Popular Post Greasygeek
updated September 2020: Please note that this originl post is more than 18 month old but as I expand my Death armies, add stuff to the Nighthaunts and build Shyish stuff, its ll added here. So last saturday about 5 in the afternoon I did it I finally reached a fully painted 2000pt army. I gotta say this was a personal goal I have been wanting to do ever since I was a teenager and now 15-20 years later I finally did it. Specially during my teen years but also as an adult have I started painting at least 10 different armies, but until now I have never completed one not even close. So to be honest I kinda expected a crowd giving me a standing ovation, maybe a small brassband playing: ‘we are the champions’ while someone important held a speach for me but non of that happend. Though my wife to be gave me a: “oh thats nice”, when I ran screaming with my t-shirt over my head and victory signs in the air in circles in our livingroom celebrating like some famous athtlete who just won the superbowlchampionsleaguesomethingsomething. Anyway so while I wait for Nike to contact me on some sponsor deals I thought it would be fun to hear from those of you who like me are grown ups with kids/jobs/lives that allows for very little time to paint, how long does it take you to paint an army, how do you fight the evergrowing feeling of hopelessness when batchpainting large units? Whats the fastest you have painting for a descent result? and serioulsly Nike Ive already got the slogan for you. ’You can paint it’ TM. 😉 Edited September 24, 2020 by Greasygeek 48 6 4
Greyshadow
Hehe - yes, it’s a challenge. My goal is to get at least 40 minutes of painting done per week. Last week I got 50 minutes in, it took me nearly two years to get the monsters for Silver Tower done. I have just spent nearly a month base coating five Freeguild Archers! Focusing on Skirmish has made my slow rate much easier to bare. Edited April 30, 2019 by Greyshadow
EccentricCircle
Lets see some pictures then! More seriously, well done and may you paint many more!
Chikout
Congratulations. I've been working on the Nighthaunt half of soul wars since last July and I'm still not done. The combination of two young kids, a job , a dog who will tear the house to shreds if I don't walk her twice a day, colour blindness and a crippling addiction to having too many hobbies, all make getting through an army a bit of a challenge.

I managed to do two units of 10 in 14 days and I wasreally proud that I was able to in that short amount of time. My goal now is to reach about 3400pts with that same army within the anneversery day of AOS 2. Then the entire army will be done and though I will slowly contine painting on my Nurgle army I believe at the moment that I am done batchpaimtimg and after the final points I will paint only BLood Bowl teams, Skirmish crews and the like. Tzaangor Management
Congratulations! It's a great achievement to get an army fully painted and I must admit to some eyebrow raising t-shirt over the head celebrations whenever I finish. I don't have kids, or, truth be told, much of a life, so I do try and make time to paint once a day for at least 30 minutes and usually manage a little more. I never batch paint more than six models at a time, before rewarding myself with a character or cavalry model to spice things up a little and I've tended to paint fairly low model count armies. I finished 2,000 points of Stormcast in around 6 months and went on to paint up to 3,220 points of models, along with a few other bits and pieces, last year leaving just 3 Aetherwings, 10 Sequiters and 5 Evocators in my grey pile. In terms of a good finish fast, I'd recommend an airbrush, even if it's just to prime, zenithal highlight and get a base layer or two down. I got a fairly inexpensive one for Christmas and I reckon it's saving at least an hour per miniature. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, so I'll see how long it takes me to paint my next project, but so far so good. Also, let's see some pictures!

Kramer
Picture please! But congratulations!! that is a very respectable goal and time of completion! Well done! As for you questions. A frigate took me from May to two weeks ago. 1K DoK 1,5 month. But for me 1,5 is the sweet spot. And even pushing 1K to 1,5K starts to slow down a bit. So now it’s just Skirmish bands for new projects while I finish my backlog for the armies I do have. I hope to clean house before summer is done. Also for those of you asking for pictures: I will post some pictures however I suck at it so it will take a while. FYI: I have painted a Nighhaunt army and I began when AOS2 was released. So 8-9 month untill now. Next up is 40 Chainrasps and assuming I didn’t drown myself in a bottle of Nighthaunt Gloom to escape the emptiness my prize for enduring the rasps is Lady Olyender. Then Kurdoss and a few heroes and finally a Covernthrone which is gonna need a little conversions to make it more ghosty.
Justinbot
Congrats on finishing your army! I've also been slowly chipping away on finishing painting my first ever army. Because I want to paint every detail it's taking forever lol but that's ok as long as I'm making progress I figure I'll get to the end eventually. I powered through batch painting 10 tree revenants by telling myself I can start painting my Treelord when they're done 😆
The World Tree
The funny thing is once you finish one it is so easy to do more. The psychological burden is lifted.
Samanar
Unless you begin buying a new army before you finish painting the previous one. Oh well... 😕 2

Oh well... 😕 This I found actually helped me return. Once in a while a hit the wall and needed to paint something else of different colours and style. So I did a unit or a few minis depending on what it was and then it always send me right back to the Nighthaunts.

Nos
Can’t be sure but I genuinely think that of all the the number of people who regularly play Warhammer or 40k etc, it will be a minority who play with a fully painted one. It’s a big achievement, congrats!

Praecautus
Well done, it’s a great achievement and you are not the only one who had to wait 20 years to actually do it. I came back to GW after a 25 year hiatus after my nephew got into Sigmar About 3 years or so ago. I just loved the khorne models when I saw them and had to get that army. I painted about an hour a night about 5 times a week and ended up with ~4K of khorne ( lots of leaders) mortals and daemons. Took about 2 years and I’ll add to it with the new release. I have also been working on a deepkin army which is at 1300 points with the rest soon to be added. Through just a few hours week (mainly 9-10 in the eve post kids bedtimes), In the past 3 years I have painted up 4K khorne 1300 deepkin Hammerhal Spacehulk Gorechosen Working on rogue trader 2k seraphon with my son Would love to see some pics of your army

I found out that if I can go on with only 4-5 hours of sleep a few nights a week I might actually get some painting done. I mean my boys are 1,5 and 3,5 years old so not long ago 4 hours of sleep was a luxury anyway.
Lightbox
Congrats man! You are living my dream. I too hope one day to have a fully painted army. Though my issue is technically less of a time one and more of a motivation issue... and the fact I keep hopping between projects *sigh* Tbh I'd settle for a fully painted 1k army at the moment... I'm very terrible at this whole finishing projects thing Even my mordheim warbands never get finished. Anyway best of luck in future painting endeavours! I look forward to seeing pictures and one day hope to join you in the painting hall of fame that only those with at least 1 finished 2000 point army can join. Greasygeek
So yeah.. my guess is that probably very few people will see these images. However as promissed back in march here is the finished army. At the moment it has reached 2880pt about to be 3100pt once I finish my Harbingers. Next up is Kurdoss, a Coven Throne, a Cairn Wraith and at some point a Knight of Shroud on a steed. Sleboda
Congrats! I'm retired, have a fully dedicated hobby room, have pretty much zero obligations to the world ... And the last army I painted fully to at least 2000 points was my third Tomb Kings army about 5 years ago. Sad. Point is, you are a champion! 🙂
Greyshadow
Wow - they look fantastic. The purple/pink tones look brilliant and the eerie glow effect looks tops. Nice work! Edited April 30, 2019 by Greyshadow
