  1. Finished up a couple of my Spirit Hosts and thought they looked a little monotone and flat. Decided to throw in some yellow to pop them out a bit. What do you all think? Good call or too much?
  2. I love this guy's stuff: Akad Painting Studio
  3. I was browsing the web looking at painted figs as research for an upcoming project I am planning and it got me thinking about what kind of painter I want to be when I grow up (because apparently painting for 15 years is not enough time to get good). There are so many talented people out there, but Louise Sugden's stuff just speaks to me. I love her use of bright colors and high contrast. Darren Latham is another for me. His stuff is the epitome of GW's clean style in my mind. Which miniature painters speak to you?
  4. Man this future release from Punga minatures has me stoked. This is a vampire pirate fantasy football team but the conversion potential is fantastic. I think the kickstarter is supposed to get going soon.
  5. Not AOS, but here is the reason my April pledge was so low. The slough is real.
  6. Thx for the input guys. Grey it is!!! @Lowki, @Artobans Ghost, @Sttufe and @Jymmy
  7. Which base color do you guys prefer here, grey or black?
  8. Has anybody picked up some of these models from Punga? They look fantastic but I would love to see some real life pics or hear a couple user reviews before I pull the trigger and buy a bunch. http://pungaminiatures.com/ratman-warriors/
  9. Here is what I went with, harkening back to an old empire army I had.
  10. I have a bunch of 40k orks to get through this month, but I am at least going to finish this unit of Spirit Hosts.
  11. +1 to this. I have to say that I loved the March contest and want to thank you guys for putting it together and for all the members that contributed. It jump started my hobby fire and has skyrocketed my engagement with the forum again. Thanks all, you rock.
  12. I see your point, having to have a couple of books definitely sucks. I just feel that given the choice between that and having to wait years between updates as was the old way, I will take some rules bloat.
  13. I have actually really enjoyed the Psychic Awakening approach in 40k. It has breathed new life and excitement into armies that were most likely years away from getting traditional updates. Just imagine if a Psychic Awakening style AOS supplement dropped some new battalions and other goodies for older armies like Legions of Nagash, would be sweet!!!!!
  14. I have other armies that I have gotten up to tabletop standard, but goblins were always one of favorites, so I want to really knock them out of the park and take the entire army to my highest standard. That's a great idea but the daunting reality of that has kept them all gray.
  15. I have been pretty good at getting most of my stuff painted, but my big grey shame is my goblin army. I keep wanting to make them my highest level painted army but that has just resulted in my pushing them off and never starting. So now I have over 4,000 points of shame.
  16. The quarantine has been painting nirvana for me. I have had an extra hour or two a day to sink into the hobby and it has paid off. Splitting time between AOS and 40K projects, I have finished 20 Ork boys and and almost 20 clan rats (what can I say I have been in horde mode). Have also cranked out a couple super heroes for Marvel Crisis Protocol as palate cleansers (Modok and Red Skull).
  17. Digging the project. I love dragonforge bases, but the time it takes to get them in always kills me. If he got stuff out quicker he would have made a couple house payments off me.
  18. 9 is the bare minimum and probably not quite enough. The Deadwatch battalion makes you run three units and if you are super Flayer heavy you probably need at least 3 units of them for battle line too. That puts you at 3 units if 3. Ok but not optimal. Most of the competitive Blisterkin builds run units of 6,3 and 3.
  19. I don’t mind the new ads a bit. They asked for donations, probably did not get enough, then put up some ads to cover their costs. I got no problem with that whatsoever.
  20. Most matt varnishes are not that durable. The most common practice for a good hard seal is to hit a model with a good gloss varnish (which is much more durable) then put a coat of matt varnish on over that to get rid of the shine.
  21. Test model for some Iron Jawz to go along with my Bonesplitterz in a Big Waaagh. Was a blast to paint up and was happy with how he turned out. Just need to start grinding on his friends.
  22. Looks like Big Waaghhh lists are picking up steam. This weekend Big Waaghh lists took the top spot at both the New Zealand Masters and Frozen Empires. Here are both the list from the Honest Wargamer: https://thehonestwargamer.com/aos-results-2nd-december-2019/ Really interesting that neither list runs Gordrakk but instead builds Waaghh points with Chanters and Shamans. One list is mostly an Ardfist build splashing 30 Arrowboyz while the other is basically an Ironjawz Ironfist build. I like that the Waaghh is getting some good play now, though the Bonesplitterz player in me wishes these lists had more naked orcs in them.
  23. Not exactly AOS related, but I bought the new Marvel Crisis Protocol starter box and spent last night putting the models together and holy cow they made me remember how spoiled we are with GW kits. The models are pretty nice but so dang fiddly I was cursing like a sailor the entire time I was getting the things assembled.
