Yes, but if I were to trust the rumours (which I don't) GW would be planning to revamp clanrats and stormvermins, which would make this enough of a revamp to justify renaming a faction of skavens for TOW. Why not do it then? Studio rivalry?

I’m not certain what you mean by that.

skaven are so incredible mad beings that they pretty much fit into both settings.  Also they have announced that skaven will be a legacy faction (thankfully that means pretty much nothing for non gw tournaments and so on) but at least in the perspective of aos yes I do believe that would mean skaven are one of the official aos factions, and as for a point of money making, I think gw has a lot more success updating units that really look out dated. Stormvermins and clanrats just don’t, Epsecially not in the quantity they where taken in 2.0 and are meant to be taken for lore reasons.

and as for rivalry…. There probably is some there, but I’m not working for the company so its mostly just me guessing.

Skaven are a legacy faction in ToW so not supported beside a pdf legacy armylist which is not even legal in tournaments.

So Skaven is indeed AoS only faction  : Aos-sification incoming ! 🐭

AoS studio is big probably formed by tens peole , Tow has a small team inside the specialist studio : It can not really be a rivalry between them.

Uhhh. I want to do it at some point as well. I am officially jealous!

Once I get some actual paint of my terrain and not just white primer I'll post some pics.  I was coming to a close with troops just had one squad of mortek left and the wife bought me the Praetorian spearhead.  So now I'm back to square one.  I'll be just over 6k in obr once that's done though.  And I'm looking for another crawler as time permits

Im not talking on what has happened, but why. Why not use then your old models (if the whole Seb Perbet línea is getting redesigns) for a tow suported army, revamped with a new name, and then keep skavens, now with 90% totally new minis, as an AoS faction like what It seems theyre doing with beastmen? (Alltho, that last part is admitedly pure guessing)

ToW team has small capabilities to support a whole game , That's why they decide to focus only on geographic old world factions and bring back mostly old miniatures

And if you see they try to divide as much as possible AoS and ToW miniature's ranges : this is the way ! ;)

Nobody knows for sure, but people have been speculating that since the specialist games studio and the main studio are separate studios within GW that are in internal competition, there is a desire to have a separation between AoS and TOW model ranges as much as possible in order to track the success of both systems.

"As much as possible" is doing a bit of work in that sentence, though. It explains why Chaos Warriors are in TOW even though their models are in AoS as Slaves to Darkness, because you can't just write chaos out of the narrative for TOW given the setting. And the theory will only fully be confirmed if Beasts of Chaos actually get an AoS reboot.

Another reason is that TOW very likely needed to be a more limited scale game in order to be greenlit at all. GW is already having trouble keeping models in stock for all its AOS and 40k lines. Bringing back more old model lines for TOW will definitely put even more stress on their production capacity. Likewise, the specialist games studio might not have the capacity to properly support more than the 9 core armies with narrative content, rules and models.

Ultimately, we don't know what prompted the decision to have only a few core factions for The Old World, but we can at least imagine some explanations that make sense from a business point of view.

I'd figure it's because it keeps it possible to keep the team small and organised?

ToW was a gamble, they axed the setting and now returned it in a drip feed style, I think that now the starting boxes have sold well they might upscale a bit

But the more logical thing is to keep a small beginning plan (6 or so factions) roll it out and then see what happens, 1 selling moment is to small of a sample size to really gauge interests.

I think if ToW survives it's first 3 years with a lot of enthousiasm it'll expand

The unreleased Bretonnian Lord on Foot mentioned in an older article is coming to MTO, along with some other stuff.

They also implied some other models - like the below Games Day Exalted Champion - may be coming back too.

We'll also be finding out what the next returning army is this weekend.

We’ve also got some further exciting reveals this week. Those lucky enough to attend the Warhammer: The Old World launch event at Warhammer World in Nottingham this weekend will get the first look at the next army due for release! And for those who can’t make it to Nottingham, we’ll have the details here on Warhammer Community.

If I read the article correctly, this is (probably) not a MTO mini, but a permanent addition to the Bretonnia range. Could work as an alternate Marshal with Relic-Envoy or Arch-Knight, and, uhh, Mascot-Gargoylian? (he even has the same paper seals as Cities!)

And seems like I'll soon know what new/old Dispossessed/Gits I will be able to add to my Cities/Gloomspite collection...

It should have stayed unreleased. Not a fan of Bretonnian Lord Jesus on foot.

The jesus style is totally fine but I'd put sunglasses on the dude. His eye region is definitely weird. I'd use other words to describe it usually. 😇

I love that they are releasing what was (until now) a "lost model". That alone is a great.

The model itself, however, is definitely quite bad by current standards. Arguably not that great by 2008 standards. If I wanted to use him, I'd headswap him for sure.

Might need to get him for my Cities army now! Might need to paint that grailhelm as a Folgers tin for Donny.

is there a list of lost models?

I'd be really interested to see what has been lost to history

That link made me wish they'd make a official AOS siege mode and fortification.  And a new AOS mighty empires especially if it was both a path to glory "map" and it's own mini game.
