  1. My thoughts exactly about the Witch Hunter; General with a sweet hat! I actually had plans to use the Warrior priests as Excelsior Warpriests and the baby griffon from the General kit (😢) as gryph hounds since they match the size of the silver tower gryph hound. Not sure what I'ma do with my General with his "that's totally metal" dead-angel banner... I'm curious where people are getting the Steam Tank army tidbit from. I've searched the Warhams Community article and didn't see it. I just painted a Steam Tank and wanna know how far I can take this thing. Riding a bear. Always a good decision. Give me my demigryph general and I'll be happy! Also update everyone's Command Abilities to activate in the phase in which they work!
  2. Its really quite nice to see this sentiment. I have a Free Peoples army and all of my Freeguild Generals, Archers (75% of the ranged infantry in my army), War Priests, and Witch Hunter were cut. However I'm still excited about this book too and fully intend to use these models in future games. I'm excited to see what new ways there are to play with my toys and to learn which city appeals to me. I have an idea it may be Hammerhal or The Living City but I want to read the rules and lore first. I'm interested to see what new models we get too. There may be a suite of new models or just a terrain piece and Endless Spells but, in either case, I'm fine with it. Especially because I have no idea what kind of terrain or spells they could release that would represent all the Free Cities. Secretly, I'm hoping for a new Freeguild General model on a demigryph, please. I don't know if you are a Warhammer veteran or joined after the launch of AoS but this thread's reaction is pretty much par for the course when a new book is released. Its inflamed this time because they are discontinuing models and people are understandably upset. Once the book is released this doom-saying attitude will blow over. Once we have the book, most people will be too excited to play with their toys to worry much about which General model they're using and the rest will sell off their Free Peoples on eBay and move on since they won't really have any other choice at that point beyond screaming into the void. In the meantime, I really wish people would spend less time complaining at other (mainly) sympathetic people who can do nothing about the problem and more time discussing what makes them excited about this release. It gets wearisome and drives people away from what should be a place of excitement over this hobby we all enjoy. Call me cynical but, for the time being, I think we'll see many more people vigorously defending their right to wallow in anger and resentment rather than trying to be constructive. However in the name of constructive discussion, I have some questions for us to consider. - What do we know? - What don't we know but want to know? - Are you planning any conversions/purchases for the new book? - What do you hope for and expect in terms of rules changes, warscroll updates, allegiance abilities, city abilities, spell lores, artifacts?
  3. That's not Karl Franz. In the new lore his name is Farl Kranz!
  4. That's my point as well. There are no grand designs and GW didn't axe High Elves because they hate elves or hate elf players or suck at their jobs. They did it to reduce the amount of inventory they have to create and store especially for the products that were not selling as highly as they expected. Beyond that are concerns about game design and redundancy in the Battletome itself. Lastly are lore concerns. As annoying as inconsistency in the lore is, they can change it to be whatever they want at any time that suits them. To put it another way, they can easily change the lore to match more important considerations but its pretty damn hard to adjust the financials to accommodate storing tons of high elf models that aren't selling because high elves are mentioned in the Realmgate Wars.
  5. As others have said, look for pretty much any duardin infantry with a melee weapon and just use them as those. The model really doesn't matter that much as long as you are clear with your opponent about what they are armed with and the rules you are using. Or use them as statues in terrain, that'd be cool too.
  6. This is agree with. I think the Stormcast Battletome is rather bloated with redundant unit entries. Its more like 2-3 armies in one Battletome than one unified force. This is why GW had to cut production of so many different model lines while designing Cities of Sigmar. There were nearly 90 units that could have been in the Cities of Sigmar book. With the cuts, we're down to 50ish. That's still too many I think, but the situation before would've been ridiculous. Every unit in the book would've had 2-3 other units that were functionally identical and redundant. Why did Greatswords make the cut and not Swordmasters? For GW the decision prolly came down to which molds are newer and which models sell better? Rules(and lore)-wise the two units are pretty much two different flavors of the same thing.
  7. This is extremely hyperbolic. This is only true if you play at the top tables in Matched Play at the biggest tournaments. In other words it is true for a small fraction of games played by an even smaller fraction of players globally. It's not even true at most tournaments or else every game at every tournament would be FEC, DoK, Skaven, and LoN fighting each other. If the stats show anything it's that there are a huge variety of armies at every event. I don't think all the Beastclaw, Slaves to Darkness, Stormcast, Seraphon, etc. players are masochists that just enjoy losing every game...which is good since they don't lose every game. They even 'gasp' win some tournaments! Of course legends is not available in Matched Play and for those of you whose armies have lost warscrolls, you have my sympathies. Just think of this as a chance to explore new army lists and play styles. As for models being invalidated, that's simply not true. At the end of the day every Freeguild Guard, Elf Spearman, and Dwarf Warrior are just humanoids with a melee weapon on a 25mm base. The only parts of that description that ultimately matters are "melee weapon" and "on a 25mm base". I can use my entire high elf army in the new book. The warscrolls that represent the model's rule might have changed; maybe my Reavers are now called Pistoliers but that's what Sharpies are for. Just cross out Pistoliers and write in Reavers...or just tell your opponent you're using your Reavers as Pistoliers. I'm sure that between all of use here we could find warscrolls to represent every discontinued model. If the problem is that you weren't able to buy the model you wanted before it was discontinued, again you have my sympathies. It's unfortunate but others on here have already explained why discontinued models are necessary and inevitable. PS: I know many people think this wasn't handled well and you are right. However, I would argue that there is no way to handle this well. If GW discontinued any model and emailed everyone personally with their exact amount of remaining stock, updated hourly, and predicted sell out date months in advance, this thread would look pretty much the same.
