  1. And the final week of the Animosity IV campaign comes to a close. It was a wild ride and honestly, I have been very pleased with this one, even if I wanted to do more. My Fyreslayer army is still far away from finished, but I got a good chunk done and a lot of lore fleshed out! My hope is still to have them finished by the end of the year! Here is a short rundown of how the campaign went for me: 1) Got to play as Duardin with a Duardin heavy faction! Felt cool, Duardin/dwarves are my favorite race. Excited to do more with them. 2) Got my custom sculpts for my characters. The world needs more dwarf ladies and I plan to do my part. 3) I found a great love for storytelling through model dioramas. Might have to do some of my own, though even posing and setting up cinematic shots with the terrain my shop had lying around was fun! 4) While the character RP was light, I got to have fun cozying up to the awesome Admiral that led my faction. 5) Last but not least, we completed our secondary goal! It was, honestly, my biggest desire to snag this campaign. At least the Skyport is safe! ❤️ Now, onto my final reports! First is a quick hobby report, I build 5 Auric Hearthguard! Now I have only a few things left to build/convert before I can call this faction done. Then onto more painting! Next is perhaps my favorite report this campaign! Dura and her warband know little about engineering, but their elemental powers have kept the lights on and the power burning bright as the Skyport takes off. Was neat mixing AoS with 40k, but that is the cool part about Kharadron Overlords. Whew! It feels good to be done. I hope the final narrative brings us good fortune and I hope the few people who looked in on this enjoy what they saw. I would like to perhaps do something MUCH more narrative and impactful as I finish the Fyreslayers. Wish me luck! And may a blessed hobbying be had by you all!
  2. Another week, another bout of Animosity reports! This week I finally got in a full set of 3 reports thanks to a quick demo game I did for a new guy to the shop. First up we have the Storytelling report for Week 4. I do love doing these, it is fun to set a scene and really showcase the models in something other than a game setup. Next up, the game I referred to! It was a barebone teaching game using my Fyreslayers and the Dominion demo orruks we keep at the story, but it was fun to show someone new the ropes and get some more Fyreslayer action! And finally, the one I am the MOST excited about! A big part of my Fyreslayer's lore is that there are no Runesons. The Runefather has only had Daughters, but they lead the charge and fight with the fury to make dad proud anyways. It is mostly an excuse to find some cool dwarf female models and incorporate them. For Animosity IV, my character of choice was one of those Runedaughters, Dura Forgeheart. After a lot of searching, I found these AWESOME Artisan Guild minis and felt they fit the role well. From 3D print to paint job, here we have Dura Forgeheart in the fiery flesh! And that makes it for week 4 of the Animosity campaign! Next week is the finale with one more week to report! I am not sure how the story will end, but I am excited and hopeful that some of my personal wishes come true!
  3. I am not too shocked at the quiet responses. It's alright, this hasn't been the EPIC ARMY BLOG I had always dreamed of. One day I'd love to have something like that, but for now, I post for Animosity and get in the hobby that I can. Here are my reports for Week 3! Hobby Report for Week 3! Newly built/recruited Vulkite Berserkers head out for some Exploration to help find supplies, parts, and people for Barak-Drak! (I rather love the new GHB for making Vulkites rather interesting choice, IMO) And the more fun one, a nice scenic shot for my Week 3 Storytelling Report! Lodge Darkrom are skilled wielders of Elemental Powers. With priests dotting along vital, magical places, they channel in the power of their forges and the very heart of Aqshy to bring strength and power into the mountain, hopefully stabilizing the wild magic and destructive forces surrounding Barak-Drak! That is all for Week 3! When Animosity is over, I might do a more in-depth blog to showcase my Fyreslayers. For now, hope everyone is enjoying their hobby!
  4. Hobbies for the hobby god! Here we have my Magmic Battleforge. This came a lot earlier than you might expect for a free terrain piece. lol I was pondering how best to convert it, as the usual headpiece did not fit in well (I had gotten it second hand) and I wanted something unique. My lodge has a penchant for summoning Fire Elementals, which I'll flesh out a bit more with future units, likely my Auric Hearthguard. For now, I have a Fire Elemental adornment on my Forge and I rather like how it turned out. This is for my Hobby report for Week 2 of the Animosity IV campaign! Hope you all like it! Cheers!
