  1. I´ve seen it played both ways. IMO it´s not clear. I play it to give every member of a unit the shooting attack and my opponents don´t really care.
  2. The Everchosen Book offers 4 new subfactions of which one – Munificient Wanderers – is right now the most often seen subfaction in competetive lists.
  3. It´s not clear. Rules as written say they can only use their own pool, but that rule is a 2.0 rule which GW didn´t address in a recent FAQ. On the other hand there is some really good stuff there: - forbid retreats - auto unbind (!!!) - 6" pile in moves from 6" away
  4. Hi all, I wonder what is the right interpretation of new Coalition Rules. The facts: FAQ states: "Page 58 – Allegiance Add the following battle trait: ‘LEGIONS OF CHAOS When an army dedicated to one of the Chaos Gods marches to war, it is often accompanied by hordes of Slaves to Darkness, snarling herds of beast-kin and other corrupted beings with similar goals. A Maggotkin of Nurgle army can include coalition units (see below) as follows: - 2 in every 4 units in the army can be a coalition unit from the Slaves to Darkness faction that has the Mark of Chaos keyword. Those units must be given the Nurgle Mark of Chaos keyword." Well, it clearly states "add" the follwing battle trait, meaning that the old Allegiance rules are still in play. Ie you can still include every single unit with a NURGLE keyword. That unit is then part of NURGLE allegiance which now should be read as "Maggotkin of Nurgle" allegiance (according to the FAQ). But if that is the case, why bother with coalition units? What do I overlook here?
  5. Regarding the Caolition Rules, Warhounds will get the Khorne Keyword as soon as they are part of a Khorne army. And it really doesn´t matter that the coherency rules changed. Because if you need them as a screen it´s ok if they will die. On the other hand, you can still daisy chain them an just at both ends you need to be sure that 3 of them are within 1" of 2 others, something like this: warhound warhound warhound warhound warhound warhound warhound warhound warhound warhound That´s still almost 30" of screening dudes! If at least one dies, ok, they did their job being a good screen and some of them may die due to coherency rules. Mayby all, but then they will give you a Bloodtithe point – and one of the cheapest ones! If none of them die, they are still in coherency and everthing is fine.
  6. IMO your army is too slow to just play the melee game. I´d either try to include a fast hero to be able to steal obcetives by summoning. Or I´d include Fecula (ie the Wurmspat) because she is hellish ressilient, brings an other unit (even if it is just 2 models) and can cast / dispel spells. Lord of Afflictions, Fecula and Harbinger of Decay are rather ressilient heroes. So maybe one of those as your general, if you´re concerned? EDIT: Chaos Warhounds! These are the best chaff we can get and now they even get the NURGLE keyword!
  7. But coherency rules simply make them even less of a threat.
  8. As has already been mentioned: allies. I regularly run them because IMO they are one of the best screening units due to low cost, high board coverage, auto 6" run (to get out of the way).
