  1. We were lucky in the UK - there were plenty of places to get copies of this from your standard newsagent/paper-shop. I mean a unit of 40 Chainrasps for £12 was a steal! I havent subscribed, but I've picked eight issues so far and saved a bundle.
  2. To be honest I'm not finding hostility towards Narrative play on the forum, just frustration that sometimes GW hides behind Narrative Play when rules go awry. I can empathise with that, but I do like narrative play because battles have never been balanced throughout the course of history. Balance to me is not an issue - its the fun of playing. Sure I might go into a game expecting my butt to get kicked, but that doesn't diminish the pleasure of the hobby, regardless whether that's narrative or matched play. If there is any tension, I think its the frustration that narrative players can be apathetic about imbalanced rules-writing because it doesn't effect them so much. But for very competitive players, wonky rules really does. That's a tension that will never go away, alas. And in almost every other competition you will find examples of imbalance in the rules that affect competitors whose primary reason to play is to win, but doesnt effect, so much, those who are there purely for the joy of playing.
  3. Had this discussion on another thread. LoG is still legit until Forbidden Power is FAQ'd as it is an allegiance not a warscroll or battalion.
  4. Not sure. Lethy Defenders are not a warscroll battalion nor warscroll in itself. Its an allegiance. As such they're not covered by this. Would need to wait for a Forbidden Power FAQ to make them illegal, I reckon.
  5. So I guess the Darkest Depth (Tunnel battleplans) in the Core Book requires an abstraction where Skyvessels can travel through solid rock and then materialise again somewhere down the tunnel. Wow. Now that's what I call mining! 🤣
  6. You are kidding? How does the skyvessel get there then? Is beamed up? Someone on board taps a pair of ruby slippers together? No wait - they use magic... 😂
  7. Warscroll abilities are defined as part of AoS rules. Any rule therefore defined as 'fly' or 'flying,' regardless if it is a trait, ability, artefact or spell is governed by 'flying rules.' If Flying High was called 'Soaring' 'Levitating,' 'Floating' High, then sure this could be argued as not affecting based on semantics. Warscroll states (underlined the important bit): Instead of making a normal move with this model, if there are less than 7 wounds currently allocated to this model, you can say that it will fly high (it can retreat and disengage). If you do so, remove this model from the battlefield and set it up again more than 1" from any terrain features or objectives and more than 9" from any enemy models. There is no hyphen in this ability. It is clearly governed by the fact it enables the unit to 'fly'. And as it stands the FAQ is very clear on abilities or spells stopping a unit from doing so.
  8. The FAQ states: Q: If an ability or spell stops another unit from being able to fly, does this stop that unit from being able to move at all? A: No, it simply means that the Flying rules do not apply to it. The Fly High ability states this is a 'fly' ability and so is governed by the Flying rules. As a Kharadron player too, yep this kinda sucks.
  9. Like every debate, there will always be people who are not willing to consider an alternative viewpoint and/or those who will try their hardest to persuade them out of, either feeling their opinions are right, or because they want that person to enjoy the aspects of the hobby that they currently do not like. None of those people are wrong but some of them will not enjoy the debate and get very little from it, other than a bit of rage/stress/anxiety etc. And like all of these debates the trick is to realise which you are and they are, and decide it is sometimes not worth arguing over. Some people will never be convinced no matter how convincing the argument. Heck, some people even think Covid-19 doesn't exist.
  10. For me, AoS is the most flexible game system out there, and the lore has improved from the dark days of the first core book which was all over the place IMHO. I haven't played a better tabletop figures game which can be effortlessly played either as an epic confrontation with hundreds of miniatures, or just a dungeon crawler using Skirmish rules and one bit of homebrew looting. Sure the balance isn't there yet (will it ever be?), pricing is the same (a bit all over the place TBH), and GW do complicate things for themselves. But I've never felt so motivated to buy into a hobby like this, and I was a WFB player back in the day, I also played Epic 40k, Dystopian Wars, D&D and other role-playing games. I love my SF and Fantasy and Horror... but AoS is for me is the one game that has kept my interest (and my sanity during Lockdown). (Mostly) the minis are the best around, and the rules ARE simple and straightforward. What isn't is so simple, is the debate around the nuances of the factions/warscroll/allegiance abilities. They are complicated as heck 😄. But you know, I reckon AoS wouldn't be as interesting without them.
  11. Since when did this topic become another (yawn) Age of Sigmar vs WFB? With Lockdown I feel like I've been catapulted back a few years 😂
  12. Which kinda demonstrates why this question is problematic. In a SCE or CoS army Liberators are rubbish battleline, granted, barely benefitting from any buffs. Stick 'em in a Lethisian Defenders army tho, they move 6", hit on 3s against a charging unit, and with a CP they get a 3+ save and become a pain in the butt to dislodge off objectives in units of 10. 🤔
  13. Like Neverchosen, be directed by your RPG focus. If you're into supernatural adventures, then Nighthaunt or Legions of Nagash are the way to go. Great aesthetic, lots of variety. If you're dabbling in a more horrorific/Lovecraft type adventures then its gotta be Nurgle or Tzeencth for me, for the models. Straight up fantasy, I'd go for Gloomspite for the fun of it. But for gameplay flexibility where anything literally goes, you can't beat Skaven.* *(Actually Kharadron do - if your thing is steampunk, and their last battletome made them a tad better on the tabletop!)
