  1. Working on NMM, pretty new to it, needs some more highlights on the brighter parts, happy with how it's coming out though! Going for a, err, colourful scheme after painting enough grey space marines!
  2. How could someone take another person's idea and make money of it? They should be shut down! 😉
  3. I have a good collection of 6th edition Bretonnian, never got the Pegasus Knights though, I may have found a good proxy now! Yeah, doesn't look the best, may take some greenstuff to add some variation, was thinking the best use would be as a Nurgle mount. Love the halflings too, loads of character, will be starting mine soon
  4. Interested in seeing the OBR Underworlds warband now, I think this season of Underworlds has been the strongest model wise. Not sure if posting links is allowed, but Trolltrader have launched a Kickstarter yesterday for halfling Bretonnian, Orges, Goblins, Dragons, Giants and terrain. I backed their last Kickstarter and found the quality of the miniatures very good, with weekly project updates and everything arriving when expected, even with Covid. There may be one or two people that post here that might be interested in the giants 😉 May back for the flying pigs myself!
  5. Very true, I think in time people will just use the new names, particularly as newer players start, they won't have had any experience of the older game, which AoS is very much a continuation of. I imagine 40k probably had the same issue when first launched, being fantasy in space, with all the normal fantasy races renamed and given a change of clothes, but after over 30 years the names stuck. As you say, dark Eldar and imperial guard are still used even though the names changed around 2014. Personally, I don't really mind the change to race names, and makes sense in the lore given that the inhabitants of the mortal realms wouldn't have any connection to the old world. Humans are still Humans in AoS though. I probably wouldn't have changed the race names, the new faction names would have been sufficient on their own. It makes no difference to the story if a Kharadron Overlord is a Duardin or a Dwarf, the bigger difference is whether the dwarf is a Kharadron or a Fyreslayer.
  6. My point being that most of the general population knows what they are, only someone that knows what Warhammer is, and further knows what Age of Sigmar is, and reads into the lore knows what a duardin is. It's not as easily accessible as what fantasy was; dwarfs are stout, greedy people that live in mountains, elves are haughty and look down on everyone, trolls live in swamps, etc.
  7. Yes, AoS is definitely growing as a game, and is getting great support from GW, but the back when Mordheim and Fantasy 6th edition was released, fantasy (and the grimmer lore) were very popular. Most of the people creating content now probably grew up exposed more to the old world than the mortal realms. There are still large, active Facebook groups for Mordheim and old Fantasy, with some manufacturers creating new models for the old games (Heresy Lab). Another factor is that the old world is very similar to most other fantasy worlds and doesn't need much explanation to new people. Whereas the Mortal realms is a little stranger, with multiple gods and renamed fantasy races (troggoths, duardin, selves, orruks). For video games, where the player may not be familiar with Warhammer fantasy or AoS, the old world would be a more familiar jumping off point. Like my father would have a fair idea what a dwarf or troll is, a duardin or troggoth takes some explaining.
  8. May be of interest to Kurnothi fans, in the book Dark Harvest.. (spoilers)
  9. Any guesses on what's going to be in the battalion boxes for BR Teclis? Or even if there will be any? I'd be interested in a Nurgle and maybe an OBR one
  10. True, they are the iconic troops for the undead faction, I'd just like to see all of them at least been usable. I have a mismatch of undead models already, would be nice to be able to soup them altogether like CoS.
  11. I'd like to see the choice of General affect what units are battleline, e.g. Necromancer makes zombies battleline, Vampire For Skeletons, etc. Would give a reason to pick different units other than the outright strongest choice, and could theme your army in that direction.
  12. Yes, I think the same, the only place where this is happening now is the specialist games and middle earth, where there are characterful sculpts like the halfling cook for necromunda. I'd love to see more of these types of models for the main games, alternate sculpts of leaders or new characters not expected to sell by the thousands so no need of an expensive plastic mold created.
