I’ve had lots of frosting over the years (before I even knew what it was), it’s an awful feeling. 😕 If you prefer Citadel/don’t have an airbrush there are Citadel brush-on varnishes too - Stormshield (matt) and Ardcoat (gloss), there’s a short GW video about using them on YouTube. I’m just beginning to look at them myself, it’s pretty humid here in Ireland so spraying’s often risky. Since I’m a slow painter anyway I reckon the extra varnish time won’t add up to much! 😅

Is that just space wolves grey over grey seer? Looks great! Only thing to consider is whether the bumpy skin helps give it definition in a way that you won’t get on the smoother aelf skin.

Great work on the patterned skin!!

If that’s a fanatic clinging on underneath that’s inspired! 😄 -
If you go out in the woods today... An 8112 PLOG
Tommy replied to Mirage8112's topic in Painting and Modelling
Actually you just reminded me of the Isharann Tidecaster as well, who has a similar neckcloth, interestingly. It’s cool that her eyes are closed, but there’s an overall flatness to her expression, or something. I don’t know if you’ve come across David Soper’s work (Golden Demon winner, does workshops too) but he got great results using strong shading like you did here - https://www.puttyandpaint.com/projects/22881 (Me? I just did a head swap! 😄) -

I’ve often found Alarielle’s face to be a tiny bit waxy or wooden in some way I can’t quite put my finger on, but your paint job has brought her completely to life. Amazing work! 🙂 -
Working my way through base coating the Dreadfane sequitors, very flat-looking still, but quite happy with the colours so far 🙂

Converting female chaos models
Tommy replied to Seraphina of the Seraphim's topic in Painting and Modelling
Nice project! 🙂 Have you looked at the WarCry Chaos warbands at all? Most of those have at least a few female models, and could perhaps work well as Marauders (on foot at least), Blood Reavers etc. For heavily armoured models like Chaos Warriors some head swaps using unhelmeted female heads could reinforce the impression of more females generally (if you like the punk aesthetic Forge World have a set of Escher heads that might be worth considering - https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-IE/Escher-Heads-Upgrade-Set-2019 - unfortunately they’re a bit Cyberpunk but it’s AoS so it could still work!). There are probably loads of non-GW female head sets out there too but I’m not so familiar with those. Hero-wise you might be sorted already but FWIW I’ve thought before that the Chaos Lord on Karkadrak could look great with a female head as well!- 3 replies

I thought the 3D print’s lower quality (I assume it’s lower anyway?) might show through but that’s a great end result! 👍

You might be right... 😁 Well, it’s likely a couple months off anyway as I’ve some other stuff lined up first, but if I do give the Escher gals a try I’ll be sure to post back here with the results. Cypher Lords could be a great approach actually! 👍

I’ve very similar feelings about the Tzeentch range to you folks, @Ggom and @Lowki - lesser daemon models are a bit meh (except Screamers actually, love those!), Kairic Acolytes are awesome but need some female models, Corvus Cabal seem a perfect fit for Tzeentch, and the Lord of Change is awesome! 🙂 I suspect the Acolytes kit was sculpted just before GW started working to improve female representation in their kits, things have been much better in the last few years. I have 10 males painted and I’m wondering what might be a good base kit for 10 females... Witch Elves are too skimpy so I’m wondering if Escher gangers with regular masked Kairic heads would work. 🤔

It was two or three months ago I pledged to get just an Ogroid Thaumaturge done and didn’t quite make it, but I’ve been plugging away since then and completed both it and a Tzaangor Shaman. First finished models in ages!

Thanks so much for all the details! 🙏

These are gorgeous! 😍 Can I ask what recipe you used?

I won’t be painting a banner myself but fair play for using your models to make make this statement. All these things help to make a difference - no matter how small they might be by themselves they all add up to something bigger.

Great effect on the shield! So do you mostly use washes to let the shading come through?

Personally I think the driver looks cool and unique! 🙂

Wonderful and distinctive colour scheme! 🙂

Lovely stuff! The bell is really dynamic!

The highlights look good! For the belts, perhaps you could try edge highlighting them with very thin blue lines... as if they’re reflecting the blueness?

@Macarian Cool idea! I know it’s more expensive than sculpting something yourself (which I can give no advice whatsoever on!! 😁) but there’s a fire-breathing Slaves to Darkness endless spell that might work really well for this... https://www.games-workshop.com/en-IE/Endless-Spells-Slaves-To-Darkness-2019
