  1. I would use Greatsword bits if you have it, it is quite a bit more epic than the guard set. You would need to make some shields though, but I have found that half a Stormcast shoulderpiece is just as large as a smallish shield (and rerolling ones fits smallish shields). Find a Freeguild player, he or she is bound to have spare Greatsword bits (the amount of bits in it is bordering rediculousness). My pistoleers/outriders are riding modified gryph-hound/chargers, matched to wood elf horse bodies. That's a lot of effort in cutting, but I wanted to make a heavy gryph theme. The front quarters of the gryph hounds are deceptively large, and minimal shortening of the hind legs is needed to make it even. I use Bretonnian Knights of the Realms and Glade Riders as riders, as they are a bit smaller than the outriders/pistoleers. In effect, I'll have the following stuff: - Karl Franz on griffin - Demigryphs (with rear paws replaced by hooves (made from Bretonnian greathelms) to match the gryph chargers if I want to use them later) - Quarter gryphs (the outriders/pistoleers) - Gryph hounds (debating whether these will get hooves on rear paws as well for consistency) and a lot of feathered hats.
  2. Yeah, the "battleline if" should be extended for the new allegiances, it would allow for more varied builds. It need not be removed, just extended to include the cities they feature in.
  3. Handy to useless is internet-speak. Having units cost a bit more isn't going to make them useless, it's just going to make them less desirable. If I have an army of Freeguild Guard and they lose their large units discount, I'd be annoyed, but they'll still hurt and tarpit enemies.
  4. Maybe Brazillian waxing was not the right kind of waxing? I think we'll see a reprint of Firestorm, but hope there'll be a way to add some stuff (through batallions? Through generals?) to the existing Freeguild allegiance abilities, and/or the city allegiance gives enough options that the tradeoff is worthwhile.
  5. Sorry, I meant the reply as a joke as well, I have no authority over what's allowed or not. I don't even have enough of a mustache to assert that authority without having it.
  6. My wishlist: - Base set without Stormcast (I already have those) - Beasts of Chaos warband - Wanderers warband - Free Peoples warband (especially Ghur themed, would be brilliant!) - White Lions themed warband (would fit Ghur perfectly) - Ogor or Bonesplitters warband (again, fitting Ghur) - Daughters of Khaine warband
  7. I still see the Glade Guard as available, but now the White Lions are no longer available. Uncertain times indeed. I promised myself I would not buy new plastic before I had built and painted a few dozen more, but maybe I'll have to get a few more (not wanderers though).
  8. That I agree with. I am hesistant to say the FP or Aelves will get another battletome soonish, they have received none so far, but I can hope! Having options to include units from other factions would give aelves a fighting chance as their roster fills a lot more, and similarely having options for Ironweld, College or devoted working well with the main army and a few batallions would help FP and Disposessed. I am not entirely sure we'll see that, but a batallion that introduces a few out-of army units and changes their keywords to work with the main army would be very nice!
  9. I don't know about that, the guards have save 5+, which indicates demi cuirass, while the crossbowmen and handgunners have 6+, indicating some armour, but limited to jacks and helmets. Stances for missile troops are also dissimilar from melee troops.
  10. Yeah, the guards and handgunners are not very pretty. Pistoleers/Outriders, Greatswords, generals (horse and griffin) and Demis on the other hand are. Just renewing the guards and crossbowmen/handgunners would be enough to update the line (and give the guards a militia option right from the box please)
  11. It would be interesting to get an alternate take on how you can compose armies that have enough restrictions and boons in them to keep the game balanced. It would also boost sales. "I currently have a slow shooty army, but if I use this allegiance, I get a buff to my speed, which will help put my army into postion. I'll need to add some units from faction Y though, but that's not too much of a hassle. " Then another book comes out, and with the inclusion of yet another few units, you can play the existing core of your army in yet another way. At some point, shifting the core army to the new models you purchased gets below the treshold, and you have two cores. If only you get a few units of faction Z, you can field them in allegiance 3 and 4... I worry that they are going to state "There's your battletome, stop whining" for the 14 factions that received their first in this book though, and leave it at that for the next three years.
