  1. Mentally wishlisting this, and thinking about the role of Total War and Vermintide in preserving affection for the setting, I think I'd prefer a Mordheim level of detailed, granular focus on the Empire and the surrounding environs for the first run of this, even if at the expense of everyone getting new minis of their beloved old army in short order Like, at least initially I want to be playing a 750pt assortment of barely-equipped, toothless militiamen trying desperately to stop a village near Bogenhafen getting razed by beastmen, not reliving blackfire pass with more miniatures than I can fit in my house They can logically differentiate the game's appeal from Age of Sigmar by stripping WHFB back (partially) to its original grimy roots. From what I know, a lot of the newer, late period WHFB units*(skycutters, Phoenixes suddenly existing) seem like AOS in all but name, waiting for a setting that could more coherently accommodate them. (cf also the quite strange place WFRP finds itself in narratively now) Because AOS has made huge progress in ensuring there's an incredible variety of big armies for any player's tastes, WHFB can afford to be a more specialised, immersive game set in a more defined, fully-realised setting. Accompany every "season" of releases with tons of terrain, campaign packs etc to really fill out that part of the world, there's no rush. Give me lots of ramshackle houses, and fleeing/drunk/poisoned civilians as extras on the unit sprues etc *Me and some of the boys was thinking about permanently retconning the existence of demigryph knights
  2. It would suit Teclis to be a model like an inverse of Nagash or the Eldar Yncarne, effortlessly floating and wreathed in magical energy The pose/look of the original Jes Goodwin sculpt would be a good basis imo, just dialed up to 1000 He doesn't need to wear a four foot tall war crown to be boss at magic any more, but you've got to figure he just kind of likes to at this point There's never been a model of an unmounted Tyrion has there? It might be nice to have an infantry version with a dynamic pose that reflects his reputation as a swordsman, as the mounted ones were very static and the large helm made him a bit anonymous looking Unless he ends up riding around on the shoulders of a stormcast he believes to be the reincarnation of Malhandir
  3. Can't believe it turned out Karl Franz is actually still alive and he just had a really vivid dream of being a giant gold superhero thing with spiky wings in an imaginary future All waking up and realising with great disappointment that the sewers of Altdorf have flooded the city with warpstone-infused human waste again, and that the long-dead and possibly apocryphal barbarian" Sigmar Heldenhammer" is still dead
  4. Argument in favour of a War of the Beard era setting: a mini of a dwarf diplomat crying into his amputated beard
  5. I applaud GW's unusual transparency in announcing the existence of this so far in advance, but: imagine if they'd just stayed quiet then randomly posted an image of a new Actual High Elf mini without comment on Warhammer Community lol
  6. A few assumptions I have about this: GW are probably not dumb enough to make lots of people rebase their army for a second time in a few years The logistical challenges of making round base models be on square bases are minor and have in fact already been solved comprehensively The existence of secondary/different timeline game systems in 40k have not ruined that game or set brother against brother in bitter blood feuds The % of the overall player base who will see this as a major betrayal or an unacceptable drain on AOS development resources is not significant my longstanding theory that Blood Bowl is canon, has always been canon, is not a separate parallel universe to the Old World, that there are Blood Bowl stadiums all over the Old World, will be confirmed beyond doubt
  7. Human lifespans being as regrettably short as they are, it might make sense for them to make more than one period of the game's history available; the trapped in Amber pre-End Tmes period is a bit of a busted flush narratively, but if people want to buy a big model of Karl Franz because they played as him in Total War, take their money
  8. I think it's a bit more complicated than WFB fans vs AOS fans I was into the Old World as a kid and I still prefer it as a setting to AOS because it's much better-defined, I like low grimy fantasy better, and I have nostalgia for it With that said there would have been a 0% chance of me ever getting back into buying or painting GW miniatures if it wasn't for the fresh ideas and more flexible game options that came out once AOS hit its stride. I would have been happy dipping in via Total Warhammer and Vermintide and not rebuying £800 of updated sculpts of miniatures I already had as a kid and gave away to save space It makes a certain amount of sense for the Old World to exist as a secondary imprint for Warhammer now that AOS is established, and absence has made the heart grow fonder It won't appeal much if its just verbatim Oldhammer with expensive Forge World minis you need hundreds of. I would hope they keep the AoS focus on making the game accessible via battleplans, small scale skirmish stuff etc; I will never again paint 20 near-identical square base models of anything (imagine if there was a Mordheim expansion/reskin for Warcry!)
  9. The so-called "End Times" and the Mortal Realms are gonna be revealed to be a fever dream experienced by Karl Franz after accidentally ingesting a madcap mushroom imo He will rise slowly from his sick bed and heave a heavy sigh as the realisation dawns that his imaginary friend Sigmar still isn't real
  10. Do you reckon these Chaos Warriors will have the option to have two handed weapons? What happens to the old sets with the optional overpriced upgrade if they don't?
