  1. Thanks for the TMM tutorial. I paint a lot of silver, so this will be a good addition to my arsenal.
  2. From a you tube perspective, I like Squidmar. He and some of his mates are very, very good. Darren Latham is win as well. If you are into terrain, check out The Terrain Guy. Man, does that guy make some awesome scenery and easy tutorials.
  3. I have two options for this month: Start on the Shadows Over Hammerhal set (playing this with my kids at the moment) Paint the Dreadfleet Not sure which I will do yet. Guess it will be a surprise.
  4. @Arael Yeah cool. Thats one big barbarian. I just finished the megaboss and he is a big unit. Look forward to see what you do with him.
  5. Sweet model mate. Who makes that one? Looks really tall as well, at least relatively speaking
  6. Beautiful. Really well done model.
  7. Well, just over halfway through the month and I am done. Head over to my plog to see the final tally of all the warclans. For this months challenge though: Megaboss: And Bonesplitterz with warpaint now: Comments welcome. Not sure what to start next, but am taking some time away from painting for a couple of weeks. Had enough for a while.
  8. Part 2 of this plog, I present the Ironjawz. These guys really inspired me when they dropped (Maw Krusha for the win) but they have taken me a long time to finish for a number of reasons, mostly because as I went along the paint scheme altered. Anyway, they look pretty good so here we go: Group Shot again: The big kahuna, Balogog himself, on Maw Krusha. Love this model and he is so great on the battlefield. So good. Anyway, when he feels like perambulating, here is the Megaboss on foot. This was a lot of fun too, and I tried to build up the base a bit more and added the Chimera head, coz reasons. Next up are the Ard boyz. These have been here before, so just a group shot. Hated painting these... The Gore Gruntaz. They look great, hit hard but take forever to paint. The Weirdnob Shaman. This guy was fun, haven't had a lot of reason to use him yet. And his running mate, the Warchanter. So valuable in game, really need two of them... The Brutez. Again, these look great but take forever to paint each one. I converted 5 40k Nobz to run as Brutez and it works ok. So that is the Ironjawz. I can run a Brutefist or Ironfist. The IJ do the heavy lifting in the army and are pretty good at it too. Lastly, the ancillary units: Gargant. Ok, he is purple. He was a chaos gargant, but I sold my entire chaos collection recently (outside the WH:Q stuff) and kept this guy to use in this army, or SoB when that comes around. I did take off the chaos icons and added some orruky stuff to him. Yes, those are decals. No, I haven't worked out how to blend them properly. Finally, the Fimir. So dirty they discontinued this line and that I didn't get the Noble before he disappeared. The fact I can't ally them with the Warclans anymore is also a downer. And that, folks, is it. Thanks to everyone here and elsewhere for the support and nice comments. I am sure I will revisit some of these models in time, but for now, Balogogs painting journey is over. I will add battle reports and photos here as they happen (once lockdown ends...) and when I add more units (there are some heroes to do and some more BS models I would like to do) but that is it for now. I have a few projects that will be coming up, so if you like my stuff, keep an eye out and hopefully that will be good too. Peace all, happy painting.
  9. Alright, so almost 3 years to the day (tomorrow actually) my painting journey with the Orruks Warclans is over (for now). From starting with the idea of a large mixed destruction list morphed into a mixed orruk list and then finally into the Warclans we now have. It has been a long journey with multiple distractions in between; however I now have a game ready army that is what I want it to be, with enough options to play pretty much any way that comes along. My skills have improved as I practiced, and I think the final army looks solid and cohesive when the whole thing is on the table. Without further ado, I will showcase the entire army as each unit and hero (apart from the chariot, the photos failed on that one...) Group Shot: Ironjawz all: Bonesplitterz all: Ok, yes, I repurposed normal greenskins with Bonesplitterz bits to make the majority of this army, but it works for me... Wurggog Prophet: I love this guy and am really happy with how it came out. I think he is one of the best character models I have painted Savage Big Boss: This guy has been here before, but he has warpaint now Wardokk: This guy is good fun too Arrowboyz are up next. These are kit-bashed a little to make them a bit more Savage and some warpaint to make it fit. The orange really does it for me with all that green... Next up, the boarboyz. Again, these are sourced from greenskins with some Savage bits added to make it work. Played as Maniakz these guys are a lot of fun Lastly, the Savage Boyz. This was the last unit I finished with their warpaint (just this morning) but they were the first unit I started. Figures. So that ends part 1 with the Bonesplitterz. I am overall very pleased with them. I make a decent 1k list with these and they help fill out the warclans list with a bit of magic, shooting and speed. Ironjawz and the ancillary units next up.