  12. That is the simple answer, and I am actually okay with that if they reattach the lost limbs of the faction. They couldn't at first, because then the older armies would be more rounded than the new ones, but that's no longer an issue, so now I expected to see two aelven armies and one human army, with the disposessed being a bit of a wildcard. That is not what the tome seems to imply though.
  13. I think lumping almost all old elves, order humans and the disposessed dwarves together in a book would be a bit much, but then they added Kharadron and put Stormcast in, and now what will be the flavour of the battletome? I do agree the Disposessed, Devoted, Freeguild, Ironweld and College could be in one battletome, but to put all the older elves with them as well is a bit much. Disposessed being able to ally with other dwarves is fine and dandy, and I grudgingly accept that one or two Stormcast could sometimes fit a Freeguild army (but need to lose their shoulderpieces and get a better head before they fit aesthetically), but adding the 8 current old Aelves faction to that mix sounds a bit soupy. So one could be Disposessed, Ironweld, Freeguild, Devoted, College with rules about Stormcast, Kharadron and Fyreslayer inclusions, a second book could fit the Darkling Covens, Eldritch Council, Lion Rangers, Order Draconis, Order Serpentis, Phoenix Temple, Scourge Privateers, Shadowblades, Swifthawk Agents and Wanderers with rules about Idoneth or Khaine inclusions (I don't think the Sylvaneth would want to play). It looks like the book as proposed will try to fit rules for 16 current factions in it, which is madness, or more probably, blandness.
  14. So you say GW should have just deleted the other armies at the start of AoS? Which is a viable point of view, but no longer relevant, because we're a few years down the line and they still sell them.
  15. It's hard for GW to make new molds for Free people. Either they make something different from what they did, and it does not fit with the theme (as well as risking alienating existing players), or they make molds fitting the old ones, but not the direction they want to go in with the entire game. If they do make new molds, it'll be a bare minimum effort to keep a full line. Not that they'll try. I suspect a major reason for this book is the chance to toss out old molds without making new ones by combining factions, or by giving you options to patch the holes the retired models give (probably by filling it with Stormcast, they put three Stormcast on the cover, as opposed to two figures that actually needed a battletome).
  16. Ah yes, I now see this. That general has all sorts of character though, if I get myself a Halberd guard so I can use the other one, I'll be quite tempted to buy them. It would have been clearer if they gave the relevant warscrolls for download though.
  17. It might be, GW has a Flagellant they sell as a General, but he does not look one bit like a 4 save general.
  18. The choice for Freeguild sets is also abysmal, incomplete guards, or incomplete gunners with armour that does not fit the rules, and generals that all have loadouts that do not fit the choices people make, with one being a naked fanatic (which does not mesh with the save they have), and a dragon without a warscroll. Give us heads, cloaks, arms with alternate weapons or shields, make gorgets, alternate legs for the shoeless guy, heroic bannermen, flamboyant musicians, dramatic unit captains...
  19. I want to buy them as well, and might have, if FW had given them arms and, you know, actual blades. Now I need to break down a guard set so I can't make 20 swordsmen from them and a set of guards. Until it is sold as a complete set, I'll use Greatsword bodies for them at best.
  20. I have one of them, and already had 10 greatswords made from all sorts of stuff, and think I'd sooner buy another than a guard set, the greatsword models are just so much better. Looking at the Forgeword Mannan's blades they stand out as a lot better as well, the FW not being a complete unit, no spare parts and not as good looking for more money.
  21. I agree, I expect GW to use this to cut out a few old molds, and lore Karl Franz to be a patron saint of the cities so they won't have to update the models featuring the name. This could mean warpriests and witch hunters are more usable for Free Peoples, and certain city allegiances or battallions can get Aelves to play nice with each other.
  22. I like diversity in my models, the sergeants of my guards may be based on Greatsword models, and the Greatsword Guild Champion could be a General on foot with a great weapon. I am a serial converter though, having cut through over 50 Bretonnian Bowmen to date.
  23. If you have 20 from 2x10 boxes, you'll have bits to make it 30 with a few guard transformations. They are not as glorious, but it may be an option.
