I started building my Tzeentch army recently and this is one of the pictures that serves as a great inspiration for me (in general, I absolutely love Adrian Smith and Karl Kopinski): I really like the idea of playing Tzeentch army with a lot of Chaos Warriors, Knights, Tzaangors and Skyfires, supported by Wizaards and Greater Daeons (this is probably far from being tournament-level army, but that was never my intention anyway). Cult of the Thousand Eyes from the "Wrath of the Everchosen" book is definitely something that fits in this idea.
  3. Wait, wasn’t he already dead? His remains were taken to Allarie after he was slain in war agains Nurgle. Last pieces of his essence are within the spear she carries. I know that there may be some additional info in “Dark Harvest” - but I haven’t read it. Where is this part about Alarielle flaying Kurnoth - is it from that book?

My opinion may be "the unpopular one", but I truly believe in that people should not try to focus too much on achieving balance and that giving too much attention to balance is very bad for your overall enjoyment in the long run. I do not believe that Warhammer is a game that is designed around the ideaof competitive play. I alwas thought it was a game where people could use beautiful miniatures to tell stories (inspired by novels, movies or whatever). This was something that (at least for me) was true for both old WHFB and AoS. The rules itself were designed in a certain way, which is great for games with your friends/narrative games, but is far from optimal for competitive gaming. I played Warmachine competitively for many years (and won tournaments both big and small) and I think that WM is the perfect example of the game that was designed purely for the competitive play and that the AoS is far, far away from the balance that exists in WM (and even that balance is not ideal). Also, when I read Jervis' column in WD, I always get the impression that he is designing AoS to be fun and immersive, not to be competitive and perfectly balanced. I can't shake off the feeling that too many people are trying to play competitively and/or are using competitive play (and lists that are good for such play style) as a basis for their thinking about the game itself. In my opinion, if players are focused only on competitive play, then they become more concerned with balance issues. This is only worsened by various YouTube channels, where you can see not only people playing in a certain way, but also people telling you that something is bad or good, like it's the universal truth. And then you end up with players saying that units A and B are unusable, or that the battletome X is bad, or has only 1 valid list. But the problem is - this may be true, but under certain circumstances, which are probably very different from what happens in your regular gaming session with your friends. So I really think that people who are proposing balancing based purely on torunament results are doing it wrong, because they are forgetting AoS was probably never designed with tournaments in mind. It's not a competitive game by design. Also, when it comes to balance, there needs to be a difference between truly unforseen rules interactions and players lacking experience. If something locks you out of the playing completely (does not let you conduct the basic game actions, for example) - that is probably a negative playing experience. On the other hand, every army has some strong unit combination (or a few of them) that you may need to learn to play against. And usually, one of these combinations easily destroys a lot of other lists, but dies to another strong combinaton of units from a different army - and this is probably perfectly normal if the only instrument used for achieving balance are point values. Simply put, two players may both build 2000 point armes, but if one brings only heavily armoured troops and the other one brings only anti-armour units, there is no balance here. In this particular case, it is obvious that some other "balancing instruments" have to exist, besides the points themselves. But if you and your oponnent discuss what you want to play and how you want to play it, this can influence your choice of units, spells, artifacts and scenario rules for that particular game and contribute to making it more enjoybable and less predictable experience. And I really don't think that designers had only one or two lists in mind when they were writing the battletome (or saw competitive play as the only way of playing the game).
  5. I would like to help a bit (mostly with images used for banners/headers/signatures and general design, but I also know a bit of HTML and CSS). I have limited amount of time each week that I can spend on this, so it would be good to know if there is any list of things that need to be addressed.
  6. I think that warscrolls are intentionally made like that. However, many of these WHU models could be use as an alternate versions for heroes or unit leaders, or they can be used in Warcry/Skurmish (where focus on individual models is much greater).
  7. I usually play with my three friends. All of us are playing/collecting armies that we love the most, so there is no “true” metagame. I have Sylvaneth, Idoneth Deepkin, Everchosen and (soon) Tzeentch. My friends play the following armies: - Stormcast eternals - Flesh-eater courts - Cities of Sigmar - Ossiarch Bonereapers - Ogor Mawtribes - Orruk warclans - Beasts of Chaos - Blades of Khorne This means that every one of us has 3-4 armies of various sizes, so there’s a lot of variation.
  8. I started working on a narrative campaign for my two friends and me. Each of us will have a general that will be created using Anvil of Apotheosis rules and those generals will be "main characters" for this campaign. I decied to play Slaves of Darkness/Disciples of Tzeentch army, and here's my Tzeentch hero: The conversion is very simple - this is one of the Varanguard models with Tzaangor Skyfire/Englihtened head. I modified horns a a little bit by removing some small parts.
  9. I'm not really sure what is Sylvaneth treatment? I know that Slaanesh just got a lot of new models, but Sylvaneth range was only expanded with Endless spells and Arch-Revenant in recent years.

