Apparently GW's gotten rid of all it's external 40k playtesters (according to Honest Wargamer).

Not a big surprise considering how many leaks the ship was springing, seems like it was inevitable. Be interesting to see what happens on the AoS/30k/Specialist side of things.

maybe this also because the whole system didn't seem to provide much value, considering how (until recently) every new codex was more out of whack than the previous one and so on

There were even hushed whispers of hope that maybe, just maybe, they're considering a proper internal testing team. But do not speak this is aloud, anything more than a whisper will destroy the idea of a balanced 40k. It is so fragile!

I'd love for both Systems to get a seperate Group of Playtesters that doesn't look at balance, but at if a rule, Warscroll or Mechanic is fun for BOTH PLAYERS or if one player would feel like it's BS that such a rule exists. :)

One can hope.

Little did he know that a month later GW would introduce an "Exodia"-Mechanic into Age of Sigmar.

It's going to be very interesting to see how things develop for AoS in particular. I've no idea what kind of a boss Jervis Johnson was but there can be no doubt that he cast a very long shadow. It may well have been quite hard to disagree with him, especially for the playtesters.

The new boss Mathew Rose is a former Ubisoft employee who hasn't come up through the ranks of GW. I feel like an outside perspective is what GW needs and if the recent changes are anything to go by they're already having an impact.

4th edition will be the first version of AoS that hasn't had Jervis in charge. Even Warcry was a joint effort between Jervis and Sam Pearson. I'm very curious to see how it turns out.

When did Mathew Rose take over?

I am asking to predict at which point we might see the first Battletomes that were written under his supervision.

As a fellow Game Developer I am having high hopes that he might be good fir the game (that is without researching which games he‘s worked on in the past).

A quick Google tells me he started last October so he might have had a hand in some of the autumn battletomes but given the delays we might not see anything overseen by him until next year. He probably didn't have much to do with the current ghb but the faq was  overseen by him.

Im incredibly excited to see how the Lore starts to evolve. I think we need a new Broken Realms series and soon.

With a few exceptions the AoS playtesters are all solid players and decent humans. They aren't miracle workers though and ultimately work with what GW give them.

Personal perspective, one issue is that some factions have historically been strong on the competitive scene and some playtesters may be more invested in those. For instance, DoK and Seraphon have been top end for most of the lifespan of competitive aos. Most top end tournament players own one or both of these armies, even if they don't play them all the time.

Anyway, I'm not convinced an internal playtesting team would do a better job for AoS. If it was up to me (and money no issue) I'd have an internal and external team, like how videogames have external testers.

My guess is a full space hulk reveal, warcry 2.0, new underworlds warband, something silly for blood bowl, and as always a necromunda warband that will make me call my bank plan on getting into the game and promptly forgetting exists until the next Necromunda reveal.

That's because GW wasn't listening to the feedback at all.

The reason for the increased frequency of leaks was because a lot of the playtesters were getting frustrated and pissed off with things.

So they leaked stuff which propted GW get rid of them completely so now they have absolutely zero input?

Seems like a stupid move on their part.

I feel that if they're gonna have playtesters they need to lsiten.  40k already IMHO went south by essentially making ITC the game, since ITC was IMHO a huge mistake.

One might think that the ITC takeover happened BECAUSE they were listening... to the ultra involved ITC crowd. This is a common issue with Community management: it is easy to listen to the hardcore players, because they are most available ( and often enough also more vocal about their ideas/wishes, not to say noisy), but they are only a minority of the playerbase.

Less involved ones will just silently drift away when their expectations are not met. So how do you get the attention ( both as a game and for feedback) of someone who hardly finds the time for the hobby in the first place?

I’m almost positive we will see something similar at the end of this edition. How they used it to progress the story, drop new models and set up the new Kruleboyz army was awesome. I’ve heard that it will set up Chaos Dwarves and I’ve heard it will set up Malerion. Which, if any of those rumors are true… who knows

Well with GW they don’t really have an open online forum for people to go and discuss stuff with them and for them to discuss stuff back with the community. It already a closed system to begin with and it seems they want to dictate what they want to do internally.

at best it through their surveys and emails which are limited interaction but the only form they have.

the only other thing you can do is talk to your local GW store managers since they do have regular communication with the HQ and can express concerns and other stuff, but that if you are in good terms with them.

Is it weird that the thing that is making me most excited for Warcry 2.0 is seeing the wild Ghurish terrain? I have a feeling it will be similar to the Thondian expansion with some elements of Dawn Bringer terrain in the starter set.

Also Warcry is super fun so I hope that the rules are fairly consistent with the current edition. Hopefully a little more focus on monsters and maybe terrain interactions. I also hope the rules are more streamlines as I feel like I am several expansions behind and missing some key content currently.

Mate I completely agree. Im gunna lower my expectations and assume that a Destruction Warband will not be in the starter and that itll be Chaos Vs Chaos. So I too am incredibly hyped to see some Ghurish Jungle themed terrain!!

Well..... No Adeptus Titanicus... Again

I am sad

And no Aeronautica.  Even though i never played any of them i honestly hoped they could reach the bloodbowl Level of success (1 new Team per quarter. No more, No less xD).

While i am at it: anyone got some guesses about the Bloodbowl team?

We are in the realm of "could be anything, really". Hoping for Amazons or Vampires but could live with something never seen... Like Slaanesh or a troll team.
