AoS 2 - Ossiarch Bonereapers Discussion

Recommended Posts

Been working on my own Arkhan, mount's mostly done but haven't finished the rider yet.

So yeah, I wanted *a* Petrifex nerf, if not one this bad, but I'm still quite sad that I didn't finish this project in time to get it on the table in the brief window when he was actually good.

Katakros - 500

Liege-Kavalos - 200 (Sword Rend 3 artifact)

Mortisan Boneshaper - 130

Mortek Guard x 20 - 260

Mortek Guard x 10 - 130

Kavalos Deathriders x 5 - 180

Immortis Guard x 3 - 180

Necropolis Stalkers x 3 - 180

Morghast Harbingers x 2 - 190

Nightmare Predator - 40

--

Casual for funsies list, goal being to place a ton of varied units onto the table. Fast units charge to their doom to let Katakros and pals advance. Immortis Guard stick to Katakros to keep his aura at max range for turn 2.

Boneshaper is here because the Nightmare Predator is my 2nd favorite model in the line up (Morghasts being favs).

I know players are upset about PE nerf, but it makes placing Katakros on the table feel so much more relevant. The points nerf to the big guys also gave me way more freedom to make this list in the first place.

Excited for the changes, and relieved to have less of a "that guy" stigma for playing these guys.

Katakros list was great with Petrifex. Now, I think that MP with Katakros is the best option for tournaments.

I want to try 12 stalkers. Maybe it´s crazy but...

Okay, so this is might be a weird/silly question so I apologise in advance.

I've seen people running Katakros as general in MP armies and I've been using the Azyr app to do army building but when I do, it says I need to assign the MP command trait to a general when I put a second hero on the list? Do you have to do that or is it being weird

You can't, because Katakros can't have a command and you want him to be your general.

Azyr's just being weird.  App's good for referencing rules & scrolls, but the list builder's not the best.  Warscroll-builder or battlescribe are both better gor that, imo.

Crematoriums
Leige Kavalos - General with trait and artefact
Boneshaper
20x mortek
3x Deathriders
1x Harvester
bone tithe shrieker

thoughts? maybe a different legion. Likely going up against, LRL, KO, IDK

I'm trying it too, but is PE the best choice for you? I want to try every legion and also without legion... do you have any list?

Quick question: does anyone know the rule for returning slain models into combat/daisy chaining them to pull other units in? I have seen people mention an FAQ on this matter but I cannot seem to locate it.

Returned models can only be placed within 3" of an enemy unit if the unit they are returned to is already in combat.

Deathriders are 5!

I don´t like boneshapers.  If you´re using crematoriums maybe I will run only a soulmason for the spells and 2x harvesters with more mortek than riders, watingfor the "KABOMS" and then return the models with the harvesters.

Yea I really got no idea where to put Nagash now in OBR, losing both +1 save but also the non stacking damage ignores from protection of nagash really hurts the build.

PArt of me wants null myriad, but it is really useless against any lists without magic to speak of, but will be really really good against some meta armies like Hallowheart, Tzeentch, Kroak and soon Teclis lists.

Stalliarch is always decent, run+charge is always nice to have, mobility wins games after all and maybe using 2 units of deathriders could also see play for the cmd.

Crematorium is rather meh all around and difficult to get much value from.

MP does debuff bravery which helps with soul stealer and the few non battleshock immune armies out there... The artifact is ok if you bring a Liege for some DP generation, which could also be important for that once per game D3 on a critical turn perhaps, as a Nagash list will hunger for RDP.

Immortis guard might even have a use to keep him standing... maybe.

I'm just kind if frustrated that they wrote OBR with so many ward saves to begin with, they had to know the restriction to only one at a time was coming.

Has anyone had any experience with OBR in meeting engagements? If so what are your thoughts on them in that setting?

I find them quite good. Meeting engagements favor speedy units due to the few turns and late arrivals from board edges. Deathriders are great, they might not be the wall as mortek are, but they are super fast and still a great cav unit in their own right. I kavalos is of course also a decently fast general, Arkhan could also be a possible choice of leader for this, with a group of mortek in the main body and riders for spearhead and rear guard or stalkers.

OBR work decently well without battalions and all kinds of crutches and specialist builds for meeting engagements, while some 2k armies really need all the bells and whistles to raise their power exponentially.

I haven't played the 2020 version of Meeting Engagements, but the 2019 version was unfortunately dominated by big flying monster cheese, something OBR can't really compete with due to a lack of such units.  I'm not sure if anything about the 2020 version would change that.

From what I can tell, this might be one of the most competetive ways of running OBR moving forward. I have a set core in mind, but with 400 pts to move around. I know 2 catapults would be a popular choice, but I am not convinced it is the only choice. I am unsure about just taking 1 catapult and if it then might be best to not take any at all.

I have considered bumping the 5 riders to a 10 man unit, to take better advantage of their command and also better ensure they stay on the table to benefit from the healing of Arkhan and Katakros. As a 10 man unit it is also a potent hammer, as they can pile in 6", which helps with the big footprint. A harvester could be interesting, which could also greatly improve the durability of the morteks, especially if one unit is being used as a frontline screen to take on any bloodthirsters or other nasty business with high damage and MW output.

The main weaknes seems to be if Arkhan is shot down, with a double turn tzeentch magic phase or KO shooting phase etc. So Immortis guards could be of assistance and also more safely let Arkhan engage next to those guys in melee as well.

Thoughts?

Core list:

Allegiance: Ossiarch Bonereapers
- Legion: Mortis Praetorians
Arkhan the Black, Mortarch of Sacrament (360)
Katakros, Mortarch of the Necropolis (500)
- General
20 x Mortek Guard (260)
- Nadirite Blade and Shield
20 x Mortek Guard (260)
- Nadirite Blade and Shield
5 x Kavalos Deathriders (180)
- Nadirite Blade and Shield
Nightmare Predator (40)

Total: 1600 / 2000
Extra Command Points: 0
Allies: 0 / 400
Wounds: 86

If you want a low drop army, you can take a mortisan, 10 Morteks and the batalion Shield Corps. A lot of CPs and low drops.

If the enemy has bloodthirsters, Gothizzar can be usless because of the  MW 8" area, but it can be very powerful against other CaC armies.

I think double Crawler isn't very good at this moment. The opponent can take Ulgu and it would be difficult to shoot down enemies.

Maybe Zandtos is a nice pick thanks to the bonuses (repeat 1s or all to wound).

With MP being the go to now for Katakros builds, it would make sense even though it doubles down a bit on the same stuff Katakros does (being a liege). It is hard to get Katakros in 12" range of his +1 attack command though, and having zandtos run along a big unit of deathriders could maybe work, he is quite killy on the charge as well and he provides the 2 RDP himself to buff a unit with both +1 attack and reroll 1s to wound.

With that setup it would still only be 6 drops, not the best, but in my experience it is also below a lot of other lists right now still.

I played something like 2 Boneshappers, 1 Soulmanson (General), 1 Gothizzar, 20 Morteks and 10 Morteks at Petrifex (post-nerf). It was a 2Vs2. It was not easy to take down the Morteks, so they had to focus heroes (shooting).

Greetings.

What do your guys think of this list?

The idea is to try to run Arkhan somewhat aggressive, weaken stufg/threaten characters with the catapults and the Leige can give +1 attack and +1 to hit to units.

And Arkhan can explode on 5+. Won't be casting Protection on him, as it's a double edged sword.

I think the best for competitive now is Katakros and his legion. Arkhan in petrifex now is too dangerous :P