  11. I have started painting new batch of Sylvaneth models, using different colour scheme - it was inspired by few similar ones I saw on this forum and in some battle reports I watched. There's still a lot to do, but I could not resist sharing a picture (keep in mind that this is still work in progress)
  12. I would go with Gryph-Chargers or Dracolines. They should be big enogh to have Kurnoth Hunter as a rider, plus I thik they are thematically close (Kurnoth plus Gryph-charger should be a great combination). Also that strange Sphinx model for Slaves of Darkness could be an interesting choice.
  13. Try to focus on one thing at a time, or dedicate a schedule and stick to it - this works for me, since I have a limited amount od time I can set aside for the hobby. I usually assemble all my models fairly quickly - because I want to use them in my games, but painting is something that I struggle with. I usually set aside some time for building miniatures each day - for example 30 - 45 minutes (or more, depending on how much time you have). You could usually build 2 - 4 smaller models during this interval (Space Marines, Dryads, Bloodletters, etc.), or one bigger model (Skullcrusher, Kurnoth Hunter or something similar). This way, I usually complete full unit in a few days. Or, if it is one of the bigger kits (Alarielle, Lord of Change, Bloodthirsters, etc.), you can build it over a few such "assembly sessions". Find the schedule that works for you (it does not need to be every day - it could be 30 - 35 minutes every other day) and stick to it. After a few weeks, you may easily assemble all of your models! Just last week, I have assembled 3 Kurnoth Hunters, 5 Tree-Revenants, Branchwych, 10 Chaos Warriors, 5 Chaos Knights and Chaos Lord on Karkadrak - all this during my son's afternoon naps Also, it is a good idea to kep your tools close: I usually pack my scalpel, cutters and glue in a small box and have it in my drawer, so I can easily find everything I need in one place. I have mentioned that I struggle with painting a lot more than with assembling. Because of this, I have set up some small goals for this year: I want to paint my 4 remaining Varanguard in order to finish an Everchosen army, and I want to try alternate colour scheme for the Sylvaneth Warcry warband. These are my primary goals for this year, when it comes to paining (and I keep them small on purpose, because I know what is realistic for me and what not). I know Sylvaneth should go fast ( because I have already painted over 3500 points of Sylvaneth ), but Varanguard are much harder to paint for me. However, I have several armies for both AOS and 40K and not all of them are fully painted. These unpainted armies are creating "psychological pressure" (at least in my case) because I see work that was started, but never finshed. And if there is a lot of unpainted models and limited amount of time, you start asking yourself questions like "How in the world am I going to paint all this?" or "Maybe it was a mistake to buy all these things?". If you can afford it, find someone who can paint your armies for you - that saved me a lot of time and it's a huge relief! And, when you know that some of your armies are fully painted, you can focus on models that you really enjoy painting (in my case, i enjoy painting AoS armies much more than 40K armies, so my Necrons and CSM were painted for me). Also, it really helps if you plan your purchases. It helped me a lot when I realized which armies I really like and what models I want to use in them. I sold everything else and focused purely on stuff that I really enjoy/want to play with.

  15. Here's a Tzeentch hero I want to use for the narrative campaign I'm writing at the moment. I have also ordered some extra bits to covert one of the Varanguard knights in order to have a custom miniature. The cost of the hero is 20DP (or 200 points).
  16. Thanks, man! This year I will try to paint minis in a small, "timeboxed" sessions and see how it goes. I've set up some painting goals for this year, so I'll post how it goes Oh, and the little guy (he's year and a half old now) seems to be very interested in some of his dad's "toys", so who knows, maybe he becomes a little hobbyist
  17. I don’t collect Lumineth Realm-lords, but I don’t think they are ugly. I like Teclis, Eltharion and Battle-cattle a lot, and I think the design of the entire army is cohesive (I wish if it was even more extreme). In my opinion, part of the problem with people disliking the models comes from either sticking to the idea that they should be similar (or equivalent) to the High Elves of the Old World (which they are not) or that these models are not “Elvish” enough (because some units are using hammers, and not spears/halberds/swords and Elves also don’t hang out with giant cows). I personally heard this complaint about the weapons from people that I usually play with - it seems that they have a very specific view on how an Elf should fight (probably based on how Elves were described in other games and fantasy literature). Personally, I don’t mind GW trying something new when it comes to fantasy stereotypes.

  20. This year was not the best one when it comes to hobby. I had much less spare time - I became a parent in 2019, started worked exclusively from home from march onwards and went trough two job changes (one being in the middle of the lockdown). I spent majority of my time with my family, and spare time that I had, I used for working out and reading. So, hobby related stuff in 2020: - painted Archaon - painted 2 out of 6 varanguard - played 4 games of AoS - tried Warcry for the first time (and liked it a lot) - built small Tzeentch Arcanites army for Warcry - sold my Blades of Khorne Army - gave away my Beasts of Chaos army to a friend - completed a small Idoneth Deepkin Army - completed a small Chaos space Marines army - expanded my Adeptus Custodes army a bit more - started blogging about my hobbies again
