  1. The spear/harpoon head is very similar in style to the weapon the guy on the sky cutter chariot (champion dude) is holding, I think it's more likely to be something tied to Aelves than Duardin considering its a spear
  2. Is this actually happening? Take some screenshots and send them to me please. This behaviour is complete not acceptable
  3. @pforson and @Rogue Explorator It's obvious you disagree, let's just leave it at that please and get back to giving constructive feedback on changes to the GH without arguing with each other. Thanks
  4. I still feel like this isn't something that needs fixing. The scenarios take care of balancing against 1 dimensional armies, and adding these kinds of restrictions just flat out breaks armies like beastclaw raiders, who are themed around having lots of big monsters! I think the better way to fix this is points adjustments or scenarios that mean armies full of monsters auto lose.
  5. Think about this one. 25% characters means I can't take my mawcrusha in 2k pt games, which would be awful I think for simplicity the system we have now is fine tbh. Adding these restrictions means you won't see so many cool armies, and I don't think it would work at all with the battalions we have now either
  6. Lets make sure this thread remains on point and respectful. Thank you
  7. So month 2 comes to a close, and we've had our first casualty! Jon has dropped out, realising he would not be able to complete the second month in a row, and having lost all motivation (despite our group bullying motivating him senseless) he has invoked the £50 buy out clause in order to avoid all further fines. He has assured us he will try and get SOME painting done, but we will have to see! Gordrakk, Fist of Gork So here he is! Finished, based, completed. No fine for me this month! Apologies for the photography, I am terrible at it. I am really happy with how he turned out. I'm certainly not the best painter, and this guy certainly came with his challenges. The base for me is the real game changer here. My old basing scheme was very flat and boring, and was done with the painted model already glued to the base, meaning I was limited to what I could do without messing up my model. Having the base and model done separately gave me more options with the base, and I could add the rocks and have it a little more interesting. I had exactly the same issues with Troll Slayer orange on Gordrakk as I did on the Maw-Krusha, so future models will not feature it as it's just a pain to use! I really like how the black on his shoulders turned out, as it was a way of painting black I hadnt used before, but I will continue to use it on the rest of the army as the challenge moves forwards. As promised in my last post, here is a list of all the paints used to paint this model, in case you like certain parts of the scheme and want to try them yourself. All colours are GW colours. Format - Area - Base, Wash (if used), Layer, Highlight (if used) Maw-Krusha Underbelly & Wings - Death World Forest, Athonian Camoshade, Nurgling Green, Ogryn Camo Darker Flesh - Castellan Green, Agrax Earthshade, Loren Forest, Straken Green Teeth & Spines - Rakarth Flesh, Seraphim Sepia, Ushabti Bone Silver Metal - Leadbelcher, Nuln Oil, Ironbreaker, Runefang Steel Leather Straps - Rhinox Hide, Gorthor Brown Orange Armour - Troll Slayer Orange, Fuegan Orange, Fire Dragon Bright, Runefang Steel (Weathering/Chipping) Gordrakk, Fist of Gork Flesh - Warboss Green, Athonian Camoshade, Warboss Green, Skarsnik Green Orange Armour - Jokaero Orange, Fuegan Orange, Troll Slayer Orange, Fire Dragon Bright, Runefang Steel (Weathering/Chipping) Black Armour - Stegadon Scale Green, Nuln Oil, Skavenblight Dinge, Dawnstone, Runefang Steel (Weathering/Chipping) Teeth & Bone - Rakarth Flesh, Seraphim Sepia, Ushabti Bone Silver Metal - Leadbelcher, Nuln Oil, Ironbreaker, Runefang Steel Dark Leather Straps - Rhinox Hide, Agrax Earthshade, Gorthor Brown Light leather Straps - Zandri Dust, Agrax Eartheshade, Ushabti Bone Wood - Dryad Bark, Agrax Earthshade, Gorthor Brown Base Main body of base - Agrellan Earth, Agrax Earthshade, Karak Stone, Screaming Skull, White Scar Rocks - Karak Stone, Screaming Skull, White Scar Flock - Citadel Dead Grass So there we have it, month 2 finished, 700 points of beast, which means I'm not behind in the overall challenge from doing nothing in month 1! Next months commitment is 5 Brutes and a Weirdnob Shaman, giving me 1000pts of painted Ironjawz by the end of September! Thanks for reading
  8. Month 1 Recap So the first month is done, how did the club get on? Well if you read my last entry you'll know I failed spectacularly by getting nothing painted. I'm pleased to say that I'm not alone! I was joined in my failure by Jon and Will, so there's £60 for terrain already! Jon and I fall into a special category of "set ourselves way too much to paint then make excuses about it". We both set ourselves somewhere in the region of 40 models to paint, which was just silly. Make sure you check out the blogs of the rest of the group here This months target was far more suitable, and also makes up for getting nothing painted last month! Month 2 - Gordrakk, Fist of Gork An absolute beast at 700 points, and by far my favourite model ever released by GW. I decided pretty quickly that I loved the colour of the Maw-Krusha on the box art (cabbage be damned, green is awesome), but I was going to leave the face mask off. My Ironjawz would be painted in the orange scheme in the battletome, Zedekks weirdladz! As soon as I saw it I decided that was the scheme I would be painting my army in. The added bonus of both these decisions is that orange and green work really well together! So onto the maw-krusha! Unfortunately I changed phones in August, and lost all my WIP pics I had of the skin, because I'm an idiot who didn't think to transfer any pictures... As I'm currently blogging at work, I can't remember exactly which colours I used for the skin right now, but I will be sure to make sure I include a list of paints in my finished post. The skin is all dry brushing, except for the blend between the two shades of green. I made up a glaze with the highlight colour I used for the scaly skin using the colour and Lahmian medium to bring the two shades of green together. This is the first time I've used a glaze, and I am so so pleased