  1. The problem I see is if something is not optimal in an army that isn't exactly top tier then you are shooting yourself in the foot by taking it. A shame because I love the model and I want it to be good but why carry more of a burden than you need to? I think going forward I will simply replace it with more Bestigor once I try the list out a few times.
  2. I feel like AOS 3 would be more of a 2.5 rather than a full proper new edition. There are only a handful of rules that need to be tweaked and I think they could easily build it in such a way that all the current battletomes can slot into it without much effort. I think every army need to see some model refreshes or new kits come out so I would love to see AOS 2.5/3 be a consolidation of model ranges. As for us having plenty of missions already, sure we definitely have a lot of good ones but if you look at a game like Infinity you can easily have more missions and just rotate the pool of available ones in a "season" (most likely a year between GHBs).
  3. The FAQ definitely hurt but it felt like everyone dropped them as soon as it hit when in reality they are still very very strong. I wonder if a lot of the drop off was from the army attracting those gamers who tend to jump around power armies a lot.
  4. Thinking of running this as my first Beasts army and would love some thoughts on it: Gavespawn 1970 points Ghyran Ghorgon Mindstealer Sphiranx Desolating Beastherd Ghorgon Beastlord, General, Ghyrstrike, Unraveling aura 30x Bestigors 6x Bullgors, Great Axes 10x Gors Great Bray Shaman. Tendrils of Atrophy Great Bray Shaman, Vicious Stranglethorns 40x Ungor Raiders 10x Ungors, Swords Wildfire Taurus I know the second Ghorgon probably isn't ideal but I am going 3x starter kits so need to get some use out of him first. More Bestigors is probably the better play over Bullgors but I love the models and want to try them out first. Sphinx can be screened by the horde on one flank and the taurus on the other and combined I should be able to control a lot of combats (maybe making the bullgors a bit better).
  5. Yup it is the main way to play. I was just offering a contrast with the US scene where you don't know the realm until the night before, whereas it seems the Aussie scene picks it well in advance and you can adjust your list for it.
  6. Watched this today and enjoyed the list a lot. Not sure about the tactics from the opponent but I loved how the beasts played.
  7. Cancon picked the realm well in advance though, hence why you saw lots of the healing endless spell in lists because it was in that realm.
  8. The old world was still a well known IP and so CA could bank on it for their foray into fantasy. It also transitioned really well into total war due to the rank and file nature of that game series. It would be insane for CA to have picked Sigmar as their setting back when Total Warhammer 1 was being done as neither company knew how the public would initially receive it (poorly) and also how well the lore was written and developed (also poorly). Now these days it is much much better but I still think fantasy is the far stronger setting and much easier to develop a game around. People forget it took like 20 years for Warhammer to develop its lore into something that wasn't half arsed or really generic. Sigmar is what...5 years old? It is going to take another 5 or so years for the lore to really come into its own and be a viable world. Now GWs real problem was not pivoting fast enough to catch the Total Warhammer players. They didn't even have any joint marketing ventures in (Buy this DLC and get a voucher for 50% off a sigmar kit and ask our staff how to play the game in store!) and they were going out of their way to scrap all the old fantasy lines as fast as possible. I personally think this old world game will fall pretty flat in the market and people will still struggle to get the models they want. It will not be new player friendly at all (good luck getting all the models you need from scratch) and as soon as your game can't get any new blood in you die a slow death as your vets lose interest.
  9. Found the list, seems pretty strong but I am not sure about the 5 man chosen unit, not sure what it does in the long run.
  10. Why not go Ghyran for the gyrstrike weapon? That seems to be the best weapon to toss to a doombull. I would be tempted to go 3x10 bestigor before loading up on bullgor like that but not sure if you can fit that 3rd unit in without reshaping the list a lot. Decent summoning pool but I would probably want more ungors. I know the footprint is huge but a unit of 30x gor is pretty brutal to place towards a centre objective. Can cause your opponent a lot of headaches trying to deal with it. I think you can cover the rest of the board with your other units to really control everything.
  11. I think you should ditch the Cygor for maybe 3 bullgors or a doombull (outside of the battalion). They perform way better than the Cygor and you already have 2 big beasts in the army.
  12. I don't think anyone would care if you ran a Cygor as a Ghorgon, they are basically the same model.
  13. Those new elf cavalry models will probably look alright as blood knights with head swaps. Maybe change the spear tips to be something a bit more death like and change the shields to be grave guard shields or something similar.
  14. That is a shame, wish they had an extra attack base or even a bit of rend. I love the models but they seem difficult to justify in the army. Do you find their 32mm base good for screening or is it better to just run ungor at 25mm for cheaper points?
  15. My ungor are there for screening whereas the 20 blob of gor get the +1 attack if they are ignored (and up the back I hope they don't take any damage until they get charged). Fair point about the bestigor, I can easily split them down to 3x 10s or group up into 1x 30. I might play around with both and see how they go. Good point about the ethereal for Be'lakor, that makes it much easier to dump into the middle of the fight.
  16. Got a new list I am considering: Darkwalkers Desolating Beastherd Ghyran 1990 Doombull, Ghyrstrike Bray Shaman, Desolate Shard, Vicious Stranglethorns Bray Shaman, Tendrils of Atrophy, General (Not sure about the trait) 20 Ungor Raiders 10 Ungors, swords 20 Gors, Shields 6 Bullgors, great axes 10 Bestigors 20 Bestigors Be'lakor Mindstealer Sphiranx Balewind Vortex 3 drops which isn't too bad. I know the herdstone is going to impact Be'lakor and the Sphiranx but I think they can do enough damage early on or I can shift them outside of the range of the herdstone as needed. I think I have enough bodies and units to contest objectives and I am aiming to summon on way more ungor. The gor with shields can be backfield objective holders against flanking armies or I can push them up a bit on one flank depending on the scenario. Any thoughts or changes? Not sure about the general trait for a shaman that is probably going to sit next to the herdstone.
  17. A consensus from some of the top analysts (Vince, Honest Wargamer) is that STD are slightly over costed for what they do right now. The June Generals Handbook could honestly open up a huge amount of units with some minor points tweaks downwards. Once the sphinx drops we also get a massive boost for 100 points and that too can open up a few more options on the table. They are definitely middle of the pack army but they aren't bad by any stretch of the imagination. I would say the only real let down for me with the book so far is the ****** poor options for mixing chaos armies. Much like beats these guys feel like they never really fit into any other chaos army and other chaos armies barely help them out (one or two character aside).
  18. Hearing some rumours from some high level players that some juicy STD lists with daemon allies are being built up atm. I have wracked my brain all day trying to find good combos with battalions but I honestly can't see how it all fits in 2000 points. Anyone got any decent lists like that to share? Or maybe thoughts on what these players might be eyeing off?
  19. Grashrak has the Savage bolt spell which debuffs a unit so you get +1 to hit against it in melee. Cast that on a big beefy unit and send in multiple of your own units and most of your army is now hitting on 3s rather than 4s.
  20. This is why they need to be very careful with the fix. Ideally they should change 1-2 things at a time and see how it impacts it, we don't want to kill the unit entirely. If they rush into a fix they could easily destroy large parts of the book for a long time (Hello old KO)
