  1. Any indication if this is free forever? I remember reading something about a temporary free beta version before it disappears behind a paywall.
  2. Unfortunately the model seems to have been working to bring in the long term profits for 40k for years. I guess the GW gamble is if the same will work for AoS? Or maybe the gamble was a few years ago when they thought if it'd be worth giving away the rules and scrolls for free instead of charging for then, so they can get us all hooked and then start charging. The first hit is always free as the drug dealers used to say 😞 And they've given us lots of free hits to make sure we're hooked.
  3. Might be worth posting this as a question in the painting and modelling section.
  4. The feeling on here at the time was that this is exactly what they did.
  5. I play with the (digital) BT but I use the freely available warscrolls on the freely available app (rest in peace) *all the time* to check both my units' and the opponent's warscrolls. So this looks more and more likely to result in (another) straight downgrade of my experience with AoS For me money is tight. I rely on the free warscrolls. I can justify £25 for the Cities tome, just, but if I then have to buy the SCE and Sylvaneth tomes to have the rules for all my units then that's £75 just for the rules for my army. And against family finances I can't justify that. Even worse is not being able to research what my opponents might be bringing to the table. Am I meant to buy the tome for every faction I might face?
  6. Thanks! That's really helpful, and the photo too. The neck issue is the easier way round - easier th remove the neck from the Acolyte body or the new head and smooth the join with greenstuff than to have to greenstuff a whole new neck. Current thinking is to use the World Eaters heads and then I can get a Aspiring Deathbringer and de-khorne it and switch the axe for a sword to have as my unit leader as I think it'll match well.
  7. Planning some upcoming purchases - I am thinking of getting a box of 20 Kairic Acolytes. 10 will be made up as intended, to serve Tzeentch, perhaps I'll bless a few with minor mutations. The other 10 I am thinking of making into an alternitive gladiator type take on Freeguild Greatswords for my Living City army by trimming or smoothing off the obvious Tzeentch symbols and bits. They will obviously need new heads and my current plan is to get some heads from Forgeworld for them, either Stormcast heads or World Eaters Legion MKII (maybe trimming the 'horns') off. My question is if any of you fine folk have tried anything like this before and if you have any thoughts on how well this would work head size to body size wise?
  8. This is sad news. Do Tzeentch armies still get access to the 'general chaos' stuff with the Mark of Chaos ability?
  9. Have Disciples of Tzeentch been un-Gor-ed? Sorry if this has already been asked but I can't find it and the AOS.3 threads are too unwieldly to go back over. With the new 3.0 rules on battalions does this mean that Disciples loose the option of the Phantasmagoria of Fate Battalion and does this mean that the various types of beastmen (who aren't bird-beastmen) can no longer be part of a Tzeentch army (except as allies?) I mean I'm obviously all for change, but this would suck...
  10. Do we know yet if the basic AOS 3 rules will be free like they were with AOS 2? And if the warscrolls will be free for download/on the App?
  11. Hello, this is a great post and seems a good place for my Noob Death question. Are all forces or followers of Death Dead/Undead or are there currently alive people who serve Death? I know that Cities of Sigmar can have wizards (Mages?) who are from the Realm of Death, where do they fit in? Do they worship and get their power from Nagash? Are they alive or undead?
  12. Thanks both. I am slowly building a Living City army based mainly on models I'd like to (mod and) paint rather than being in any way competetive. I like the look of the lizards and lizard chariot but really dislike the lore around what I guess previously were dark elves. So I'm going to try to give them a bit more of a wood elf/Wanderer look and wanted to fluff-up where they got thier lizards/dragons/dinosaurs from. I think I may well just go with "tamed" lizards from the forest.
  13. Within the lore of AOS are Seraphon Cold Ones and Order Serpentis' Drakespawn the same creatures? Or different but related or are they totoally different beasts with different origins that happen to look similar? And what are their origins? Are they magically created creatures, tamed dinosaurs? Or something different?
  14. It's not about what is plausable, but I can imagine Lightening Empowered Angelic Warriors and Celestial Lizard People, but I can't imagine my 20 crossbowmen firing into my dwarves in chaotic hand to hand combat with skaven and taking out skaven but not hitting a single dwarf.
  15. I am not suprised this hasn't changed but I am disappointed. I realise that playing AOS there is a lot of rules trump logic and I get that because it can make the game simpler and flow better. However I have always found it so jarring to my imersion in the game that I can send a volley or arrows or crossbow bolts into the middle of a melee clash with no risk of hurting my own side. It just drags me right out of being involved in a fantasy battle and into 'you're playing a dice game'. (And I'm the same with my archers being able to draw their bows and fire at the enemy at the same time they are sword fighting with them).
