Xil
Yeah, I know they are in a bad spot, he really likes the look of them tho. I play the DoK and Sylvaneth btw and I try not to play hard stuff and also use the weaker temples like Draichi Ganeth. Currently he has the Battleforce I think and some extra: 1 Gunhauler 1 Frigate 2x 10 Arkanaught Battleline 1x Hero with hammer 3x Skywardens 1x Khemist (and the Battletome are still getting delivered, package was lost but GW replaced it)

I don't play the faction myself, but a friend just started it and so far he lost 5 battles of 5. I don't want him to lose interest just after 3 weeks He had 2 Battles VS DoK, 2 vs Nighthaunts and 1 vs Sylvaneth. The Sylvaneth match was surprisingly close. Thanks https://aosshorts.com/kharadron-overlords-tactics/ This could be pretty helpful?
Reuben Parker
Really he needs more stuff even at low points he probably wants at least 20 arkanaut in one unit then another 10 for battleline with 6 / 3 skyhooks and a unit of 6 riggers with saws plus khemist. He could run that plus his frigate for exactly 1k. Maybe proxy models so he can test it. Army will be 2 drop giving him control of who goes first. Having some good shooting and riggers can be a counter charge unit.

The good news is that for me KO always performs better at lower points. Probably because there is less redundancy in opposing armies. In my mind KO has a couple of strengths and you just fit in what fits you and is possible at the points your playing. 1. Deepstriking a boat turn one. Not only to claim objectives but also for different firing lanes (vs sylvaneth for example). It forces your opponent to redirect forces to it. (The zilfin boat artefact) 1a. Personally I’m becoming more and more convinced of using thunderers for this. Their flee ability is super helpful in this role and as someone suggested in this thread at lower points they don’t really need a khemist 2. Bigger squads of arkanauts with skyhooks and a khemist. With the +1 vs heroes and monsters, high rend, multiple damage and 24” range it’s a very good option for first dismantling synergies and then just plain damage. (Also helps to have at least one unit with 20+ models for objective I find) 3. Riggers buffed by a khemist. It’s a great counter charge unit. But for me it requires a khemist otherwise they don’t do enough. These three things I usually try to build around all three will be close to impossible at 1K. But just pick two and see how it goes (proxy just to get a feel for it without spending the money). My last list was: Khemist, 20 arkanauts, 10 arkanauts, 10 thunderers, frigate. Ps. Somebody here had the fun suggestion of using dwarf warriors as a screen and placing skywardens 2” behind them so when the screen is charged they can activate as well.
Absolution black
Thanks everyone for their earlier replies, I will continue with the plan to base my Sky fleet out of Ulgu! Related to this project does anyone know where I can get suitably scaled Raven/crow miniatures both in flight and standing?
DavionStar
@Xil if I may I'd like to put in my two cents for your friend's list. 1) Get rid of the Gunhauler. I love the model too but in a 1k list it is just not worth the points. It can't ferry troops and doesn't have the most reliable damage, and kinda just acts as a not so great meat shield. 2) Right now I'd honestly say go Riggers over Wardens. Their damage is just more reliable and even a group of 3 saws unbuffed is scary. But I've never tried Wardens myself so who knows. 3) Other than that, fill in the gap the Gunhauler left with Dispossessed warriors or more Company models. Or even Thunderers. The list needs more bodies on the field. And help tell your friend to not lose heart! KO can do well with the right build in the right hands. We're in a janky spot right now, but hopefully we'll get a new battletome soon that irons out the army a little.
GlanceOnASix
Well boys, I'm taking my KO to an event in a weekend from now, going to give it its last run till we get another book. List feels alright, but wanted to share it. KO Urbaz- Chamon No Trading Brokk Kemist - General, Stickler for the code (the turn 1 battleshock into a 1 article), Ignax Scales Kemist - Thermalrider Cloak Knight Incantor 40 Arknaughts, Skyhooks 10 Arknaughts, Skyhooks 10 Arknaughts, Skyhooks 9 Endrinriggers 3 Drillcannons 5 Evocators Staffs Having the double buff makes the skyhook units better than switching to drill cannons, the thermal Kemist and Brokk are there to try to be able to get on objectives that heros or artifact weilding heros need to be on, and the Urbaz once per game trick has always been my favorite part of running 40 Arknaughts.
Kubrick54
Anyone running a Grundstock Escort Wing? Kind of want to do something different with the KO. I know it's not the most competitive build but i'd like to run it as thursday night friendly list kinda deal. Here is what I had in mind: Leaders: Aether-Khemyst NavigatorBattleline: 2X10 Arkanauts with 3 skyhooks 1X10 Arkanauts with 3 Volley guns (thats what I have) Other: 15 Thunderers with rifles 6 Skywardens with 2 volley guns and 2 drill guns War machines: Frigate 3X Gunhaulers Battalion: Grundstock Escort Wing Artifacts and command trait are TBD. I usually play Thryng with a more standard list (Lots of riggers and Ironclad) but I'm looking at the two usual suspects (Morhnar and Zilfin) for this list. Any input or suggestions? Barkanaut
Only 4 more tomes this year and 1 for each GA. The odds of us getting anything is now incredibly unlikely. So here is to another year of suck my brothers. I’m getting some seriously bad vibes about our armies future and GW supporting or even acknowledging its problems.