  11. That new 40k Chaos Sorcerer looks fairly easily convertible to AOS as well
  12. OK yeah, have my money I feel slightly bittersweet that the big battleforce box I have has suddenly become useful but that half of the the miniatures have been replaced by better looking ones. As noted though, they've been quite gentle about not changing the aesthetic totally so I guess the new ones can be the front rank. Chucking in a start collecting kit is a nice touch as well Love the Ogroid, give me a total Ogroid subculture pls GW, tell me what their economy is based on and what foods they think are gross
  13. I just dug out my half painted Ogroid Thaumaturge (Todd 'Turge to his friends) from the pile of shame and slapped a few layers on him yesterday, delighted to see that his less academically-inclined brother has burst onto the scene Such a great mini, it seemed like it was originally just designed as a cool-looking thing for Silver Tower and even the fluff was like "uh nobody really knows where these things come from but they're absolutely baller"
  14. SoH is pre-written and not randomised, so between that and having a GM to guide/rejig things it's easier to not get stuck in a slog where you wait four hours to finally open the boss room like in Silver Tower I only GM'd one session of Hammerhal and found it fairly fun, even if you may want to embellish some details and make bits of it more roleplay focused. Some of my group weren't playing miniatures from the box and it's not that big a problem to substitute them. What I did was do a little precis of the short story from the rulebook that sets up the dungeon crawl, using some of the incidents as a little tutorial to teach the combat and movement mechanics. As part of that I figured out which characters logically subbed in for the ones they weren't playing and came up with a reason for them to be together as a party. There's no rules incompatibility with subbing in any of the other available WHQ character cards, but some of the characters are much more balanced or fun to play than others. Main thing is if you don't have a stormcast character, someone needs a reason to be following/be the owner of the gryph hound, who does need to be included for plot purposes For managing absences all I've done is let players joining an established party take one or two skills or items to help them be on a level with the other players. The WHQ games are a big time commitment and it is hard to complete a whole playthrough with one group, especially if people get fatigued by Silver Tower's unpredictable slogginess - having a GM to make sure it stays fun and breezy or end sessions at a logical point may help with Hammerhal
  15. The way most people end up, it's probably still cheaper if you include the cost of the PC that can run it
  16. My feeling is that although market pressures might compel Josef Bugman to a produce a beer weak enough to be labelled XXXX, he would be too embarrassed to widely advertise it
  17. Yeah, it's a bit of a different thing to TK if Tyrone and Chuckles are still established characters in the setting who are clearly implied to have forces of their own mustering in Hysh. As opposed to the very minor Easter eggs about Settra, and Bretonnians being implied to have become the deranged cannibal race. Its still a pretty big leap of faith though with nothing new announced and so much HE stuff going though I don't remember, what happened to the Night Goblin fanatics and other old goblin models that got superseded by the Gloomspite release? There could theoretically be an updated Light Elf release that includes new sculpts like reimagined high fantasy Spireguard etc alongside whatever this new stuff is somewhere down the line, but I don't remember there being a corresponding bonfire of Moonclan stuff causing ruffled feathers at the end of 2018, I feel like it was quite a quick changeover? - A guy who spent the last 6 months painting 10 Spireguard, and folks they don't even look great
  18. I know there are likely to be new chaotic beasts added sooner or later, but is there any reason why you couldn't sub in thematically appropriate fighters from the existing warbands as random twist deck monsters instead of/in addition to using the ones from the starter box ? E.g having a particular area be infested with chainrasps/savage orcs/squigs that attack everyone. Or for the "Apex Predator" twist card where you add one 30-wound variant of a monster, you could add an ogre/troll/chaos spawn and use the rest of the Ogor Breacher statline for it Idk I just I like the idea of a mighty chaos warband finally brought low by the rogue squig herd that chased it across the bloodwind spoil for eight days and nights
  19. Did you have to drill them to do this or did the magnets fit without?
  20. The beast elves look pretty stupid. The fish elves also of course look extremely stupid. My prediction would be that whatever the light elves end up being will also look stupid, but the shadow elves will look sort of cool.
  21. Interested that the unmade are last in the poll standings. I have an unsubstantiated hunch that they're a lot of people's second favourite one I really like the Dark Souls-y "eugh who would come up with that?" vibe of the leader
  22. Adding another vote for an expansion down the line that introduces more of a role for shooting and magic, along with a more detailed table for injuries, and skills that really let you specialise fighters (and get occasional lucky level-up rolls leading to unusual character builds like in Blood Bowl) I just really like the idea of some ****** specialist deadeye sniper racking up loads of kills over a campaign, and then one day getting grappling hooked off a high ledge and everyone else rejoicing that he lost an eye and no longer has any depth perception That said I am sympathetic to the idea that all that '90s d66 table stuff does result in campaigns running out of steam, and maybe it works better as some optional hardcore rules, or in the hopefully inevitable Cyanide video game adaptation in five years (I don't actually remember if the Blood Bowl league I ran as a kid ever actually finished, but I remember one of my catchers rolling two double 6 level ups in a row, and no-one believing me or the guy I beat that it really happened. I guess you'll get a bit of that with the new campaign-with-whoever-you-want mechanic)
