  1. If Lady Atia is right about an Ogre with cats, "Tyrant (i.e. the revealed model) plus cats" makes no sense. It would have to be "Hunter plus cats", which is the Skal combination.
  2. It would also rule out that previous Ogre rumour (i.e. all resin warscrolls removed, except Butcher/Tyrant), and thus potentially also save my 21 Yhetees from the Legends abyss.
  3. This would be great, but I don't trust GW to not give them a "twist" so they they are almost nothing like the classic Gothic "Dracula" Vampires that are not copyrightable. There is a decent demand and love for grumpy, Tolkein-esque dwarfs too, but GW has almost wiped out this archetype in favour of KO and FS. Conversely, Nighthaunt gives some hope, as they are, basically, an army of bedsheet ghosts and Grim Reaper-esque Wraiths. As I said in another thread, plastic Blood Knights, Fell Bats and a new foot Vampire Lord and you are good to go. With the existing Vargs, VLoZD, Coven/Bloodseeker and Neferata, that's a solid, if elite, faction. Personally, I prefer a "all vampires and bats army" (i.e. Soulblight) to "vampires leading lots of different dead stuff" (i.e. Legion of Blood), so I hope this is the direction they take, but, again, I am a bit skeptical.
  4. A lot of players are hoping for this (i.e. AoS rules and basing, with Old World characters, lore and aesthetics). It will all come down to how well the community takes up pointed Legends, as with no community/opponents there is obviously no game. There is still a significant following for classic Dwarfs, Elves, Humans, Vampires, TK (etc.), so I'm hopeful
  5. It's not really a Distraction Carnifex. A Distraction Carnifex is usually a model that looks scary, but is actually far less damaging (and far cheaper in terms of points) than the model would suggest. Basically, its a way of psychologically distracting inexperienced players who waste resources killing the "big scary thing" that he should actually just ignore. Gotrek can't really be ignored, and certainly isn't weak or cheap! If you want a true Distraction Carnifex to waste the time of novice opponents, I'd suggest the Kharybdyss.
  6. In my opinion, the existence of the very modern-looking and classically Vampiric Coven Throne/Bloodseeker Palanquin and Neferata (and Mannfred?) mean that Vampires/Soulblight will remain. To be honest, new foot Vampire Lord, Blood Knights and Fell Bats - with Bat Swarms as one of the Endless Spells, obviously - and they are home and dry when you include the existing above-mentioned kits, VLoZD and Vargheists. I'd prefer them to be an elite all Vampire/bat army, rather than the "Vampires leading other stuff" army of old. It's more visually cohesive, and tighter thematically.
  7. This depends of your location. If you lived in the vicinity of, say, London, you could probably find people who play any game. Hell, you could probably hook up a game of Man 'O' War. However, if you live in, say, Fort Wayne, Indiana, you will likely be forced into playing what people in the local FLGS are playing. This is far, far more likely to be the currently-supported core games (i.e. 40K and AoS) from the world biggest miniature's game company (i.e. GW).
  8. I always said that paint jobs and head swaps can go a long way to making "evil" elves into "good" elves. I might have removed the decapitated head from the champion though!
  9. To be fair, Duncan did a conversion video before where he made his own Freeguild from Kairic Acolytes.
  10. Jesus Christ, that takes me back. I had this exact toy!
  11. I am in a weird position where I didn't like the original incarnation of AoS as it was too "loose" and freeform, with no points and barely any structure. It probably hit a sweet-spot at some point during the pendulum swing. Maybe around the time that allies were introduced. But now AoS is too risky in terms of current and future squattings, and, as a result, feels too railroaded in terms of faction options. In addition, the community feels more competitive and list-obsessed than before. Basically, I feel it's gone from too open and unrestricted to too competitive and restrictive - if that makes any sense - and I sit firmly in the middle of that spectrum.
  12. I agree with your post, except for the bold. In my experience, "casuals" want points as there is nothing less casual than "building their own game"! Points are a universal language for quick pick-up games: On FLGS Facebook page: "Hey. Anyone fancy a 2000-point of AoS this Saturday? I'm bringing my Nurgle" "Yea, sure. I play Nighthaunt." "Cool! See you at 10-ish!" Done.
  13. It's been pretty random in terms of what old WHFB players were caught holding the granade when it exploded and who avoided it. I was just thinking about how lucky WHFB Beastmen players are, which, lets face it, was one of the lesser WHFB armies in terms of focus and representation (and, I assume, sales). While they did have a weird limbo period of separate Breyherd and Warherd, they are now sitting pretty with 90% of their old line still on sale and contained within one single book. Hell, they even got Tzaangor and a few other random monsters to join the party*. And what did they lose? Ghorros Warhoof and some standing character sculpts (and these all got a Made to Order run). In these tumultuous times, that is quite a result. Compare that with High Elves, Tomb Kings, Dwarfs, Brets, (etc.) However, the Squat Gods seem do seem to be smiling down upon Dark Elves. * For god's sake, make Skin Wolves Beasts of Chaos already.
  14. Warhammer Weekly (33:40 onwards): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83cLqXZ9YDs At the seminar, it was stated that "very big" changes coming at Forgeworld. No details, but I wonder what this mean for LoA...
  15. That's what I mean. The aesthetics of the Coven Throne are so classically vampiric that it would almost force the aesthetic of anything joining it back towards classic Soulblight. Assuming the kit isn't removed, of course.
  16. What do you think about the fate of kits like the Coven Throne, which are modern in terms of sculpt quality but classic in terms of aesthetics (i.e. Castlevania-esque Elizabeth Bathory vampires)?
  17. You mean Orruks and Cities of Sigmar? Warhammer Weekly from around 23:15 (Vince was at the seminar): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83cLqXZ9YDs
  18. Which is why I have ummed and erred about starting Soulblight. I really want to, but can't help feeling the classic Gothic Vampire trope will soon be replaced by "Two-headed vampire pirates with a combined Japanese, Mesoamerican and Maori" theme, or something. Then the original Soulblight warcrolls get dumped in Legends, and I'm down a thousand dollars and months of lost hobby time. If you do anything "classic" - be it classic dwarfs, vampires, skeletons, elves (x3) or humans - you will probably get squatted in the future when a sort-of-similar-but-not-really "unique" army comes out as a "spiritual successor".
  19. He did "buy" them. In this scenario, he has bought one OBR toy to represent one OBR toy on the table. Other add-ons could be greenstuffed, bits from other companies' models, bought from bitz sites, self-casts, etc. It's just window dressing.
  20. Most criticisms i have seen don't even mention TK.
  21. Yes, i feel that if someone posted these as an example of a "cool" new Privateer Press or Mantic range, they'd get dumped on here.
  22. This is like IDK again. Take something i thematically like (in that case nautical elves, and in this case "skeletons") and yet somehow be an almost complete miss.
  23. On Facebook a few days ago, i called the Legends announcemnet being a one-time (due to non-changing meta from finite number of armies) points allocation, and got shot down for it. Usually, if enough peiple call for something that doesnt require too many resources, nuGW will do it, and the calls for Legends points were over 90% of the responses to every Legends-related post I saw on the official Facebook accounts. They got that message loud and clear.
  24. Non-Skaven player in peace. I was flicking through 4dChan for Skaven, and noticed that the Plaguesmog Congregation is described as a re-roll for the 4-up (i.e. 75% success) for 1MW ability. I remember it being a 2-up (i.e. 83% success) for D3 MW and -1 to hit against shooting. I haven't read the current Skaven book. Did it really get the triple nerf? Scary, as I was once considering converting an entire Plague Censer Bearer army around this battalion...
