  1. My main concern with the GHB is for factions that have had updates recently but are significantly behind the new power curve i.e. Maggotkin of Nurgle, Nighthaunt, and Gloomspite (Gloomspites are a bit of discussion and we haven't seen their GHB changes yet). What happens to them? Poor Rotigus is just over a year old and is pretty much restricted to just praying to the dice gods that he can actually get his spell off and stomp some Nighthaunt heroes. My other concern is rules like the already infamous terrain rules. I just can't believe that actually got play tested or if it did they even bothered to read feedback. I got the impression from your post that you were providing feedback on the current gaming scene, not that they sent you beta rules or points values to try out. Have you or anyone you know received beta rules before?
  2. Against Fyreslayers: Don't face plant a fully buffed Hermdar HGB unit from the Lords of the Lodge battalion. I don't care if you're the Gristlegore general it won't work. Seriously, I've won a lot of games by people doing this. Do: Play the objectives. Fyreslayers don't have a huge amount of bodies and our mobility sucks. This is usually how I lose games. Do: Kill the heroes. If a Fyreslayer hero is on foot he's easy to kill. If he's on a Magmadroth he can be a lot tougher but is still highly vulnerable to mortal wounds. Keep in mind: Fyreslayers are a slow moving death star army, play accordingly. Fyreslayers, unless allying in Stormcast or taking specific artefacts, have no unbinding ability or ability to dispel endless spells. The 4+ ignore spell artifact has a wholly within 12 inch range and is carried by a hero with a 3+ save, no mortal wound save and 5 wounds. Vulkite Berzerkers pile in when they die ability is once per game and has to be activated at the start of the combat phase. Its tricky but very possible to play around, especially for armies that can attack at the start of the combat phase. Against Nurgle: Move your army onto objectives. More seriously: Kill the Harbinger of Decay if your opponent is playing mortals. If you see a bunch of Blight Kings throw a -1 hit on them as they are very dependent on rolling a 6+ for their damage output. Don't be afraid to engage a Great Unclean One, most people seem to seriously overestimate both their durability and damage potential. A sword/flail GUO with + hit on his sword is about the only kind that can really do damage. GUOs can heal quite a bit so make sure to focus fire them down as much as possible. If your opponent is running Thricefold make sure to save an unbind for Plague Wind. Rotigus's Deluge of Nurgle is probably the most overrated spell in AOS if you're not Nighthaunt (Sorry, Nighthaunt). Nurgle's damage output is for the most part very low so if you can lower it further by debuffs and removing a few key components you can just pile on to objectives and win.
  3. Its weird but I find myself really liking it the more I think about it. I might need to go back and actually finish my Imperial Knight army.
  4. Is the Anvil of Apotheosis still off-line in the lore? I know GW can just snap their fingers and say its back if they want some characters reforged but I'm curious.
  5. With all the releases recently I'm kinda glad lol. I've got Fyreslayers, Gloomspite, Khorne, and Skaven to work on. Almost every army I play has had releases this year.
  6. I'll agree on the use of more terrain as well as codify it into the game more. Its more of an issue in 40k but terrain can have a large impact on the outcome of a game. I've always thought it would be cool if they did battleplans that specified specific terrain and how it should be laid out i.e. how online strategy games like StarCraft have official maps for their ranked games. We are absolutely sure these terrain rules are for matched play. However, there is a very high chance of day 1 errata which may be reflected on the website. Current reviewers are just reading the book as it was printed apparently over 6 months ago (I don't work in publishing but da fudge on that lead time). Last year's Command Point stacking debacle makes me wonder if they'll stubbornly hold off on fixing it for awhile.
  7. *Laughs in Honest Wargamer* I think Horrors will be seeing a lot of play this year.
  8. Battletome rules dont supersede matched play rules. The new Terrain rules specifically say they apply to faction terrain and if you can't place them you can't use it. That said, I'm not using that rule and I dont think anyone one in my gaming group or the local tournament organizers well. As people have pointed out it just breaks Sylvaneth and pointlessly hurts numerous factions. It's just a blow against a game when you have to home rule it in order to make it playable. Won't kill it for sure but this is extraordinarily bad rules writing for a major company. It harkens back to the old GW that made me quit back in 7th ed 40k/launch of AoS. Rules like this make me question if GW rules writers even play their own game let alone play test it. Like stacking command abilities at the start of 2nd edition.
  9. I feel like the points changes are in the right direction but too small to matter. Nurgle, I think will continue to fall behind and disappear from the competitive scene despite being a 2nd edition battletome. I'm less familiar with Nighthaunt but I suspect people will continue to only take them in LON or Legion of Grief. The deciding factor will be what they plan to do with Skaven and FEC but I'm not holding my breath. A 20 point increase to ghoul kings on Terrorghiest won't change much.
  10. No Glottkin changes are disappointing, guess he'll stay on my self. I was hoping to ally him in my Clan Pestilins force I'm working on. I suspect these point changes won't be enough to really change anything meaningfully. They're in the right direction but just not enough. A lot will depend on what they do with the newer battletomes in the upcoming FAQ/Errata.
