibility. Good to know. 3. Check, thanks. 4. Sounds like one hell of a battering ram

Spirit hosts hit on a 5+, if you stomp hits, that's a 6+ and they reroll results of 1-4 once. I'm guessing you misplayed two rules. Any dice can be rerolled at most once, and rerolls happen before modifiers. With that in mind, they'd be putting out an average of 5-6 mortal wounds. If the TLA isn't working for you, maybe try chaffing them up with dryads.
Draakur
Being new to the game, I’m not entirely sure how GW treats these things, but others might so thought I’d ask: I’ve heard people saying it’s possible Sylvaneth will have an updated book released soon (possibly revealed as early as this weekend at Adepticon), or atleast this year, given GW’s plans to release a lot of Tomes this year - does the “soon” part have any real validity do we think? Is it likely/possible?? Edited March 25, 2019 by Draakur Spelling

Ruhraffe
Everything is possible, but take nothing for granted. Although it would fit nicely to the release of the Underworlds warband, and my buying habit.

kenshin620
Sylvaneth pretty much confirmed.....at a later date. Gloomspite Gitz vs Sylvaneth VS box coming out eventually so it'll likely follow a similar pattern to Carrion Empire (except that GG are already out so it may be used as a vehicle to replace some Resin models in their case, unless they somehow do make something new which would be strange) Edited March 28, 2019 by kenshin620
Craze
What was the timeline of Carrion Empire, meaning how much time passed between a first teaser and the actual release?

Looks like about 30-40 days from first teaser video to actual release. That being said I doubt we hear anything during the ramp up to the other releases announced so we definitely have at least a few weeks. On a separate note I'm a bit shocked that Sylveneth have been picked for a new book, the current one has aged quite well, will definitely be interested to see how the play style evolves. Draakur
Some sharp-eyed chap found what may well be evidence of what one of our new units is going to be (which would actually solve two rumour engine pics), and it looks pretty spot on to me! Twh30
I actually think they may merge wanderers into sylvaneth similar to grots and skaven. Also think they will probably just be tidying up the book ie trying to stop konga lines of dryads as seems like the way they r going
Aezeal
There is a sylvaneth symbol on that warcry notice right? You think the warband we saw will be warcry or underworlds or both? Or will there be 2?

(I'm hoping for wholly withing 6".. but 3"probably more likely)