  5. Welcome, friends, and gather round the fire! Here we have the story of The Lodge Darkrom, a quickly growing Fyreslayer lodge who's tales of conquest, curses, and the deepest secrets of Aqshy. When this tale is done, I hope to have a defined and painted horde of Duardin berserkers to truly make an impact on the Mortal Realms. For the moment, this thread will be slow moving and a bit bare. While progress is steady, much is unfinished. The good news is, with the help of the awesome Animosity Campaigns (Chapter IV) I have some push for progress moving forward. While I will ammend this intro to include more background on my Lodge, I need to get some progress pics for the campaign. The Animosity Story thus far: Barak-Drak is a skyport that, though wild and calamitous magic, has fallen out of the sky. Runedaughter Dura Forgeheart has struck out to prove herself and gain some allies and pledged herself to the Kharadron's cause. Within hours of her pledge, she has duties to attend to and immediately sets out on a mission (or two!) of utmost importance... For the first report, a hobby report. Vulkites need to be built, so here we go! Eager to test the mettle of her newest recruits, Dura Forgeheart gathers her youngest Vulkite Berserkers and takes them with her as a personal retinue of sorts on their first mission. To aid Barak-Drak, Dura marches with the wide variety of warbands to seek out and secure the engineering books in the library currently sinking in the Dungmoot. The Fyreslayers had no need for engineering, but were happy to carve up both beast and ambusher as her fellow Skyguard plunder the ruins of the library. (Before and After some building for Vulkite Berserkers) But that is not all! Each week has multiple paths, so to help cover more ground, I made a Storytelling report as well: After a long debate with her friend and confidant Kragi Shadowbane, Dura Forgeheart's Hearthguard retinue go off an another mission. Their goal? To defend an ancient ruin filled with Chaos magic from being unleashed by wild cultists! The Realm throws all manner of beasts, weather, and warbands at them, but the Hearthguard of Lodge Darkrom have fire in their very souls and refuse to back down! (Dynamic shots to cover the Storytelling report. And a sneak peak at my color scheme!) That concludes the adventures for Week 1 of the Animosity Campaigns! More to come very soon!
  6. Wow! Love the wild and vibrant colors! That is not something I'd expect from Fyreslayers! So awesome! Drugs adds a hilarious angle to the Fyreslayers, rather fitting. Could also see a basis around Geodes and weird crystal formations. Either way, stunning army!
  7. Our side of the forum looked a bit bare and my favorite part of the hobby is seeing all the lore and hobby that goes into everyone's army! So, figured I'd start us off and see what this little slice of the AoS community looks like! My own Fyreslayers were a bit of a side project. Technically chosen as my "New Year, New Army" for 2021 as part of a group hobby push, I got through my initial batch pretty fast but fleshing them out for a full 2k went to the wayside. I got a good 1k painted and finished and another 2ish Start Collecting boxes in various levels of unbuilt/unpainted. Might even snag a Fury of the Deep box and have a few more ideas if I choose to really push this army to a "Full and Complete" force. I have been tweaking out lore for this Duardin for a while, connecting them with my massive (and currently backburnered) Cities of Sigmar project. Their paint scheme is heavily based on the Dark Iron Dwarves from World of Warcraft and I even thought out a bit of lore that might connect them a bit to their inspiration. So far, this is the basics I have: Malgni Emberhand was a young Runefather by Fyreslayer standards. Known for his quiet and wise nature, he spent most of his time building and bonding with others than diving into righteous fury. When he felt the fight was just or the cause was worthy, though, his brutality in combat and drive for success was unmatched. He left his Lodge at the behest of a vision he saw in flames, of a brilliant era of Duardin power that his will could help bring to fruition. He rode off with the most loyal of his clansmen to start their quest in eagerness. The line of Malgni's heritage is shrouded in mystery, though his coal black skin and glowing red eyes is a sight to behold. Hailing from a Magmahold deeper into the earth than many of their kin, his lodge of old had a strong connection to the element of Fire. These Fyreslayers take the veneration of Grimnir and Vulcatrix even farther, uniting them together in the symbol of Fire. Their many priests and bonding of elementals is said to have given their line an unnatural stamina, wisdom, and their intense appearance. Despite his resolve and the loyalty of his followers, Malgni's line is said to be cursed. Malgni has never produced a male heir, instead only having a large group of Daughters to his name. The wise Duardin does not see this as a bane or an issue, and trusts that his Daughters would put forth the strength, honor, and fury of any Runeson and would lead his future kin to many victories in the years to come. I have many conversions planned, from a thematic Giant Fire Elemental to unique Auric Hearthguard and of course...somehow putting together several Runedaughters to fill out my list. The last one may be even more wild, as female dwarf miniatures are few and far between and the new battletome seems to really boost Runesons of both types. Huzzah? Here are some pictures of just a portion of my Fyreslayers! Let me see what you all got, let's keep the lore and hobby flowing!