  8. Hey now! You leave him out of this! He's a cute little piggy! 😡 😄
  9. That is something about their games I really do appreciate! 😊
  10. I personally don't mind the double turn. In fact I prefer it. This is coming from someone with awful priority roll luck. My record is nearly 20 failed priority rolls in a row (over multiple games of course). 😁 Other people have said this but I've played games of 40k where I looked at deployment and who won first turn, and knew the outcome of the game with certainty. That sucks! The double turn removes that possibility. Yes, you can go second, win the double and try to "alphastrike" your opponent. However this very different from what happens in 40k. In 40k, my opponent wins the first turn and I lose by the end of their first shooting phase. In AoS, my opponent wins priority, gives me an entire turn to prepare my defenses, takes their turn and has less than a 50% chance (I win ties) of getting the double turn. This far more interesting, counterable, and fun than how 40k does things. No one in my community has any issues with the rule. It's just another rule to take into consideration. Frankly I'd be sad if they removed it. So it's a good thing they're not gonna! 👍
  11. BOOM! Shots fired! Nothing I like more than ripping on the giant, transhuman super-soldiers!
  12. You're forgetting something. The Freeguild are all really scrappy little guys. Scrappiness equals +1 to their save. Never forget, every Freeguild soldier is someone Sigmar DIDN'T have to save while every Stormcast Eternal is someone who'd be dead if Sigmar had not saved them. 😤
  13. Am I late to the party? I'ma predict Dogs of War are going the way of the dodo! Also Necron Pariahs! 😉
  14. I wouldn't worry about the general on his steed for a couple reasons. First, he's a requirement for one of the new mercenary companies in the GHB 2019. Secondly, he's still available online here (US).
  15. Powder Monkey is life! Powder Monkey forever!!! 🐒 The Guard and Crossbow/Handgun kits are showing their age. Luckily the Guard is from a time that GW models were very easy to convert. The Guard also represent regular townspeople and militia so I mix lots of different models in my units. Why not throw some aelves and dwarves and halflings in there for variety? As for the Crossbows/Handguns, I prefer the Archer models so even if they discontinue the Archers mine will just be "counts as" crossbows.
  16. Every rule in the game is optional. Every rule in every circumstance. You could choose to ignore To Hit rolls if you wanted. There might even be a type of event where that's appropriate and fun. You might also get some blow back on that idea since To Hit rolls are one bit of randomness everyone expects and so they choose not lump it in with the terrain rule randomness they claim to hate but that's neither here nor there. If you are planning or hosting an event, it's wise to take the reasonable expectations of your participants into account but that doesn't change the fact that you can use or not use any rule as you see fit in your games. When running an event the only rules that aren't "optional" are whatever you think the event's participants expect.
  17. My idea is kind of the opposite; Freeguild with no gunpowder. So no handguns or pistols or artillery. I'd allow steam tanks on the idea that they are steam cannons so no gunpowder needed. I'd also allow my witch hunter to have his brace of (steam) pistols since the model is lovely. Also witch hunters are totally super-cheddar, crazy broken and I can't believe they made them cheaper; they should be spammed in every Order list! /s(odamnmuchsarcasm)
  18. That's my biggest concern too. It would be a shame since they're far better models in my opinion than the crossbowmen/handgunners. They have lots of character and come with a dying orc! Oh well...if they go then my archers will just become "crossbowmen cosplayers". I hardly have any crossbowmen as it is and more than 30 archers! Still very excited about this new book! 😁
  19. I absolutely agree with you on this point. When it comes to playing the game just play WYSIWYG and use or convert the models you like. 😎 According to their warscroll, my Freeguild Guard models are armed with swords and shields. That's it. They are not "humans armed with swords and shields. They are models armed with swords and shields. My Freeguild Guard has plenty of human models in it but also dwarves, aelves, halflings, goblins, and even a ghost and a skeleton! I've yet to meet someone who cares that my Free People are so multi-cultural. I get the feeling that many people think GW has far more resources than they actually do or else that their job is much easier than it actually is. My money's on a Free People Battletome by the end of next year. But if you think all they need to do is "just" release a whole new line (or two) of models you're gonna be disappointed. That's a process that takes years from start to finish.
  20. In Teclis' defense, it's not like he has a history of destroying the world because his plans didn't work out and he thought he knew better than anyone else what...to...do... Oh... 😐
  21. I promise I haven't! 😉 However I am guilty of misquoting my sources. The actual quote: "Much of the Realm of Life's perimeter is a jungle of jade so thick it is impenetrable - those who approach it may sprout foliage all over, perpetually give birth, sire new forms of life, or take root entirely." - AoS Core Book, pg 82 All of those options are pretty Grimdark honestly. I like to think that if humans "sprout foliage all over", then perhaps the same thing is happening to the plants. Imagine a tree sprouting arms and legs and faces and 'unmentionable bits' all over. Has a real Cronenberg feel to it! 😫
  22. I know it's not technically Seraphon...but it's basically Seraphon and it's awesome! https://images.app.goo.gl/quvQMRNSHi3duGmG7