  13. I would say the Corvus Belli Infinity range would be a good advertisement of modern metal models, far sharper in detail than new GW kits. GW metal kits in general were not as well designed for building, but I wouldn't blame the material for that. Infinity models go together pretty easily. Large metal models are a pain in my opinion. Plastic has it's problems too, especially with undercuts, even on newer kits, some of the new space marines suffer from this, but is much easier to put together than metal or resin. Though I often have to use greenstuff to gap fill on plastic kits also. They just don't have the level of detail a sculpt by Mierce or Corvus Belli has. I'm working on an old metal Captain Cortez and the lines are at least as sharp or sharper than the new Primaris line. Modern metals don't contain lead and are probably safer than resin miniatures, I'd try not to breathe in dust of any material when sanding or cleaning. I might be in the minority, but I really don't mind working with metal, as long as it's well cleaned and primed before painting.
  14. Full basket of paints for me, all the contrast paints and some of the newer base and layer paints. Didn't take long to reach the limit! 😁
  15. I would like to see battleplans based on points level like 40k in the next edition of AoS, there could even be points limits on single models to stop people bringing things like Morathi to 1000 point games. Personally I prefer the smaller format, as I can build, paint and play much sooner, whereas a full 2000 point army would take me ages to put together and paint, before I can even think about playing a game.
  16. That's a fairly safe prediction! Though if we get 20 skeletons/zombies per box, it would lessen the blow Failing that, I'll be looking at Oathmark or Fireforge for the bulk of an army, with the Underworlds warband providing the leaders. I wouldn't spend 3/4 euro per model on horde units, it's the reason I never got into playing full games of fantasy. Looking forward to seeing what else is in this new box
  17. I just hope they cost them like OBR rather than the Lumineth
  18. I think AoS should move to the 40k crusade system for narrative games, with units gaining bonuses and injuries through games. It created a framework around the whole narrative game process, where you could have a continuing story about your army and is themed around the narrative. The big bonus of Crusade, is that it brought in the idea of small scale battles to start off, versus the idea of AoS basically been 2000 points all the time, even in narrative. The AoS narrative rules never grabbed me the same way, with just a few battleplans and story ideas, where the 40k rulebook has nearly 50 pages of a narrative play section. I have no real interest in matched play, so narrative and open are where my gaming interests would lie, and I think GW really need to seriously look at the Narrative side of AoS, because there just isn't much to talk about currently. I'm in the middle of creating a small Crusade force at the minute and can't wait to start playing again. I'd love something similar so I could start small armies of the new Slaanesh or Undead without feeling that I won't be able to use them in a game as I probably won't want to buy 2000 points of a faction.
  19. I've been warming to the Lumineth lately, and the Kangaroo riders aren't changing that impression. Like the new hero and looking forward to seeing the cloud riders. I started the hobby in 6th edition and still love the more traditional aesthetic, but I find when a new AoS faction comes out, I would not initially be a fan, but after 6-9 months my opinion is usually changed after I see conversions and alternate paint schemes. Often the studio paint schemes don't do the models justice. Saying that, it will be hard to resist a full gothic horror vampire army!
  20. Could be the long awaited catachan/seraphon crossover?
  21. I really thought that the fyreslayers initial release should have included the remaining dispossessed units. The fyreslayers been the religious leaders of the hold and the dispossessed representing the lowly commoners forced to fight in plate armour rather than the armour of God. Would have given more balance to the aesthetics of the army. The dispossessed units could then be replaced with newer AoS versions if required. And it has been done before with the ironjawz and bonesplitters. I don't hate the look of the fyreslayers, just wouldn't want to paint an entire army of them. An all dispossessed army suffers the same problem, not enough variety of units to stand on it's own.
  22. I love that flying dwarf! The new head adds so much character to the model, really nice job on the painting too. Have you ever done a guide on your metallics? The copper tones are excellent
  23. Yet another WIP picture, this time have finished the front cloth. First time trying textured fabric, and had to go back and forth a lot before I was happy with it, got tons of solid advice in a couple of Facebook groups I'm in. Found that less contrast between the shadows and highlights actually looked better for the cloth.
