  1. It is a brilliant game. You don’t need to play one of the boxed Warcry war bands to have a great experience too. Good luck and have fun!
  2. Nice idea, my advice would be to go through the 800+ cards to finding the closest thing to what you are after. Perhaps a steam tank could be a counts as Kharybdis? Perhaps a Helblaster Volleygun could be a counts as a Skaven Stormfiend. If you need to use a card from another faction, perhaps you could port the appropriate reactions and abilities to make the game more tactical? Let us know how you get on.
  3. Louise Sugden, what a talent. GW management need to lift their game big time. It might sound funny but growing up reading White Dwarf made the hobbyists you read about feel like family. This was the best thing about Games Workshop. They have almost completely lost sight of this.
  4. I did initially but the new designs are really clicking with me now. If and when I start collecting Stormcast, I think I’ll go full Thunderstrike - with possible exception being the heroes.
  5. I wonder what lessons they could bring across from Warcry? A few universal rules could be good and I have noticed war scrolls have been trending leaner - which is a good thing. A card of army rules for each army would be great too. Full alternate activation system? Now that would be interesting.
  6. Thanks @NinthMusketeer, I have heard this elsewhere. I noticed the the branches of gnarloaks are often modular - perhaps I'll build my next batch with this issue in mind. I decided not to make any special bases in the end. They seem stable enough plus it saves me some time if I leave them as they are. Next job, get the paint brushes out!

    New models

Not sure @Gitzdee but with over 800 units in the game even if something doesn't get new rules there is likely a suitable model you could proxy. Interested to find out the answer to your question, wonder if there has been anything in White Dwarf?
  8. Amazed at how good Warcry is. Just been playing Cities vs Skaven and have been enjoying fast, tactical and well balanced games. Super fun. Absolutely brilliant.
  9. I'm enjoying them @Gitzdee! Should be having my next game in a few weeks. In the meantime, I am building gnarloaks!
  10. Wondering if anyone out there has any opinion on mounting gnarloaks on small MDF bases, (like one base per tree)? I was thinking they seem pretty well balanced but gluing them to some MDF might reduce the chance of them getting knocked over mid game. I think they look pretty nice as they are though. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
  11. I really like the Dawner models, ooze character and charm. Will be interesting to see how they compare to the more elite elements that will inevitably come.
  12. I like the new designs too. Understated, just what you want for the rank and file so that the more grand elite elements stand out. Really happy my existing Freeguild guard will work fine as stand ins for these guys too. These guys have great character too, well done to the sculpter!
  13. My, unless I am very much mistaken, that's THE Tom Baker playing the part of the Lord of Hubris in that open day preview!
  14. I use to think in a similar way to the original poster but one day it all just clicked with me. I think the lore is fantastic. Some read about all the high level cosmic-battle-of-the-Gods stuff that was different to the Old World and think that's Age of Sigmar lore. It's so much more than that. For the average man on the ground, life is as mundane as any other. One might go through life without so much as a glimpse of a Stormcast Eternal much less someone like Teclis or Morathi. Black Library is a great place to go for a lore deep dive. I recommend City of Secrets, Dominion and especially Hallowed Ground as great ways to learn and get inspired. I've only heard good things about the Soulbound RPG too.
  15. I've given up on keeping up with the General's Handbook battlepacks too. It's not that I am against them but I'm just not playing regularly enough to want or need a shake up every six months. It is nice that other ways to play are recognised by the three ways to play system - I don't feel I'm being corralled into playing the latest season which is a good thing.
  16. Is it really not popular I wonder? Cursed City sold really well but the forum here for it never took off. I do think the game is still building its audience though. It’s getting some positive coverage from influencers such as Atom Smasher and Sam Lenz. Perfect game for school games clubs. I am hopeful for its future.
  17. Oh you totally should. Warcry is a superb game. So well designed and super fun.
  18. Nice @Gitzdee, I found my Freeguilds with swords and shields struggled with the counter reaction as they were hitting mostly on 5s but I found if I put the cheaper units in small packs one could draw out the enemy activations while the others got revenge.
  19. So, played my first ever game of Warcry 2nd edition last week. Game was a matched play Skaven vs Cities of Sigmar. I've got to say, I'm mighty impressed. Rules are easy to learn, clear and concise. I printed out cards for all the fighters involved, each armies reactions and abilities and a set each of the universal reactions and abilities for each player. Barely referenced the core rules during the game and pretty much played off the cards. I was initially put off by the alternate activation but after playing this game I am a convert. They nailed it. Smooth rules and not crunchy at all. Super excited to try a campaign. Also, really impressed by how balanced the game was, even with a monstrous Stormfiend in the game. I lost but had I moved in on the objective a little earlier... Highly recommended.
  20. Ah, I think these previews are great. I do want the excitement of seeing everything just before release but these hints serve a practical purpose too. I am currently actively painting my Cities army but will probably alter my paint queue in response to the previews. It seems my existing Freeguild models may work in a Dawnbringer army but rebasing may be required (due to the trend for larger bases).
  21. I am so delighted we have a Legends program. I have some Knights of Order on my painting table right now. I do wish some of the older first edition compendium scrolls got another update though. Broadly, I think Games Workshop have got it right. It isn’t good for the game to have essential units that new players can’t easily go and buy. In friendly games at home, I think having some rules for out of production units is fantastic.
  22. The basic mechanics are pretty straight forward and logical. There is quite a bit of decision making as to how each model moves and acts. Would I use the words easy, simple and non-complicated? Probably not, perhaps easy to grasp the basics but the rules have quite a few layers to learn. I wouldn't recommend this game for young kids, maybe something like 10-12+ years of age.
  23. I have no issues with seasonal rules for this reason - the players’ playing the most get the most benefit from it. Yes, the odds are if you play a random game at the club it will be with a player who plays frequently and they will probably want to use this extra layer of rules. That’s not really a problem with the game though. I play infrequently with casual opponents who are happy to leave out the seasonal rules.
  24. Anyone got the Era of the Beast pdf? Has Thondia been fleshed out further?