Ointagru
It's a nice list for friendly games, I like the variety of models. If you find it's not strong enough, you could drop the frigate and add 20 more arkanauts (a unit of 30 arkanauts with 9 skyhooks is dangerous when boosted by the khemist). WatcherintheWater
@Mordread I think that looks like a fun list! Personally I like Endrinriggers more than Thunderers, but I know some people have had good success with both. If you eventually want to make the list stronger, I would pick either one unit of Arkanauts with Skyhooks, the Endrinriggers, or the Thunderers, and increase the size of that unit. That will help you get the most out of your Khemist buff, which works best on big units. Since you have two ships, I would recommend trying Barak Zilphin. That lets you deep strike one of them, and means that they always running 6". If you put your Admiral on a ship they can run and shoot which makes you really mobile. Re-rolling 1s to hit and wound against flyers is also great, but somewhat situational. I know people say that Overlords are in a bad spot, but they are totally fine for casual play. Also, the new General's Handbook comes out sometime in the next few months, which will probably change points for a lot of units. Magister
I'm pretty new but really interested in Kharadron. I keep reading they have problems and I was curious what those are before I jump in. Reading the forum I get the impression they are fragile, have many overpriced units, and their sky boats are too expensive with not enough firepower. Do you expect the General's handbook to fix them significantly? I was probably going to wait for the handbook, just wanted to know what I'm sailing into
Beliman
We are part of the Lethisian Defenders army!!! After reading the preview, a new army mixing some Order races ( Stormcast Eternals, Idoneth Deepkin, Kharadron verlords, Fyreslayers and Excelsior Warpriests) with their own allegiance abilities, artefacts, prayers... I cannot wait to see more!!!

Kharadrons are very hard to master, and he fought one of the strongest army of the game, an army that ignore rend (which is a hard counter to the biggest kharadron's strenght) and a army that block line of sight and mess with shooting. It would have been impressive to see him winning

I was probably going to wait for the handbook, just wanted to know what I'm sailing into You got a lot of it right on with the fragile units and boats. KO also really struggle in scenarios where wizards/artifact heroes capture objectives or count as 20 models, since we don't have magic (short of allies), and our heroes are mostly move 4 & 5 or 6 wound models. And while KO shooting can be devastating, a lot of it has only short or medium range. Tough to guess what the next GHB will bring. Some points reductions and maybe some battleline if options could go a long way towards fixing things. I'd love to see all the boats, Skywardens, Admirals, Navigators, and Endrinmasters all drop in cost. All that said, they are not in such bad shape for anyone playing casual games, and even in tournaments, I think there are some lists that can do well.