  14. Agree. Played a game this weekend with new realm rules, and it was so much better. Other rules have been safely tweaked and points adjustments are better than before. Having said that, the air combat rules are a reprint from White Dwarf and the loss of mercs is unfortunate. A good GHB but not one of my faves. Still, worth getting unless you are purely a competitive matched player with no interest in any other flavours of AoS. But then this book hasn't been written for those players in mind anyway.
  15. Wording is "return a number of slain models with a combined wounds characteristic equal or less than a roll of D3." So I reckon on a second reading you're right - for stormcast the most you're gonna resurrect is one model.
  16. Cool - would be good to know. Don't have exact wording in front me 👍
  17. Reads as you can bring back D3 wounds not characteristic, so a 5 or 6 is one lib on full health, and 1 lib on 1 wound. Healing storm ability brings them to full health though.
  18. No rend from his knights nor the kairos. 3 libs raised over 2 turns (D3 wounds resurrection per turn), plus healing storm (latter is not a prayer).
  19. Don't think there are, alas. This is definitely a niche army, but having tried them out this weekend, that near limitless option of tanky and cheap liberator walls with kharadron air support was pretty effective, even with lousy dice rolls. 10 man blob of libs for 180pts with a lord relictor stood up well to a kairos fateweaver and knight support long enough for another blob of libs with a lord celestant to finish off kairos. Casaulties were very light (5 libs slain - three of these resurrected by relictors prayer). Holding or taking objectives is pretty useful too. +1 melee hit against a counter charge and arkanauts get +1 to hit 9" from objective. Needed that with all the 2s and 1s I was getting! Onyx shield wall was the stand out for me though. Better save than Teclis (and Kairos!), and with some buffs, libs can finally stand toe to toe with Chaos Warriors.
  20. Any new thoughts for this allegiance based on the 2020 points drops and Kharadron changes earlier this year? For 90 points, liberators seem good vfp taking into account +1 to hit and +1 to save through a CP. Used as a screen for your more bang-for-your-buck kharadron, is the allegiance now worth using? 🤔
  21. They do. They also, arguably, have one of the worst battletomes. I'm holding on to the review of the Lumineth battletome before committing. I can coerce myself into getting those new figs I'm not so enthusiastic about if the play well (by well, I mean fun, not necessarily competitive). The past 12 months have seen some really weak tomes playing-wise. And structurally problematic ones too. We might get one of the best and balanced battletomes going so even with the low unit variety, the battle cattle and all that cow-fu, Lumineth might be a great fun faction to play with. Or... it might not. Time will tell. And let's face it, right now we have all the time in the world.
  22. I've not been a big fan of the range, I admit, but what I would suggest is a moment of reflection. Remember the situation we're all in right now. These aren't normal times. GW is affected by more than just this range, and while they like to plan ahead, impacts on their business have been around since the beginning of the year. They've promised 2 new factions but they'll need to balance this with the sad fact, that for many, disposable incomes to spend on this hobby will be greatly reduced worldwide for the foreseeable future. Lockdowns will see increase in costs, not to mention problems with getting these minis out across the world. And thats just scraping the surface of an otherwise bad situation all-round for many businesses. GW won't be immune to this. What they have, though, is passionate hobbyists who will stick with them. Sure the Lumineth range isn't what we expect, and I won't be investing quite yet (still not a fan of the designs), BUT there's enough passion shown here to say the range will sell. And my money will go into other ranges when fortune permits. Like a lot of you, this hobby has kept me sane during these rough times. I reckon some patience isn't much to ask then, to keep this hobby going. Keep the faith.
  23. Well, Sons of Behemat might be an equally small (big) release. I mean how many gargants can GW come up with? I can't see there being more than 10 warscrolls.
  24. I've voted to like both this post and the previous even though they are - slightly - at odds. Mainly because they are both impassioned and informed, and that leads to healthy debate. Though I will say that generally, people are not raiding other sub forums to spread disdain about factions. It doesn't serve anyone to start flame wars over faction choice. More likely people are offering opinions on design not out of devilment but as a comment on their hobby. Many players here jump aboard other factions so comment on design or rules is kinda valid. It's ok not to like certain factions. Nurgle was the last Chaos faction I collected as I wasnt a fan of all the sculpts (horticulous slimux is one model I do not personally like if I'm honest, but hey that's just me), but there are others who love the plague aesthetic which is fine with me.
  25. Blatant repetition of criticism aside (and repetition can be a valid kind of criticism when there is further evidence to support it), forums exist to field criticism as well sharing the love. I've read posts from many contributors to this thread who have been critical of rules, lore etc on other threads and yet they are as valid as any criticism of this range so far. What is not valid, or acceptable, is where one person thinks their opinion whether positive or negative is right over some one else's. Those who love this range need to accept that it will be marmite to others. Those who are disappointed will need to accept this wasnt the range they wanted and collect something else. Neither are right or wrong opinions. My own opinion is that I've expected better for the last 2 new factions. Not everyone agrees, and that's ok, even healthy (and tbh I'm glad as at least GW wont lose money on these attempts). There are other ranges I can spend my money on, after all What is important is that GW gets honest feedback (and we know they read this forum). A business or any organisation cannot succeed in the absence of criticism, after all.
