As pessimistic as it is to say, the Advent Engine isnt so fun this year.

I decided to embrace it with my new profile pic... hopefully this means next year we get the advent calendar dedicated exclusively to Silent People... with Kurnothi Aelves, Chaos Dwaves and Malerion's Aelves having been released already 😉

Ah well, I guess it's hype for Eldar players, though. They must be having the time of their lives.

As a former Eldar player the discord leak advent calendar is a lot better than GW "9 snippets of 2 kits" thing they've got going now. Like yes I'm glad GW are refreshing Eldar but for me personally the hype around that comes mostly from a relief that we werent going to be squatted for more marines, partly from the leaked rules, a smidge for new models, and not at all from an advent calendar dedicated to hinting at something we already know for over a week straight.

Yeah, I think even for people who are initially interested in a new Eldar release (like me) this gets boring fast. If you already know the answer to "I wonder what today's rumor engine will be about?" even checking the new images starts to feel unnecessary after day 8 or 9 of the same thing. Sure, you can use them to speculate about exactly what Eldar models are getting updated, but that's already quite far removed from what normally makes rumor engines entertaining.

That's true of themed rumor engines generally I think, but at least with say the Thondia previews, there was still rampant speculation regarding what the KB were even going to be or look like at the time, so there was at least some interest. Eldar by contrast are not a new army, their aesthetics are quite well understood and so on. Perhaps excessively so, given how little their look has diverged from 2nd or 3rd edition 40k or whatever.

With the rumor engine, normally trying to guess what its from is a lot of the fun, but its not very interesting when we already know its an eldar thing from the get-go. Its good their getting new models, but it makes for a less interesting rumor engine.

high complexity, low impact is the worst quadrant

Agreed. Skareshields would be completely different if kruleboyz had an out of sequence retreat (like in the battleshock phase or something) or even retreat + charge. Since it would have the complexity of only working in the charge phase at range, but pulling off the hit and run combo to reapply it would be satisfying and justify the restriction. (the needing to roll over bravery thing will always be silly). Out of sequence retreat would also let you reapply the shaman's poisons though, which would feel pretty narrative.

"The gutrippaz fade out of combat to reapply the poisons and spook the enemy only to come crashing back in."

I dont think its pessimistic to say that tbh. We are on an AoS forum so I would assume we either like AoS more or even dont care about 40k that much. So an advent calendar entirely dedicated to 40k is not going to appeal to us. We can only hope we get some more AoS outside the calendar

Oh I'm immensely happy for those Eldar fans, I would feel the same for Skaven and Beasts of Chaos fans were it for them. As @Ganigumo said, half the excitement of the RE is not knowing what we are getting.

Im super hyped about new Eldar stuff as its my main 40k army but this rumour engine became dull real fast. There are way more juicy rumours floaring around and the bits that are shown on the rumour engine are really generic Eldar stuff.

I mean what do people expect?  It seems that we will get less models than in the last 2 years in the beginning of 2022 if the rumours are true. GW is months behind.

AoS has some fyreslayers and  IDK if the rumours are true that's all till summer. Then 40k get some eldars and csm. It is what it is.

I think you're on the money there. Due to the whole shipping and production crisis this shouldn't be unexpected.

I am curious what GW will do to keep the momentum going without the constant flow of releases? Maybe more digital content? Maybe do a global campaign or something.. who knows.

Yeah but they could throw in a close up of a tacitcal rock, random skull or a chaos icon from the Chaos Space marine release and we can at least pretend it was from AOS 😢

Hopefully those rumors aren't true 🥶. We need to get the battletome machine rolling, there's a bunch of factions in desperate need of an update.

Let's say eldar and cam take up 8 weeks of releases.

Tau, genestealer cult and golden boys codex releases take 2 weeks.

Fyreslayer/deepkin box and battletome 1 week.

Underworlds 2 weeks

Warcry, kill team, airplanes, Necromunda, bloodbowl, lotr, 4 weeks

That would still leave 9 weeks in the first 26 weeks of the year for other releases.

I can't see 6 months going by with only 2 battletome releases and no major model releases for AoS.

Well with Adepticon previews happening in March one would assume we are getting some AoS stuff in the April and May slots

optimistically I would also say that they will reveal what the next AoS release is soon since there is nothing else we know of once Nurgle hits the shelf, even if it’s further down the line on the schedule

Dont forget to sprinkle some specialist games there too. In theory Horus Heresy is getting a big release and thats not counting all the other ones like necromunda, warcry, underworlds, killteam etc

I am kinda baffled they haven't dropped the FAQ yet. At this point nobody will be playing with the FAQ rules this weekend so that leaves 1 more weekend  before christmas.

What is your opinion about it? Will you play warhammer during the holidays? Usually here everything is mostly closed oor people are doing something else till the new year begins.

I think i remember the Killteam roadmap saying they are getting another battle zone and boxset sometimes in the first three months of the year

I remember something similar too. And if the rumors are to be believed one of those teams will be Eldar. Guess we will have to wait and see