  11. I played around with a few colors yesterday and generally liked them quite a bit. Interesting note: Snakebite Leather is almost identical to Scale 75 ink tense wood but more matte. Black Templar was nice but I can almost exactly duplicate it with 1 part scale 75 flat black and 2 parts flow Improver. Warp Lightning Green is probably may favorite (of the 5 I tried). Solid coverage and got a neat effect on a skaven weapon by putting it over an edge highlight of yriel yellow. Cygor Brown is a little too dark but I think will be fine if thinned with some medium but my store didn't have any. Some glazes of ratskin flesh over it still produced a nice effect for skaven skin/fur. I think a traditonal zenthol in general isn't necessary for these paints. They're high pigment and opaque enough that the shadows are already pretty dark. A zenthol of white over the base might help emphasize highlights. In general I've found a solid prime of ghost grey (similar to grey seer) works best.
  12. Pusgoyles and especially the Affliction battalion are something I could see getting really good with some points reductions. I'm not sure if the drop is enough to make it competitive but a very fast, very tanky, and moderately hard hitting unit could be ace to seize an objective early on or trap an opponent in their deployment zone.
  13. The ability to resurrect a summonable unit of any size for 1 cp (most notably grimghast reapers) combined with stacking deathly invocations along with a general that is largely unkillable (Nagash) means they have incredible board control as removing or reducing their model count is effectively impossible for some armies. Nagash's dispels also just shut down armies that depend on spell casting like Tzeentch. I was thinking they would do something like separate out the Nighthaunt units from LON (this was a major theory at the time) or adjust the Undying Legion command trait to only work on Zombies and Skeletons or limit the size of units it can bring back. Reducing the number of gravesites could also make zoning a more effective tactic and limit deathly invocations a bit. Lowering Nagash's dispel bonus would also make him less harsh against other magic factions. Its worth noting that there has been some major power creep in recent months with Skaven and Flesh-Eater courts leading the way that are definitely making LON, DOK, and for that matter Sacrosanct Stormcast seem much more reasonable (Sacrosanct units were considered pretty overpowered for awhile). Though LON and especially DOK are both still doing extremely well on the tournament circuit.
  14. I think it will depend on the models. I've been pretty happy about the lack of mold and join lines on Bloodreavers. Older models like Plague monks and Bloodletters are another story. I spent 2 hours cleaning mold lines of off a box of Plague Monks and I'm still finding more as I paint. Its a nightmare.
  15. I was seriously taken back by how they completely failed to address Legions of Nagash or Daughters of Khaine in the last Big FAQ or rather small FAQ. It was a major missed opportunity for them.
  16. I think we'll start to see more model releases decoupled from battletome releases once they get the big battletome push done. Personally, I'm thinking Skaven will get something in 2020 like some new models for Nightrunners and/or Gutter Runners.
  17. I'm assuming that player lost to a Thricefold list...
  18. I'm painting some plague monks and had to just give up removing mold lines at a point. I'm fairly serious about trying to get good paint jobs but ****** with some of the older kits. I don't have the patience to spend 40 hours trying to remove every bloody line from every little area.
  19. I find it hard to believe the GHB was finished before Gloomspite. Especially since they were asking for points feedback for the GHB in December when Gloomspite would have already gone to print. If anything I think having the points as a separate booklet would allow them to hold off on finishing points adjustments for a bit longer. As for the cut off-I'd think about 3 months before the GHB was released so March-ish. I think FEC and Skaven will be the big question since they're probably close to the cut off and major over performers (especially FEC). Unless they give out massive points reductions for most factions I think they're going to get major push back if they don't touch FEC. I'm curious about Maggotkin of Nurgle, Nighthaunt, and Gloomspite as they are AoS 2 battletomes that seem to be behind the power curve of the other new edition battletomes.
  20. I was thinking the same thing. A lot of the points adjustments for armies in that list made sense but the ones for Nurgle are pants on head retarded.
  21. All this talk about GW paint costs has me interested in the costs of miniature paint lines. Anyone want to put together a ranking of all of them and their costs? (lol, not it). Or is this available somewhere? From my personal experiences, i.e. not an in-depth analysis taking into account of different outlets and special discounts. GW paint - All around most expensive miniature paint I've ever come across. I won't complain about their quality though (expect for some of the metallics) Scale 75- 2nd most expensive paint though it varies depending on specific line. They can cost as much as a GW paint pot but they have more volume so its still cheaper per ml. Special shout out as my favorite brand. Vallejo-pretty cheap but inconsistent for me since no retailer regularly stocks them in my area so I get all my stuff from Amazon. Special shout out to their metallics. Army painter- cheapest brand I've encounter though I'm almost always getting it at a discount through a local provider. Probably the worse quality wise but still perfectly acceptable for mini painting. Reaper- Same has army painter. I haven't bought any in years due to it not being available at the game stores I play at and I don't like it enough to go online.
  22. I think a rewrite would be nice but not necessary really. Raising GUOs to 380 and Rotigus to 400 though is pure insanity that will just ensure they never see the tabletop in anything remotely competitive. And not cutting points for pusgoyle blightlords and the new plaguebearer heralds is a missed opportunity. And basically every battalion that isn't Thricefold. Those point suggestions look like they came from a player who knows next to nothing about Maggotkin and got touched inappropriately by a Thricefold list once.
  23. This was posted in the Fyreslayer Facebook group and people are saying it's a wishlist from 1d4 chan not sure if that's true. Most of the changes look pretty good but the Nurgle ones are baffling. No changes to the Bilepiper and Scrivener and a points increase to GUOs (Rotigus to 400 lol) is completely insane. This would kill Maggotkin of Nurgle (the battletome). The only good thing is it would let you bring the glottkin as an ally in a Clan Pestilins army.
