I'll have to hurry up. I pledged to paint the Sepulchral Guard and Garrek's Reavers, but I'm also participating is the Malign Portents painting thread on the forum. After this I still need to assemble and paint a Malignants Start Collecting! set.  But my Sepulchral Guard is nearing completion, so the glass is half full.

Before 13 January:
1. 10 Executioners
2. 5 Dwarf Thunderers

Stretch before the 13th:
1. 2 Stormvermin (2e standard bearer & Drummer)
2. 8 Ironbreakers
3. New base with cauldron for a Ogor Butcher (although the Ogor player won last two rounds, he doesn't need any more help xD)

End of the month:
- Final details on the lord of Slaanesh
- one addition to one of my  armies that excites me at that moment

Done! (Just in time for the games just needed some final highlights) so nothing stretch yet but first the details on the lord and I reckon the conversion work on a butcher with pot or maybe a runelord with anvil (might be a good starting point to join a the malign portents with a self made start collecting, 10 thunder era, 10 executioners, runelord with anvil & a sorcerress)

Another pledge in the bag! Really liked the result on the Kairic Acolytes! I still need to work on taking descent pictures thou.

Now what to paint the rest of the month? Think I will treat myself with some easy Aetherwings and a couple of Skaven Weaponteames.

Got some work done on my own army as well this month. The palladors have been done except for the base so that got fixed and the Aetherwings was fairly simple to get done, base coat and a few drybrushes. Next up is more Khorne for a friend's army. 20 bloody Reavers...

With a campaign tournament day coming up I have some things I want to finish to be able to field it. The army most needing support are my Dark Elves so:

Before 13 January:
1. 10 Executioners
2. 5 Dwarf Thunderers

Stretch before the 13th:
1. 2 Stormvermin (2e standard bearer & Drummer)
2. 8 Ironbreakers
3. New base with cauldron for a Ogor Butcher (although the Ogor player won last two rounds, he doesn't need any more help xD)

End of the month:
- Final details on the lord of Slaanesh
- one addition to my Slaanesh army that excites me at that moment.

Pretty good month, finished my goals before 13 January. No stretch goals there. Did collect all the parts for the Butcher but now that I have more time I want to do it right.
I did finish the lord of Slaanesh and i'm getting close to finishing the spawn! Love those old skool models! Next month will see me finishing those up and a blood coven box, because I got that Khaine fever! (and they will double as extra daemonettes ;) )

So I didn't quite make my pledge and I'm late to the party, but I still managed to get a fair bit done. Here's my January results, still waiting on a new order of 32mm bases to stick the warriors on.

large.IMG_20180130_114146975.jpg.68cb302

All told:

  • Exalted Great Unclean One
  • Epidemius
  • Poxbringer
  • 53 Plaguebearers
  • 3 Rotbringers sorcerers
  • 24 Avatars of War Corrupters (counts as Chaos Warriors)
  • 5 Blight Kings
  • 2 Lords of Plagues
  • 3 Bases of Nurglings
  • 2 Beasts of Nurgle

Still WIP:

  • 15 Warriors of Chaos
  • The Glottkin
  • 5 Knights (not pictured)

All in all very happy, bring on February!

Wow that nurgle force looks awesome. I’ve been trying to have a bit of a sort out and realise just how many models I have and it is ridiculous. I finally finished my beastclaws (in malign portents thread) but am trying the paint anything new you buy this year immediately so got my hobbit set (Christmas present) completed. Loved using the citadel handle, my sweaty hands would have normally taken the paint off these smaller scale models. Was also an interesting change. Definitely could use scenery in AoS.

This is my first pledge! I used a couple of events last year to get bits painted promptly but don't have much planned this year. Hope this is going to help me keep accountable.

This Month I am going to undercoat and paint the purple armour on all 34 Stormcast Vanguard models I have already assembled.

It's been awesome browsing through the thread looking at how much everyone has achieved in less than a month. My progress has been a little slower nevertheless it is going in the right direction.

During the last couple of weeks, I have managed to get the whole of my Astral Templars army undercoated, with a base and shade of purple and a base of purple. I also completed two characters which were a great pleasure to paint Neave Blacktalon and the Errant-Questor. I'm happy with the results given my other commitments.

Thanks for all the encouragement I have received it has really helped me keep on track. I have really enjoyed my first monthly pledge, looking forward to taking part in Februarys.

Finally got this guy done just in time for January.

Ended up going for fairly standard banner colour, still working on best approach to black armour.

Went Eshin Grey with a dash of black then nuln oil and highlights with eshin and dawnstone. Still feel like it doesn’t quite pop enough though, any advice welcome.

I’m going to fall back on the recommendation of the Citadel Paint App.

Depending on the “kind of black” you’re looking for there are several different approaches you could work with.

For a neutral grey hilight:

Abaddon Black > Eshin Grey > Administratum Grey

For a more “blue” hilight

Abaddon Black > Dark Reaper > Fenrissian Grey

Alternately go for a Firey hilight Black: (there’s an example of this in the original Bloodborne book)31078D53-121B-4DD7-A528-5398E0C336B4.jpeg.543a5440f7d5356460cfb0ae6d8705f4.jpeg

Abaddon Black > Evil Sunz Scarlet > Fire Dragon Bright

Thanks for that. My main reason for not going pure black as a base coat is that the Bloodsecrator doesn’t really have many edges to highlight due to the smooth pauldrons on the armour.

Maybe base coat eshin grey with multiple coats of nuln oil would look better??

Unfortunately, The nuln oil won't give you a 'pop' even if you're using a nuln oil gloss. :(

edit: Alternately you could work with a metallic black. or a drybrush for the highlights, as opposed to line highlighting.

Here's the back example from one of the SCE that I did using an 'Anvils of the Heldenhammer' armor.

When you're placing highlights, you're looking for a 'light source' reflection. Not necessarily just 'edges'. (the curve on the shoulderpad as an example.)