  16. Apparently Verdant blessing is not technically part of Lore of the Deepwood, so alas my city is still restircted to one Wyldwood (via a Treelord Ancient) So maybe not worth the points or money investment after all.
  17. Thanks for the reply. My dream also got shot down on the Sylvaneth thread. Where can I find a reliable list of Lore of the Deepwood spells (I don't have the Sylvaneth Bettletome) - my googling came up with a list which does include verdant blessing which I now gather is wrong.
  18. Sorry,my bad. When I googled Lore of the Deepwood I found a list of spells that included Verdant Blessing. Oh well, I had a few minutes of dreaming of new possibilities for my Green Alliance.
  19. 275 for a wizard for my Living City who can cast Verdant Blessing makes me smile.
  20. Quick question to show my noobness - Is a Warsong Revenant availble to my Living City as part of my Sylvaneth 1 in 4? And if so does this mean I can now have a wizard who can cast Verdant Blessing? (Warsong's warscroll says they know all the spells from Lore of the Deepwood). If I'm right there are lots of good implications for a Living City army being able to have more than one Wyldwood.
  21. 1) I gather that Stormcasts and Sylvaneth in a Living Cities army gain the Cities of Sigmar keyword, does this replace the Stormcast Eternals/Sylvaneth keywords or is it in addition? 2) If it replaces, then does this make any abilities and spells that affect friendly Stormcast/Sylvaneth useless? Or does the keyword in the ability/spell description also change to Cities of Sigmar? 3) Do any Dryads spawned in a Wyld Wood by a Branchwraith also gain the Cities of Sigmar keyword? 4) Can Dryads be spawned as above if this will take the total mumbers of Sylvaneth units over the 1 in 4 limit? (either in total or minus any Sylvaneth units that have been totally killed off earleir in the battle) e.g. 3 of my 12 units on the table are Sylvaneth, would this block me from summoning a 4th? 5) Can the army make use of Stormacast or Sylvaneth battalions? (provided of course the associated units don't break the 1 in 4 limit)? 6) Has GW yet provided any clarity on the "Can Sylvaneth magic users in a Living City army use Verdant Blessing?" debate? The googling I've done seems split between yes and no and lots of calls for a FAQ, has this been forthcoming? 7) Can a Living Cityarmy have Stormcast and/or Sylvaneth as traditional allies in additon to those in the 1 in 4 non allies role? 8 ) Does ANYONE actually like the Branchwriath model or does everyone kitbash a Branchwych or Dryad mini? Sorry it's a lot but they are of a theme and didn't want to spam the forum with 7 different but related questions.
  22. Thanks everyone, great answers as usual! I will try and remember to post pics when I've done the models.
  23. I am planning a Tzeentch army, mainly to satisfy my urge to kitbash and mutation-mod models. I am planning to have a unit of Tzaangors made up of prior enemies who have been blessed by the Boon of Mutation spell in previous battles and also a Chaos Spawn or two who used to be other things before experiencing a Bolt of Change spell. This should give me fluff free reign to kitbash various models from other factions with mutations (yay greenstuff!) and include then in my Tzeetch army. But this got me thinking, what happens fluffwise to a Stormcast who has been blessed by a Tzeetch spell to become either a Tzaangor or a Chaos Spawn? Under normal circumstances a defeated Stormcast gets zapped back home and re-forged. But if they are turned into a mutant what happpens? Is their soul reutuned to Sigmar while some chaos spirit controls their mutated body? Or if they are stuck as the mutuant then when they die as a mutant do then then return to Sigmar? Or Can their physical body even last long as a mutant or would their corrupted body be quickly reclaimed by Sigmar and teleported back for cleansing and re-forging? Is anyhting of this covered in any lore, stories or other fluff?
  24. Thanks loads for all the info and suggestions, really helpful and I think I will be doing something Tzeentchy. I like the idea of having the wizard who can turn enemies into mutants - a great excuse for me to make mutant models of skinks, orks, Stormcasts etc. I am also intrigued by Kramer's suggestion of people 'mutated' not by Chaos but by the powerful magic and changes to reality as you get nearer the edge of a realm. I would have thought Sigmar would frown on such things but maybe his views of Order are less harsh than those of the Emporer of Mankind. It means I can also get creative with my Living City army too.
