The Rumour Thread

There was a leak of a new Warcry starter set with underworlds bands earlier this year (Stormcast+another that I don't remember), and it needs some terrain if it should be Warcry.

Of course they could just put some old terrain spruce in it and call it a day, but there is a chance of new terrain at least.

That starter set has already been officially shown off. dSwfrkHqpU6s0Ge3.jpg.0a4672bed4272c50bd13303b9c0b8c2b.jpg

It does have new scenery but it doesn't match the rumour engine. As for the new warbands, they haven't said anything about scenery one way or the other.

That said I think the rumour engine is new Kruleboyz. It really is extremely similar to the Dominion kits.

Regarding Cities, we know there at least six new warscrolls to see. In the old book the steamtank was one warscroll with an option for a commander but in the app it's two warscrolls. The luminark and Hurricanum are the same. That means there could be as many as 10 warscrolls left to show.

With no reveal this week, it seems likely that they are saving some of the kits to show off in a preview show which will probably be Nova at the end of August. Unfortunately that means the earliest pre-order for the cities box will be the first weekend in September.

I also think this is the most realistic scenario. It would follow the Seraphon release model pretty closely: One initial big preview, then a bi-weekly drip feed of units, and another final big preview before the release of the launch box.

Sucks, I was hoping we'd get the new battletome in August. I thought there was a chance they would shorten their hype cycle, since we have been aware of the Cities revamp for such a long time. Can't say they are not sticking to the release timeline they showed off, though.

Wasn't this the Stormcast vs Crimson Court that was officially announced recently? With graveyard terrain.

Edit: Nevermind, I was beaten to the punch!

That's what GW wants us to think. Similar to Yndrasta, it will be scenic base for updated Neave Blacktalon.

As far as I'm concerned, there's still a chance that we'll have a preview article with all the remaining new minis in a few weeks' time, which would allow  army set to be released before the end of August.

But perhaps we'll have a reveal next monday, every fortnight, with final reveals at Nova Open and an early September release.

As much as I would love it to be a Kruleboyz rumour engine, the similarity in terrain is in this case insufficient to correctly identify it. For example Yndrasta of SCE is on the same type of base. And isn’t elaborate terrain more of a WHU thing that AoS?

It’s tricky, it’s only associated with the SCE that came out through Dominion. Not all Kruleboys have this kind of base detail but some outside of the Dominion release do.

That said, I agree that this level of basing could indicate WHU and shouldn’t necessarily be tied just to a mainline AoS Kruleboys release.

Remember that there is also Gen Con 2023 from 3rd to 6th of august .

Two years ago we had a lot of reveals Get Ready For a Grand Host of Announcements From Gen Con 2021 - Warhammer Community (warhammer-community.com)

Could also indicate that they are getting ready to release new Kruleboyz/Stormcast that were designed at the same time as the Dominion models but not previously put into production. I can't prove it, but I have a feeling that this is a thing that sometimes happens with commemorative models.

Gen Con reveals have been pretty all over the place in terms of happening or not. Last one (as you said) was 2 years ago, then one in 2019.
They have also been primarily specialist games focused (with the exception of the Black Templars Army Set in 2021).

If we are getting a preview event there, I'd expect the announcement either this or next Sunday, although imho I expect the next show to be for Nova. If it happens, I think the chances of a big Cities reveal are pretty high though!

I think we will get one but the with the main focus on Legions Imperialis. As you said its primarily specialist games and if they stick to alternating between Horus Heresy and Legions Imperialis there are only four Thursdays left to show stuff for LI which doesn't seem enough for the launch wave. They could reveal more per Thursday than I expect but I think the more likely option is showing a bunch of stuff at GenCon

Just noticed this banner looking thing in the background of the new Cities art
image.png.c7a3ff9ac54c68f31c45df564ac6e376.png

Woodwork on the top around the skull looks similar to the throne on the new Manticore and probably War Altar 3d render bits

My guess would be that it's for the new Greatsword equivalent elite infantry/Lumineth style banner hero.

Well if the last one was on 2021 and them on 2019 it would make sense to expect another one this year. It would make sense to expect the reveal of the next warcry season boxes in it, has they still have to show us 3 warbands and I expect 2 of them will come in a duel box similar to the ones in the last season.

Good catch! I think chances are high that this is something. GW has been pretty careful to keep all representations of their miniatures in official art "on model". They don't generally have it feature stuff that is not based on anything.

An army standard bearer would be cool to have.

Undoubtedly, Peachy from the Painting Phase claims the entire Primaris Spacemarine range up until Leviathan was designed at the same time, and those models were released over the course of 5 years. There are some updated Stormcast and new Krule lads waiting in the wings.

I feel like the entire Fyreslayer range was designed similarly but each release is just another concept art for another Foot hero 😢

The lack of Fyreslayers is astounding. AFAIK there hasn't been a single new unit since the army was first released. There's been a few heroes and the magmadroth is cool, but it's one of the few armies without a massive centerpiece model and so little variety. I really hope there's a Fyreslayers warcry band but as different from normal slayers as Rotmire Creed for Nurgle or Jade Obelisks for Tzeentch so it's more exciting to think about Fyreslayer stories

I'd like if 4th edition was the time where the 1st edition armies get a second wave of models. It doesn't need to be big, but at least give them something... As long as it's not a foot hero. Something similar to what Sylvaneth/Nighthaunt got this edition. To me, the Nurgle and Fyreslayer hero in Dawnbringers is a good sign of that. Both seem to tease something bigger on the horizon.

If Nurgle and FS get some attention next edition, I hope some of the other 1st ed armies, especially Tzeentch, Idoneth and Kharadron get some too.

I keep imagining the idea of the Fyreslayer lodges with the most Ur-Gold summoning a flame wreathed avatar of Grimnir that can go absolutely wild on the battlefield. I am imagining a massive Duardin god erupting from the ground. This will divid the Orthodox Fyreslayers with their Avatars from the Reformists that see Gotrek as Grimnir incarnate.

We also need a Magmacanon that taps into lava veins to belch forth destruction. Alongside Magmadroth Cavalry I would love a Magmadroth Chariot.

I could have sworn during the Warhammer Fest presentation they said that they weren't doing the "2 Warbands + Terrain" sets for Warcry anymore.

//

Fake edit: while I couldn't find the original stream, this Goonhammer article from the time notes, "Following the new starter, Warcry will move to a release model based on releasing individual faction boxes, not big boxed sets."

//

Of course, I suppose they could do new Warcry terrain sets via independent release. But they're not doing Heart of Ghur, Sundered Fate, Bloodhunt, Nightmare Quest type boxes with new terrain.

I hope this so much. So many armies just lack diversity in their own roster. Is it really too much to ask for;

- 2 kinds of standard units (Box of 10

- 1 Elite Unit (Box of 3)

- 1 fast or cavalry unit (Box of 5)

- 1 centerpiece

- 1 unique for the army model

Honestly, my main hope for the inevitable Skaven relaunch is that they could feasibly do this for each different clan not too trivially. Make a Grand Order Vermins to spice things up

Lets put your equation to the test:
- Infernal Guard (Blunderbuss or Greataxe) and Hobgrots
-Chaos Trogg Thralls
- Bull Centaur
-Lammasu/Bull Taurus
- Hellcanon

Might need room for a generic hero or two but otherwise your math checks out.