  9. First of all, IMO you can also go magic / shooting heavy instead of pure shooting. Magic is also kind of a "ranged" attack. It would offer more diverse builds. That beeing said, a lot of armies can be played shooty heavy, even with highly priced models. The problem might be to find an army that offers good shooting units as battleline. THe already mentioned Lumineth for example need to field a melee battleline unit to allow the use of a shooting battline unit. I do not know every single faction out there, but here are some ideas: Skaven can be played pure shooting with shooty battleline. The might be the most elite if you head towards Stormfiends which will become battleline in a Skryre army. Good artillerie and lots of different shooty units. They can dish out brutal ranged damage (even with magic) but there are times when the dice betray you and you will kill more models of your own than of your opponent. Stormcast Eternals also offer shooty battleline unit and they field one of the most destructive shooting units in the game (Raptors) which have some movement shenanigans with their birds. Fyreslayers can be build all shooty, though that is not their preferred playstyle. Auric Hearthguard become battleline with the use of a Runemaster. Not much diversity in models though. Tzeentch Daemons in their subfaction Eternal Conflaguration can be an all shooty force. Low model count, easy to paint yet nice looking models. Lots of different shooting units: Flamers, Exalted Flamers, Exalted Flamers on Chariots, Horrors. Also offer shooty "chaff" to secure your gunline from incoming charges. High mobility and god magic. Tzeentch Arcanites can also be played shooty heavy. Slaanesh now also offer a shooty battleline which you will find in a lot of lists. Though not much besides it. You can get a mounted shooty unit too but I think that´s all. Tempest´s Eye (Cites of Sigmar) offer some interesting shooting options. They can field imperial Pistoliers as battleline which offer a shooting attack but are also good in melee. Good synergy for shooting units and the possibility to include Stormcast and Kharadron units for a really large collectiong of shooting units. Living City combines shooting and ambush in a similar way to Beasts of Chaos, though with more potent shooting options. Ossiarch Bonereapers offer one of the best artillery pieces in the game. Though you need melee battleline. Highly elitish. Beasts of Chaos can also be played shooty heavy with Ungor Raiders and Tzaangor Skyfires. Ambush also is a cool rule which enhances you overall high mobility. No shooty battleline though. And don´t forget that you can also just play Grand Alliance Order and use everything you like modelswise. If I remember correctly Order is the only GRand Alliance that offers shooty battleline besides the Grots with bows (but they really don´t shoot that well). I guess it all comes down to model preferences. Go and get what you like the most.
  10. Hi, regarding our PRIESTS: I like to play rather PRIEST centric for my first games and I like to get a rating of our PRIESTS. I absolutely see the usefulness of a Runesmiter on foot (due to this deepstrike ability). But what about the Runesmiter on Magmadroth? Do you think he is any good? I love the Magmadroth.
  11. What about this for 1000 points? I´m not sure. I´m heavily undecided concerning the use of Belakor.
  12. Hi all, I regularly play against a friend of mine who is living rather far away from my home. Therefore I like to have easy to transport armies to face him. Now I was thinking about some Kharadron Overlords as a new project due to the fact that I really love the miniatures. So let´s say I´m heading towards a 1250 points Kharadron Force without any ships (due to transport reasons) – what would it look like? What would you include in such an army? My first idea is a force based on Endrinriggers and Thunderers in Barak Nar to make the Thunderers battleline. For some added manoeuvrability I thought about a Spell in a Bottle (Soulscream Bridge), though I´m not really sure whether it´s worth it or not. Something like Allegiance: Kharadron Overlords - Sky Port: Barak Nar Leaders Arkanaut Admiral (120) => I pretty much like the concept / model - General Aether-Khemist (90) - Artefact: Spell in a Bottle Battleline 10 x Grundstok Thunderers (240) 10 x Grundstok Thunderers (240) Units 6 x Endrinriggers (200) 6 x Endrinriggers (200) Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs Soulscream Bridge (100) Total: 1190 / 1250 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 0 / 200 Wounds: 75 Another idea is to run a Barak Thryng force, because I already own some Fyreslayers. Therfore I could include a unit of Hearthguard Berzerkers as well as a Runesmiter for some deepstrike possibilities. Something like: Allegiance: Kharadron Overlords - Sky Port: Barak Thryng Leaders Auric Runesmiter (120) - Runic Iron Endrinmaster with Dirigible Suit (190) - General Battleline 3 x Endrinriggers (100) 6 x Endrinriggers (200) 3 x Endrinriggers (100) Units 10 x Hearthguard Berzerkers (240) - Broadaxes 5 x Grundstok Thunderers (120) 5 x Grundstok Thunderers (120) Total: 1190 / 1250 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 0 / 200 Wounds: 75 ------------------------------------------- One thing I ask myself is: How valuable are Arkanaut Company? Should I replace 5 Thunderers and the free points to get 20 Arkanaut company?
  13. Hi, quick question regarding Kairos special rules. From his warscroll: "In addition, while friendly Wizardsare wholly within 18" of him, Kairos Fateweaver knows any spells on those Wizards’ warscrolls that are possible for him to cast." What does "that are possible for him to cast" really mean? What are some exceptions to this rule?
