How Will You Expand Your Warbands?

I've built the Untamed Beasts and Iron Golems from the core box, and I'm trying to get ideas for interesting ways to expand these warbands, or any others I get. I'm not really sold on buying multiple boxes of the exact same set to build a roster though. What are your plans for expanding your warbands--any warband--curious to see what people have planned.

I plan on building up warbands into larger groups with full box purchases because each box is basically one full segment of troops for AoS proper. The special units per warband (eg the leader, lion and spear thrower from Untamed Beasts) are "must takes" in the AoS rules per block of troops (each block is the same number as there are models in a warband box - so 9 for Untamed beasts).

The upper limit for all is around 4 boxes - giving one full unit with at least 4 of each specialist. For me I love the visual design of some of the warbands and want to see them run as a force on the tabletop, not just in Warcry.

Furthermore the weapon options in terms of optional parts on models, are quite limited (its only one or two on most); and in the AoS rules the optional weapons have no effect on the units stats. So you can build your warband however you want and it will change for Warcry, but for AoS it has no impact.

This all pleases me greatly. For some warbands like Untamed Beasts I intend to get a full 4 boxes at least to field a full unit or two broken down ones; plus have a full compliment of choices for building up a warparty for Warcry. So I guess for those bands my expansion plan is more driven by AoS than by warcry alone; this makes it a bit more expensive, but at the same time gives me the most versatile use of them.

I also plan on getting more furies and raptorchickens - for much the same reasons.

I love the sculpts but honestly hope they add some new models or kits down the road. I may try kitbashing a figure or two down the road (already decided on a new breached by modding a blood bowl ogre), but (for now) I’m just going to have one box of each faction.

Well I already tossed around the idea for untamed beasts but I want to buy the godsworn hunt guys and turn them into beasts with extra parts and the like. Especially the javelin lady, turning her into a first fang would be fun, and the two-handed guys into extra preytakers would be nice to play with. Make a more elite warband.

for iron golems I may see if I can grab a few chaos warriors to use as extra iron legionaries or armored soldiers, just to see if they would fit. If not, I may buy another bunch of them so I can make a Roman legion style war party with legionaries. Maybe replace all the hand hammers with gladius blades so they can fight like true sons of Rome.

splintered Fangs are easy. I already wanted to buy two boxes when I first saw them, so I believe I would just do that to get as many options as I can to play what I want... also green-stuff noodle some snakes onto some bases and have an all snake warband.  These guys, the unmade and the iron golems are really the factions I can see building an entire Slaves to darkness army around.

I´d like to get two sets of untamed beasts just so I can run different warbands. I like that spear throwing guy and the wild cat and therefore I´d like to have 2 of each. On the other hand, with 55 points for the least expensive trooper you can also try to run swarm tactics...

The above call for godsworn hunt warband from shadespire is also a good one. Lots of conversion possibilities...

I'm thinking of expanding my Untamed Beasts with the Godsworn hunt - they have just about similar enough aesthetics to work together, and between the two boxes i'll have plenty of options. I'm also planning to run them as Bloodreavers, since my main AoS army is Realm of Beasts Khorne, and the two boxes together have enough "normal" models to fit like that nicely.

I picked up the Cypher Lords because they were the Warband I liked the most that others didn't already have plans for. I love the models, and the playstyle has been fun and challenging, but... I have NO idea how I could fill out the warband. While I appreciate the simplicity of just multiple boxes of the warband fitting together so well, I think I would have preferred the Leader of each warband to be a character instead of part of the unit. Having more than 1 Thrallmaster, especially with that grandiose and hard to convert pose, just doesn't appeal.

The Kairic Acolytes feel like the closest connection to the Cypher Lords, but the different helmets would feel off, and the more static poses also are kinda lame compared to the dynamic poses of the Cypher lords. BUT, the dynamic poses of the Cypher lords make them hard to build other than how the box demands, meaning...multiples just look meh. A big problem I've come to with new GW stuff more and more.....hmm...

So, my Cypher Lords may just stay in the "base" mode, though currently there aren't a lot of builds to bother with other than different mixes of goons, so perhaps not that big of a deal?

BTW, can you just take Furies/Raptoryxes in Matched Play? That'd be a nice addition and other conversion opportunity.

I don't like repeat miniatures so unless GW releases different looking models for the Warcry Warbands I'm sticking to just one box. I'd love to be able to build all the options of the mini's but I won't be buying a second box when only 2 models will look slightly different. I already own the Godsworn Hunt and I guess I could use them to add to the Untamed Beasts... But I have no ideas for the Iron Golems or Corvus Cabal.

Could probably get away with either Blood Warriors or Chaos Warriors as extremely beefy Iron Golems, perhaps with a bit of converting.

For some reason the Mistweaver Siah, along with her lore fits the Cypher Lords. I thought of using her as an extra luminate

I'd have a look into the Daughters of Khaine, especially the Sisters of Slaughter.

Besides that, i'm looking around for models with similar aesthetics like my Unmade warband, but i found nothing really useful so far.

I'd thought about doing this, and just explain the different look as warriors of a particular god taking interest in the Golems. Thus adding in a few Blood Warriors would be like the favor of Khorne manifesting.

I've got the old pewter command group of Chaos Chosen. They may fit in pretty well with IGs.

Also the big axe slauterpriest comes to mind......
