Good article.
I'm as guilty as others for not rebasing my old armies. I have rebased bits and pieces of my empire army (this was a serious force of will as the basing was some of the best I've done), parts of my wood elves/wanderers, and some of my slaves to darkness and some of my High Elves. I find that I have rebased the models that might be useful, and then older or compendium stuff has stayed on squares. What I actually think is that I should sell some of the models on squares as I think there will be people who will get a lot more use from the models than me. I can't see empire knights ever being used and I have two big units of ten so these might as well go to some one who will actually use them.

I'm going to try and track it daily, although not update every day.
I want to do 365 models. I reckon its possible. I'll be sure to count any terrain I do too!
At the moment the updates would be - Tuesday: very sick, Wednesday: not quite as sick, Thursday: now got a stupid cough etc etc
I'll probably have recovered just in time to go back to work!

I agree with @Dave Fraser
Those Arkanought troopers and the Chemist have come out really well. The blue colour scheme for the overalls is excellent. The models look very detailed from the shots you've posted - you've down a great job getting them finished to such a consistent standard.

I like your honesty in this Dave. I could do with some of that! I have brettonian and dwarf armies that are complete but could just be sold off. I also have a bunch of Models that are still on squares that could be sold or rebased.
I like the sounds of your challenges. Be good to see another seraphon army out and about, and I'm sure the Deathlords will be cool. Painting big monsters is always the most fun!

Those are some very nice models there!
I'll be the first to point out the score: Need 4; Want 0. That is to say, you said you 'needed' to work on those models, not you 'wanted' to work on those models. This may seem like a crazy opinion, but since this is a hobby and not a job, you need to find something you want to work on. Burnout happens, and back to back projects don't help.
My advice: Don't start another 'Need' project after you finish this one. Push yourself to get it done, finish it, bask in it's awe, gain those Achievement Points of life. Then sit down with something fun. Something you have wanted to do (Like that one army you wanted to start last year, but couldn't because you were building terrain). If you get bored, or a different 'Need' Project shows up, you can quit halfway and it not feel too nagging in the back of your mind.
Good Luck!
Thanks
I like your thinking on 'need vs want'
I'll have to think about how I phrase things! I certainly 'needed' to do the warhammer achievements terrain, but you're right about everything else. I could easily have done other things. I certainly didn't want to work on anything for a little while, but when I got back into painting I didn't really have anything that really inspired me. However the new Nurgle models that have been shown on the Warhammer Community blog have certainly got me wanting to drop some of my Tzeentch plans and get cracking on some of the Nurgle models I have assembled but not painted yet.
We'll see how 2018progresses

Great effort still mate. The variety of things you get done always amazes me. I'll be doing a review of my 2017 goals at some point - it was pretty much an unmitigated disaster!

Hey, I was browsing your gallery and came across this mini. Great job first of all, but what colours did you use to accomplish that warm tone on the skull on the head of the shaman? It looks really nice and I may want to try it out! Keep up the amazing work, your minis are fantastic!
It was based with Zandri dust and then washed with sepia. Almost all my highlighting is done with Palyd Wych flesh, but I tend to keep it very watered down so that it stays fairly transparent. You can layer it all up easily though.

That is a strong colour scheme. Great job. I have an ironclad to paint so seeing finished ships gives me some real inspiration.

Give Archaon Treacherous Bond and it might work out ok ?
Yeah, I should have tried that. He got smashed up by some flying big stabba dudes. It was a bit of an army mismatch though.

I was fortunate enough to pick up Gold when I entered at Warhammer World a couple of years ago so I know what a challenge it can be to get an army and display done, especially if you are defending an award you won last year! Best of luck. Do you have any photos of the army that you did last year?
I can't believe you are giving yourself only a month to do it though! I'm annoyed I can't enter again this year, but all my scenery will be at Blood and Glory so I can't even drop a display off for the weekend.

Having a Freeguild Army myself with a lot o the units you have talked about I found this nice and informative. I should really get mine all rebased so that I can play> I'm looking forward to using the General on Griffon as I never got to use him in during the End Times of 8th Edition Warhammer. Its a shame the Demigryph Knights don't do much - I have nine of these that I would really like to use again. Good luck in your tournament.

These are great - my only critique is the basing - its very much in the Games Workshop style, but on such large models I think there is so much more you could do to add interest, particularly now with the creeping vines and skull packs, as well as all of the different tufts and grasses that are available.
In terms of the painting I think that you have clearly got the hang of highlighting and blending effectively, but now you need to consider colour choice and position more. For example on the Treelord you can create a much more effective composition by repetition of the spot colours in more areas. As an example above you could use the ice blue from the loin cloth on the claws, head dress and ends of the spirals on the staff. Hopefully this will give you some ideas for your next army

Thats a great little comparison. You've made some massive strides with your painting. The glade guard looks excellent!

This is a great write up Nico. I'm also very impressed with the army. Its looking extremely Tzeentchian with all the colours! Do you have some photos of Kairos on the clock?
I've been considering a Fatesworn Warband army for Sheffield next year, although I suspect that it won't be quite up to the standard of yours - I'm hoping to have Archaon lead it as he hasn't had a run out for a while.

Cool battleplan. What is blood sacrifice points? It's a bit unclear. Do you earn one for each enemy unit slain?
Grimbok
You do - it's detailed in the main rules pack. Basically you get 1 for every one of your units that dies, and 2 for each unit you kill.

At fist I thought you had used the 40K Promethium Pipes. The Hirst Arts molds have worked a treat. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

Thats very nicely done. Lovely colour scheme

I enjoyed the warhammmer weekly show. There were some fun insights especially as I don't play stormcast at all so it's nice to get some thoughts on particular units.

You beat me to finishing an Endless Deserts table! My own table is only about 80% done and the terrain about 50%.
I think it needs an oasis and a few palm trees to finish it off though. Looks a bit bare still for AoS, but I'll see what I have left time wise.
-
These look really cool. Can you post up a picture of the drill attachment and the hot wire cutter you have used? I'm really interested about terrain making at the moment and am looking for fun new toys.

Great idea and a top quality result. I think terrain is really important and this kind of day is really inspiring.

Very nice. I love an army that has a theme like this. I hope it plays out well too.

I have a lot of the list built and painted so I might try this out

I thought it was a terrific weekend. Certainly enjoyed myself a lot more than at last years Heat 1.
You got to play some top people as well which is always a real positive!
Looking forward to read about how day 2 went