  10. That staff is quite excellent. Nice work
  11. Just looking at the GW webstore, the biggest Knights are AUD 280, Armiger 125, ones in between 185. Wraithknights are 125 as well, which is a bargain (relatively speaking of course). I think the KoS might be a good guess at the big guys prices, at AUD 230 a pop. I agree, I think the big ones will be Bonegrinder/Mawkrusha level points, Brodd himself might be up near Gordrakk or beyond. Imperial Knight armies are normally (well, when I used to play 40k, which is a while back) 5 dudes, so up to near AUD 1500 once you get everything else (again, can't remember their points cost but in a 1750 game you could squeeze in 5). 10 Aleguzzlers would be awesome to see, 1600 points of falling over when charging...
  12. If I have one concern about this release, its the potential price tag. Knights and wraithknights aren't cheap, and seeing the prices on some of the newer big models has me potentially a little nervous. It will be awesome, but colour me cautious...
  13. I too am excited for this. I love the current gargant, and the forgeworld one would add a nice bit of variety. I think this army will be a bit like Knights armies in 40K; with the points for a couple of the big fellas and perhaps 4 of the smaller ones to fill battle line requirements. The Aleguzzler is about, what, 160 points now, so 4 is 640, with the big boys maybe 400 each (Mawkrusha comparable perhaps) that 1400 odd points straight up. Purely guessing of course but it would make sense to my mind, especially if these are as big as they appear to be.
  14. So, I will complete my megaboss on foot. On top of that, I will add warpaint to my 20 odd bonesplitterz. If I get that lot complete, I will start either the dreadfleet or the left over models from warhammer quest.
  15. @elfhead maybe next months. I was pretty happy with my Wurggog for this months painting contract, but I just don't have the kind of skills that you and others here have. But anyway, I love this thread and am really impressed with what you have achieved in this. Its wonderful.
  16. I sold most of my shame... before this all kicked off...
  17. @ColsBols I think you are correct. I contacted the digital@gw email so hopefully they will look at it soon.
  18. Hi all, I use the Azyr app and I think it is in error. I was planning to use the Firelance Temple Host from my Seraphon (I have never done an all cav/monsters type list) but the app is now telling me that the Batallion can't be used in matched play. I am certain from reading the battle tome that this is an error? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app but the same thing comes up. Tested the list on warscroll builder and it doesn't error there. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  19. Big guy looks great. Base sets it off very well.
  20. Mate, this is very fine work. That diorama is top notch, really captures the feeling of the thing (and yes, that is one of the worst marauder heads...). Your entry to the painting comp is what stops me entering lol. So very well done, the cloak particularly. Really dig the colour scheme.
  21. @JH.Miniatures thanks for that one. makes it easy to understand. And those Ikea lamps and glass cases on the left of screen are very helpful things.
  22. @Artobans Ghost to get a dirty white, depends on how dirty and how white... check out the citadel paint up but I get to get a dirty-ish white: rakarth flesh, karak stone, seraphim sepia, ushabti bone or even pallid witch flesh could work. for a cold white: mechanicus grey, drakenhof night shade, mechanicus grey (avoiding recesses) administratum grey, celestra grey, ulthuan grey, maybe white scar to highlight if very thin and specific. hope that helps a little. the other option is battle damage. Darren Latham's iron hands yellow shows a really neat technique for (relatively) easy battle damage that would break up that white and dirty it up if that is what you are after. On another note, pledge as complete as it can be. Wurggog prophet and 5 Brutes completed for this month: Ok, so not really Brutes. These are 40K Nobs that I have converted. My thoughts on these is that they are newly promoted Brutes, bigger than Ard Boyz and harder but not as well armoured (yet) as the full on Brutes. Breaks up the aesthetic anyway. Really happy with the Prophet. Lots of holes in this one but manage to get around it a bit. Comments are criticism welcome. Only the Megaboss on foot to go and then some warpaint on my Bonesplitterz and I am calling this army done. At 3000 odd points, thats enough green for a while...
  23. Just looking at the faces, (yes it is a very close shot) but i think the contrast between skin and highlight is a little to much for the Brutes. maybe a glaze to tie the two together might tone that back a bit. Love the scheme and i think the blue for the cabbage is great. For bones, i start with grey (mechanicus) then a lighter grey, karak stone, seraphim sepia, ushabti bone. works for me.
  24. are you going to have a model seated on the throne? i wanted to do something like that with this model but nothing is really big enough to sit in it comfortably.
