  1. Thanks for the link man. Will order some for my freeguilds soon. There could definitely be some more diversity in their ranks. Do you know other sides to order heads for use with free peoples?
  2. This one was bought with the first bunch of minis at the end of february. I started him not much after but at the end it took about one month to finish him. This was the first mini I painted in steps with other stuff in between. In the end I`m happy how he turned out. I think he`s a worthy geneal to make the free guilds to Hold the line! But i have to admit that the model itself is not the most beautiful for me. There are more human models which will suit better as a general. Here are 2 WIPs which i will use as proxy for the general. One is the Ludwig of Schwarzhelm model which is far more detailed and has more life in it: And the other one is a Valten on horseback. The base will be too large for matched play. But damn, he just needs these two wolfs Somebody of you folks knows the warscroll of the freeguild general? Do you think it`slegal to have sword, shield and the banner? Or does the banner rule out other weaponry?
  3. I bought this one in our small local store. I literally bought every human mini in this store. So this gunmaster was one of my more early Miniatures. But I managed to paint this guy in the course of one weekend. Had the idea for the basing at work and was immediatly hyped. Started building/painting right after coming home. It`s the first mini I started to put much effort into the head. I really like the thought of him, sitting for a while behind this pile of rocks. Checking wind conditions and such. Just wating for his target to appear and make this important single shoot. It`s a pity that my dice hate me and i never had this shoot in a game. I think he turned out quit nice. Unfortunatly their is a GW base chart now and he should be on a 1" round Making a gif from the process was even an idea from work. I like making gifs. Have made some for other non hobby stuff too. I hope you folks like it too
  4. My second unit to paint were the 20 guards with sword and shield i had already assembled. On the 12th of march they looked like this: Obviously i removed the shields before painting. Subassembly is a thing now. Ten days later i had 20 of them nearly finished: For this 10 man units with champion, muscian and standardbearer i went with red clothbands. The other 10 got kinda purple ones. It took a my a while to bolster the ranks of each of the 2 units to 20 men. But here they are. The 5th... ...and the third swords of the Nordheim army. I really like how they turned out and at the moment they are the back of my army being present in every game. You can see the development in painting in this units. I often came back to these and added more detail. Someday i will redo these banners with something real fancy Here is one special dude of the 5th swords which i like the most: These 40 men are the only guards for now. And they have seen many battles. I hope i can add a lot of them soon. A block of 40 halberdiers sounds pretty promising
  5. The first unit to be finished were the 10 handgunners i bought the first day. I looked around in the old warhammer fantasy lore for a good colorsheme a long time. An decision wasn`t easy to made but at the end I took to the blue and yellow of Nordland and never regreted since. I really like the colorful look which most armys kinda lack in my opinion. I also decided to color those clothstrips they have attached in varoius manners to symbolize the regiment they belong to. Greenish tones for missle units. When i called them done on the 8th of march, they looked like this: Nothing too fancy, but i liked them from the start. Nethertheless i came back to extend the painting later. But these 10 guys are only half of the unit. I went for some other minis in between but by the 3th of april i finished the other half of this unit. They already have some green on their bases and the second layer on the uniforms is more bright. Which i like really much. Someday later I added another layer to them and finished the banner. Today the 10th rifles of the Nordheim army look like this: The champion with the long rifle is called Jonny. jonny is a real marksman and even shot Nagash right into the face. Until now these are my only handgunners. I still have another unit of 20 assembled and primed but they`re still waiting for some paint.