  14. Hi all, a couple questions regarding the Wurmspat: From the warscroll: "Unique. These units must be taken as a set for a total of 180 points. Although taken as a set, each is a separate unit" Does this mean, that... I can use the 2 Putrid Bilghtkings "The Wurmspat" for Gutrot Spume´s outflank ability? Because the warscroll doesn´t mention you have to deplay the wurmspat together with Fecula. I can include the Wurmspat (but not Fecula) into a Blightcyst battalion? Thanks!
  15. Thanks! Totally overlooked that fact. I think I´m going to start a Greyfyrd army very soon due to the coolness of such a project. Already love it.
  16. I have to ask it a second time, please respond: Warscroll builder lists Grimwrath Berzerkers as Leaders, while all my printed books as well as the FAQ list them as being NON LEADER. What is right here? Thanks in advance. HTG
  17. Why do you think the Grimwrath Berzerkers were nerfed? Second, you could play a Grimwrath Berzerker heavy force once (Greyfyrd Lodge?) but now it seems to me that this is no longer possible due to the fact Grimwrath Berzerkers became heroes. Is this right? Thanks!
  18. To be honest, it´s nothing I regularly think about. After more than 20 years of GW games I´m tired of these "competetive" discussions. IMO there are two ways: A) I want to play what I think is cool. Then I don´t think about competetiveness. B) I want to be somewhat competetive with my build. Then I go and get the competetive stuff. More often than not it´s not the stuff I already own. The older I become, the more I am pulled towards A. That being said if I wanted to run Belakor, I´d try to support him in a good way. If that means no battalion of a certain type, then no battalion. It´s just that easy.
  19. Just have in mind that a 50pts chaos spwan can be a MORTAL NURGLE SLAVES TO DARKNESS unit.
  20. IMO LoCA is now a toned down version of something that´s never been overly strong. Why, GW, why? I´m so dissapointed. I bought a book last year just to be able to play a mixed Daemons Legion and now I got a watered down version of it in a new book? No, GW, thanks! Keep your book. No interest anymore. And to be honest, why should I play LoCA when I can just play Grand Alliance Chaos? What is THE selling point of LoCA right now? Roughly 200 - 300 points of summoned models?
  21. Thanks all for your replies! It now comes down to (in no patricular order): Ogor Mawtribes (overall killyness, I´ve seen some batreps and this is THE definition of face smashing) Orruk Warclans (more tricks / deeper toolbox and that awesome ROGUE IDOL) Flesheater Courts (due to the advice here I had a glance on them, seem to be interesting – and that awesome looking spell Corpsemare Stampede which I´ve been a fan of since its release) Flesheater Courts are rather cheap to get right now due to two excellent boxed sets, Ogor Mawtribes can also build from a Start Collecting boxed set. Though I´m also thinking about Khorne => I already own a bunch of Khorgoraths because I really like the models, though they don´t seem to be that good Varanguard centric army, either Knights of the Empty Throne or Host of the Everchosen led by Archaon himself.
  22. Well, maybe you should have mentioned this in your starting post? 1500 points is not supported by tournaments therefore I think that you talk about casual games? Then I highly advice the use of proxxies. I don´t know anyone who does not allow proxxies in casual games. Some facts regarding hobby costs: - heros are cheap but bring relatively high points costs to the table - Battalions don´t cost any money, but increase your army points - elite units often have a better points to cash ratio than battleline units - buy whole armies on the second hand market, that way you pay the least per model - I think Skaven is one of the more expensive armies out there because of their low points per model ratio - one of the best points per cash ratios in the Skaven line seems to be the warplightning cannon followed by (Grey Seer + endless spells) as well as Doomwheel, Stormvermin and Stormfiends - the Start Collecting Pestilens boxed set allows for a Great Seer on Doomwheel + Warplightning Cannon which is roughly 420 points and therefore rather cheapish, especially if you can sell the Plague Monks