  8. Well, the time has come to really dig in and take a look at this. Watched the GMG review and while there are disappointments, there was a chunk I enjoyed. I am NOT a competitive person, so that does help a bit, but here are the take aways for me right now. - Path to Glory looks fun. Making contracts, bounties, earning gold. It all seems great and definitely a great way to put Fyreslayers into narrative play. Definitely worth poking at. - SO many good enhancements. That is kinda fun. I always fall back on Battle Regiment, might have to consider some "Bonus Relic" stuff. With a lodge that does it, might be an easy pick for starters. - Yeah, Magmadroths/Lofnir DOES look fun. I have yet to actually follow through on a collection to DO the monster spam, but I am closer than I expected with Fyreslayers... Who knows? Definitely worth a shot. - Foot heroes and buffs seem like a lot of fun. The idea of Rallying back troops, rotating front lines to keep your bodies full. Fueling Flamekeepers. Sounds amazing....probably will get shot to death and be sad, but that is just an issue that comes from high tier armies all over. Maybe a bit silly, but a cool idea anyways. - Grand strategies and Battle Tactics are FUN! Love the Book of Grudges one especially. Definitely need to get me a legit tome to write down all the grudges I am sure I'll accrue... - Allies look fun! Not only do allied Duardin get potential access to Runes, but the allies are NOT limited TO Duardin. That means you can toss in a Phoenix (thematic), Hurricanum, cavalry, mages, whatever. Lots of cool potential, even if it IS only a small amount of points. Given I already have Cities and adore their conversion potential, this at least leads to cool small hobby projects! I admit...I could be a LOT more hyped. I do feel a bit...awkwardly cursed? All the armies I've put a good amount of time into have either been nerfed in unfun ways (Slaanesh and now Fyreslayers) or they are just uncertain and hard to get (Cities of Sigmar with Webstore models). BUT...I do still love the Fyreslayers and while the new battletome price HURTS, the army is still cool. I guess the truly worst thing is that I should stay away from tournaments and find fun, weird narrative games to play....which is exactly what I want. Hope you all find joy in your hobby!
  9. What are the chances that the nerfed warscrolls in Fury of the Deep just aren't the current ones? We have seen no warscrolls in the previews and I SWEAR they have done this before: release weird warscroll changes in a box then immediately change them for a book. Just playing the optimist. DEFINITELY eager to read a full preview come Saturday.
  10. I want to be positive, and I will hold judgment until we get the book fully revealed, but this isn't looking exciting, which IMO is worse than bad. A full magmadroth army is cool, but I still haven't invested enough to do an entire Zombie Dragon army like I wanted, so Magmadroths likely won't be soon either... Besides, I play DORFS for the DORFS! We shall see, I want to be optimistic, I want to enjoy if all. I will be patient and weigh in later.
  11. So, in the beginning of March, I have a 1k tournament to make my grand Slaanesh gameplay debut at. Which means I have about 1 month to get my list settled and painted. Working on the painting now, but figured I'd tweak the list a bit, still very uncertain on the subfaction/artifact/command trait... Lord of Pain (General) 11x Blissbarb Archers 10x Symbaresh Twinsouls 5x Slickblade Seekers That leaves me with 115 points left. Thinking maybe a Great Bray Shaman for a wizard and an alright warscroll spell. For summoning I have some Daemonettes, gonna try and have 30 ready by then, we shall see. Doubt I'll get a Keeper by then, but maybe some Seekers or Fiends to summon? I assume it'd be good to have a cheap character to summon as I only have 1 to capture points in that one mission...
  12. This...is gonna be a wild month. I hope it doesn't burn me out... I have my 1k Slaanesh force (plus a small amount of demons) built and primed! With my vow to not play with unpainted minis at my LGS, I need to get this ALL painted before the next 1k tourney on March 5th. Slaanesh, grant me the excessive focus needed! lol Shockingly, if I hit the end on time, goal is to add more demons for summoning options!