  6. It was the 23th of february in 2018 when a colleague of mine started a get-to-know-warhammer-event in our company. Thanks Pete! 😀 I was hobbying some years before with a tiny force of some chaos warriors in 8th edition, but never got them to the table. So i was eager to play my first game. Due to Age of Sigmar the rules where easy to understand und we all had a really nice evening. During the whole event i told everbody that i don`t have the time to hobby again. The next evening i sad at my desk which looked like this: I went to the local store right after work and bought the only Free People kit they got. Handgunners! The old painting station was banned to the cellar for years. But the colors and primer were still in good shape so i was able to start directly. I won`t explain the decision for the free people because it`s clearly the only sensable one. For everyone I tend to exaggerate a little some times. And Warhammering was no exception in this case. 3 days and an express postal service later my desk looked like this: 20 Guards with sword and shield, 10 Handgunner, a General on horse to lead them into battle and the cannon for boom! The first army around 500 points ready to go. Unfortunately the painting took far longer than the assembling. In this blog i want to documentate the evolution of my free people army. It`s planned as a kind of timeline which i can read from time to time to bring back the good memories. Also i`d like to get some feedback and opinions for the painting, conversions, listbuilding and general hobby mischief I`m doing all day. An improvement in my english skills will come naturely, hopefully. Thanks Pete for bringing me back into the hobby!
  7. I absolutly hope so, but unfortunately i don`t think that the old models will return in a competitive way. I have 3 unbuild kits here and a Kurt Helborg model to lead them into battle. Looking forward to let them charge the enemy lines. It`s a pity that this will only happen in narrative play.
  8. I really like this idea, will try this in my next games. Thanks for this tip. Sounds fun Ahhh...damn, I forgot about this stupid rule. This one really sucks. For the FreeGuilds it is nearly impossible to include more than 2 allied units I myself played my first small local tournament last weekend to great success. Scored second place with a similar list. It is mainly inspired by the one @Hugh Halligan is playing. (See this vid on Page 6 of this Thread, great insight!) Next time i will skip the Quicksilver Swords and gamble for a triumph. I never used them in the tournament and think the triumph on a 30 man block of XBow men will have far more effect. The Tourny was really fun. I played Ironyaws in the first game on "The Better Part of Valour". Killed two mawcrusahers with the the crossbows only loosing one unit of guards in the process. The second game was on "Shifting Objectives" and really close and tense. In the end I wasn`t able to win against a DoK player. But even 80 witch aelves can be shred to pieces by Freeguild crossbow lines. The 3th game was "Focal Points" against a Legions of Nagash list. Luckily i was able to snipe his general turn 2 with my Luminark. After this the crossbows just had to perform their bloody work killing 60 zombies and 20 grave guards in one turn . Here some Pics: In the end i tabled two opponents and nearly tabled the DoK. In 3 games i killed 4300 points more than i lost. So the FreeGuilds can perform really well. With a little bit of luck here an there If you are interrested in a recap of the tournament by the DoK-player you can watch a video here. There you can hear his thoughts when facing the FreeGuilds. Sooo...long post finished. I hope it was fun to read for at least some of you guys. I wish you all the best of fun in your next games. For the glory of the Empire!
  9. Make the Griffon your general, give him the Indomitable command trait and place him directly behind one line of guards. With his 2" range attacks he can attack over the guards without being hit by 1" range enemies. If positioned well he gives those guards +1 save. So they are on 3+ rerolling ones. Pretty tough You even have an artefact left to choose. With the realm artefacts there are plenty good choices. Gryph-feather Charm, Lens of Refraction, Ghyrstrike, Ignax's Scales to mention just a few. If you go with two cannons you just have to take an engineer. There is no point in refusing those reroll of hits, 4+ isn`t as good. Just take the gunmaster and you have another 30" shot as well.
  10. Every model can shoot in an unit armed with militia weapons. In fact it is not possible to mix different weapons in an unit, except it is stated explicitly in the warscroll.