with the result! It took a few layers, but i almost feel like I cheated with the blend it was so simple! All the teeth and spines are painted exactly as the Ironjawz painting guide suggest, and they are a fantastic contrast to the green. @Chris Tomlin was the inspiration for the lips on this guy, where I used a purple glaze to tint the lips a different colour to make sure the mouth didn't get lost in the rest of the green. With the green and bone sections finished, next inline was the orange! According to the painting guide (which if you can't tell I made good use of!) you should use Troll Slayer orange as the base, and highlight with Fire Dragon Bright. Now, I don't know if I just had a bad batch of it, but Troll Slayer orange is bloody awful! I couldn't get it to cover well at all! I tried building up many layers of troll slayer, I tried building from a red base coat (I didn't have an orange one available at the time), but no matter what the coverage was terrible and looked really streaky. In the end I used washing and dry brushing to get the area covered as evenly as possible, which was a little messier than I was after. After adding some weathering to try and make the orange look as un-awful as possible, it was onto the tidying up the orange that I had got on the green, and then onto the final details. My photography isn't up to much, but here is the maw-krusha finished ready for Gordrakk. After finishing this guy I went down to my local games store and picked up some Jokaero Orange so that hopefully painting Gordrakks armour isn't as paintful as the armour sections on our friend here. Overall though, I'm really pleased with how he turned out, a few new techniques successfully applied to this chap, so he's come out nicely. Onto Gordrakk! Disaster! I managed to somehow miss this part of the model when I was building it, resulting in a gurt big hole in his leg! Luckily I was able to find it in my bits box and sort it out. Having painted quite a few orcs, I've settled on what I think is my favourite skin tone for these dudes; - Base: Warboss Green - Wash: Athonian Camoshade - Layer: Warboss Green - Highlight: Skarsnik Green This gives a bright, but slightly dirty green which I just love. Pictured is the green after the wash stage. I am painting the bulk of his armour in the same orange as is on the maw-krusha (yaaay...), with some black thrown in to break it up. I also decided to try the new black recipe that comes on the box for him, which starts with Stegadon scale green and a nuln oil wash. I had the exact same issues with troll slayer orange, even over a Jokaero orange base, so I've decided to change the recipe for the rest of the army, but on this model I'll just have to make the most of it, as I was running out of time for the month! This guy has so much detail on him, I am constantly finding more stuff that I have missed! Here is the last WIP shot of the month, all the base colours in place for the armour. This was actually taken before I started having the troubles with Troll Slayer orange on him, so the orange looks smooth here, which is why I'm going to drop troll slayer orange when I come to do the rest of the army. Next post will be the finished model, and I'll make sure I put the list of paints used in case anyone wants it. Hopefully I can avoid a fine this month!
  9. It's been a while since I last posted, I'd love to say I've been really busy and had loads of stuff that has gotten in the way of hobby, but the fact is I've just been really really lazy. Fortunately for me my local gaming group are keen motivators, finding that delicate balance between getting me to paint and making me feel small and insignificant! So, whats new? Tale of Gamers! With AoS being fairly new, and having taken on some fresh blood recently, we decided to run a tale of gamers style painting challenge so we could get a decent sized force painted up. If you fail to paint what you commit to at the beginning of the month, then £20 MUST be paid into the club's kitty as a fine, and some tasty new terrain will be bought with the proceeds! The challenge started with 8 of us, 3 doing Order, 3 doing destruction and 2 doing Chaos. This blog over the next few months will be following my progress with this challenge, I'll try and do a mid-month update with WIP pictures with a final post at the end of the month with my finished commitments. The other guys in the challenge are blogging on the club website, and you can find all their stuff here. So on to month 1! Month 1 was going to be huge! The challenge officially started in July, and I was signed up to Reign of Stars in August, and I wanted to take my Ironjawz with me to that. So the challenge was laid out, 2000(ish) pts of green fury tabletop ready. The plan was to get everything base coated and washed, and then as the challenge progressed, return to the army and get everything up to my usual "standard". Here is what I had laid out in front of me: Gordrakk, Fist of Gork Megaboss Warchanter Weirdnob Shaman 2 x 5 Brutes 3 Goregruntas 3 x 10 Ardboys A monumental challenge, that's a huge amount of stuff to paint in 1 month, I was either going to arise victorious from a paint-soaked hole somewhere in the heart of Dorset, or I was going to get nothing done. I got nothing done... Literally nothing. I gave myself so much to do, I didn't even know where to start. I had to give my place away at Reign of Stars as I had no army to take and I'm £20 out of pocket due to the fine of not getting my commitment done. After a significant amount of "motivation" from our clubs WhatsApp chat, I decided that I would more realistic next month. Fingers crossed for month 2?

  11. Is there any information in the book about points being updated in the future?
  12. I think the key thing to remember is that this is only a very limited snippet of the generals handbook. We've been discussing this on the clubs whatsapp group since this post went up, and while some of us are not too keep on the concept of bringing in a "core tax" (myself included, I love the freedom of play) we don't know what will be "battleline" and what won't be, there could be a very large pool of "battleline" units and could have very little effect on the way people build armies. We also have the option to simply ignore these restrictions if we want to, and just use the points (assuming you want to do that as well)