  13. I am....cautiously optimistic. This IS a chance for some cool upgrades and updates and fun tweaks. At the very least, Path to Glory will be fun! But Fury of the Deep did the opposite to what I expected... Took the wind right out of my sails. Which I guess is fine, for me I am focusing on my Slaanesh anyways, but I'd love for a nice and fun Fyreslayers to come back to when I want a change, tide me over and get my DORF fill. Guess we'll see...
  14. Looks fun at least! I don't have the experience to say whether it is good or not, but squeezing those last few points might be worth it? Not easy, but upgrading the other Herald to Exalted? Not sure what to cut other than an entire unit... lol
  15. I think I am finally getting into a groove with the Slaanesh. Some fiddly stuff, lots of fragile bits, but I am moving forward with time to spare. Got my 1k list barring some small addition, and a small start to my summoning pool in the back there. Wonder if I can get this all painted by the end of February....oh dear.
  16. Huzzah! Actually accomplished the goal! Got now 31 Slaanesh models built (feels weird with the random hanger on from the archers) and almost to my 1k start. 10 Daemonettes from a different project in the background. I will probably push a bit to get the rest of my 1k list done, which at the moment are 5 Big Seekers and 1 Lord of Pain...and something else? lol Might try to convert the Lord to stand out, but still feeling that out.
  17. Absolutely wild models. You took the super unique style and really blasted it over the edge. Epic Chaos. What are the chariots from? Those are some twisted sculpts.
  18. I am currently building my Twinsouls, and plan to build Painbringers using leftover Sanguinary Guard bodies from 40k. (Making Primaris sized Sanguinary Guard from Stormcast, so this makes a cascade of kits helping multiple units!) Haven't done any test fits, but sill show off progress as I do!
  19. Got the archers built! Gorgeous things, may be a nightmare to paint but that is a problem for future me! lol
  20. The time has finally come. New Year, New Army has put me squarely in the arms of the Dark Prince themself! I snagged a Battleforce box, Daemons Start Collecting, and even had a Slaves to Darkness Start Collecting because I adored the models but haven't touched it yet. (Started a Chaos Marine force for this too last year, but that is for another forum!) Will be attempting to post here more, dig into some tips and tactics and more important revel in the hobby and lore! I have a big (and hopefully fun!) restriction for my forces: No spawn, no daemon princes...until they are earned. Gonna try and keep tallies of deeds my heroes do (or fail to do!) and see if any of them can earn either Daemonhood or Spawndom, converting a custom mini for them when they do. Hopefully convert some before minis too, but we'll see what inspires me. Got a few ideas in my head, sadly not as many options for heroes around here... Built the Blissbarb Archers first...kinda intimidated in painting them, but we'll get there. Probably build up some Symbaresh next, but we'll see! Question for now: Debating on the options to build and the only one that kinda stumps me is the big Seekers. Do I do the Seeker Archers or the Seeker melee dudes? I can kinda lean toward either, and I know ranged is rather rare in Chaos, so maybe that...? I am definitely doing Symbaresh Twinsouls, as I like their idea the most and have some conversion ideas for the Myrmidesh. I am excited to keep this going! This army may be in a rough spot, but I am in it for the long haul and the love of the hobby!
  21. Last month failed, but only because I started a project on a whim and didn't have a plan. That has been a problem in the past, but this year is a NEW YEAR! And ya know what New Year means in our hobby: New Army! lol This year is gonna be the year of a grand project and a steady pace towards better habits, both hobbies and otherwise. That is why the obvious New Army choice is SLAANESH! I went all in with a Battleforce, Slaves to Darkness Start Collecting, and a Demon of Slaanesh Start Collecting, with half of a Shadow and Pain in the mail. WOO BOY! Gonna do this step by step so I can savor every ounce of perfection. Might even start that blog I always wanted... For this month, let's get to building! I pledge to build 10 Blissbarb Archers (and their lovely little buddy) and 10 Symbaresh Twinsouls. That should be plenty!....for now.
  22. Simple but awesome conversions. Love it. Can't wait to see what you for the Zombie Dragon. Heavily considered it for my own Soulblight.
  23. Well, I did not finish what I pledged, mostly due to a hair brain shift. The pledge already was a spur of the moment project, literally a random pickup for the challenge. Not my best idea, but it was fun. Didn't even use them in the tourney! With the New Year, I am starting on a bigger and more thought out project. More info soon, might even start a blog that I've considered for years now. lol Here is where my rats lay for now, will stay for a while but they are on the list of side projects to cleanse the palette later.