  11. Hey guys, I had a fun game with a buddy yesterday and wanna tell you how my freeguilds performed against Nagash himself. We both started wargaming 7 months ago, so there were some stupid faults and a lotta fun on both sides I took the list @Matador suggested earlier in this thread with one adjustment. I took a second general instead of 10 xbows because i know my mate always tries to snipe my general. He played Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead with his Battalion. We played the scenario "The Better Part Of Valor". I played 2 drops with the whole battalion at once + 2 second general so i finshed first and gave him the first turn. Here a picture after deployment. His Gravesides marked in red and the 6 objectives marked in yellow. In the first round nothing big happened. He moved forward and tried some magic with the Spell Portals which happily only killed one Guard. I also moved forward and tried to block Nagash and his Morghast with my Guards so they couldn`t fly over the mountains. On the far left my cavalary went for the objective but wasn`t able to obtain it in the first round. Here a Pic after the first Round: For the second Round i was lucky and got the double turn. I was able to clear the Black Knights on the left and claim the objective. I didn`t wanted to move the units which blocked Nagash so i did nothing more on my turn. I was curious wether he will get Nagash through the center or if he will bring him back to the left to reclaim the objective. I would have been happy if he`d move Nagash in the corner of the battlefield . Unfortuenatly he only send the Morrghast down on his turn. Nagash moved up the center and killed the Guards. His Morghast killed my Pisotliers. He decided to burn his objective on the right because he knows what a Great Company with 50 xbows can do. Afterwards he moved his Grave Guard into the middle. In the third round he was lucky and got the double turn. (Pity for burning the objective on the end of round 2) This Pic shows the table after his movement phase in round 3. My general in the middle was dust-handed by Nagash through the spell portal shortly before The Morghasts managed to kill one Demigryph and 3 Outriders. Luckily i still had the objective. Nagash didn`t do much, he just killed the last Greatswords and some Handgunner. His skeletons finally arrived at the enemy lines and i faced horrendous 130 attacks against my Guards which got debuffed twice (-2 hit, -2 bravery) beforehand by Nagash. They just killed them all. On my 3th turn i made a big mistake bringing my remainig cavalary to the center to threaten his objective. I intended to burn the objective on the lower left but forget that my units hat to remain there until the end of the turn to do so ? But my Crossbows went crazy on the skeletons, with Hold the Line and Writ of Dominion it took only 30 xBows to inflict 33 wounds and kill all of them! I burned the upper left and middle objectives at the end of the 3th round. If not for my stuiped fault with the lower left objective i would have won here. So there was still a chance for him if he could break my Great Company and save his last objective until the end. He started the 4th round and did some magic. The game ende was he faileing a charge on my cavalary with his Morghast. Double 1 We ended the game here because I would have taken his last objective at the end of my 4th turn. Here`s a pic of the end It was a really funny game. I played the regiment for the first time. The cavalary is really strong with the +1hit buff by the regiment. Bringing them down to steal his objective was the game winner for me i guess. For the Great Company i can`t say much, they stayed in the corner most of the game. I will definitly deploy them in the center next time. On the other hand they made the opponent to burn his objective too early. I like the fact that Great Companies strike fear into the hearts of the opponents I hope you guys enjoyed the reading. Some comments or tips for future games are much appreciated.
  12. But there is the possibility to achive rending on 4`s. Just stack "Hold the Line" and the artefact "Writ of Dominion". This works at least for one round.
  13. Hi Matador, thanks for your answer. Unfortunately i just don`t get it. In my club my mates all know how the great companies work and i can`t stop them from making my great companies useless with their charges. The point is: How do you prevent the enemy from charging in a way that all my great company units have an enemy unit within 3" and therefore no longer can lend support. My Great Companies can`t support each other because my mates always manage to charge these ways. Especially with these flying Nighthaunt units. Do you prevent this by your formations or by having units in the flanks? Is this more in the kind of A or B in the following image? Or do i understand it utterly wrong? Is this triangle meant like this? I can`t help myself but i think that I`m doing something entirely wrong with the positioning of my free peoples. I`ll definitly will try out some formations on the table but at the moment I`ve no clue were to start. Any help or suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!
  14. The battalion states 3 units of Guards. The modelcount in each unit doesn`t matter as long as you have 3 units. So 3x10 Guards in one unit wouln`t be legal in terms of the battalion because you`d only have one instead of the needed 3 units. On the other hand, one unit of 30 guards and 2 units of 10 guards each would be legal. This is at least my interpretation of the battalion warscroll.
  15. Thanks for this insight Matador. How to you run the larger company? Do you fit both crossbow units wholly within 12" of the Guards? Or is one crossbow-unit supporting the other crossbows but not the guards? I find it hard to position my units in the great companies due to the AoS 2.0 rulechanges. Thanks for your effords!
