Akylas
Mostly Citadel because I'm used to it, and some Reaper and Two Thin Coats.

I'm one of these, but to be clear I have no complaints about the quality of the product. Would prefer dropper bottles, but otherwise it's perfectly good paint, and for some colors & purposes better than alternatives. If I didn't like the paint I wouldn't use it, convenience be danged.

Same. I would like to try other paints too.
Big Kim Woof-Woof
As an aside, when it comes to brushes, Reaper's sable ones are the real business. Really durable, and not too expensive (at least in my slice of the world).
Flippy
I think that (at least with major brands) the quality of the paint is almost always at least adequate. Less so with the brushes.
Tonhel
Citadel, but I am slowly switching to Vallejo. They have redone their range. Love the matt finish.

Same, i cut the bristles and use them for drybrushing or painting scenery. Worst brushes i have bought so far.
Dukeus
Mostly citadel because thats what i started with. And the Paint Tutorials used these colours. I Like the paints themselfs but the Pot is absolut garbage. Designed to lose 30% of your Paint. I switch them Out with vallejo step by step

For my rarely-used Citadel paints, I always had minor spills and the last bit of paint usually dries up or separates.
Flippy
It dries up because the pot cap usually gets dirty and it quickly becomes impossible to close the pot properly. So, the caps need regular cleaning - which is just poor design.

Yes basicaly Like Flippy Said. I have the same Problem. And the Shades have some Secret "Open Cap and pull human Hand" device in it. SciFi Technologie. I always spill These
wayfarer
I use mainly Citadel mainly. Because of ease of access and use over many years. For those who say Citadel don't change their pots they do. Just not by much and never an improvement.

Hey, that's not true. Anyone remember the horror of the screwtop pots? Edited April 24 by Big Kim Woof-Woof
Chikout
I use citadel because I'm colour blind and switching to another brand would mean learning what all the colours are. More tutorials use GW paints than any other. GW paints are easier to get hold of than other brands where I live and apart from the white paints I've been pretty happy with them over the years. Kagutabby
I mostly use Citadel just out of... inertia, I guess? I really should branch out next time I buy some paints. I've got a few Vallejo paints and they've all been good-to-great - the premium metallics especially. I own exactly one bottle of Two Thin Coats (some sort of lavendery colour I wanted for who knows what, because I literally don't own anything painted that colour now) and it definitely seems nice, so maybe I'll grab a few more. The best tip anyone ever gave me for working with Citadel paints is that you can invert the lid by pressing on the middle, which makes it much easier to get the nasty ring of dried paint out. Still a massive pain compared to dropper bottles, but at least they don't end up drying out quite so often.
MitGas
Vallejo recently just redid their model color line similarly like they’ve redone their game colors. I ordered a couple to see how they turned out but the game colors became really great with the update. Two Thin Coats is hard to get for me unfortunately, would‘ve liked to try them. Kimera I‘ve yesterday tried at a friend‘s place when I helped him with a terrain piece - they‘re pretty epic but totally wrong for what he wanted in the piece (muted, drab colors), they‘re like the exact opposite to that. 😂👏 If you like vibrant colors and like mixing (both with each other and thinning), they might be a really solid pick! spazz
Like most folks I have a collection made up of many different manufactures but my go to's are from Pro Acryl & AK gen 3. I was a very early adopter of Pro Acryl from when they were first introduced on the Creature Caster website & from following Jason's Twitch feed. They are really excellent paints. AK is a more recent purchase...well Gen 3 anyway as I used to buy P3 paints but they've become very hard to find in my area so I switched to Gen 3 and am really happy with them. For metallics Metal Color for anything silver/steel and really just about any other manufacturer for other metals (Gen 3, Pro Acryl, Scale 75...etc)

For metallics Metal Color for anything silver/steel and really just about any other manufacturer for other metals (Gen 3, Pro Acryl, Scale 75...etc) If you want to stick with just Metal Color for metallics, a mix out of the Old Gold and Copper paints makes for a great gold that isn't too cold. Or just mix one of their silvers with inks or even Contrast paints etc. Vallejo's new model color line is more like their (GREAT!) new game color line by the way. Very decent paints, easy to work with paints and that have no "quirks" (quirks might be the wrong word, their consistency/handling is just something you need to keep in mind) like scale75 or Kimera. The new colors are an exact match to the old ones and they added a very nice dark blue (almost black-blue) that is something I use for my figures, so that's nice. Haven't tried the metallics of the new model color line though. Right now, from all brands I own, I find Citadel and Reaper paints to be the worst overall. They have some great colors too, but some are a bit crappy too tbh.

I usually gravitate towards Oranges & Teals/Turquois so when a newline is released I grab a few samples of these colours and giver a go. The old line of Army Painter has some of my favorite colours (Lava Orange..etc) and find it quite interesting the the old versions require far less shaking as they never seem to seperate all that much. whereas the newer line (prior to the relaunching ) need to shake the bejesus out of them and they don't match up to the old. Even their newest line can't colour match to the vibrancy of the old one, however the New Game Color line comes pretty damn close. I'm with you on the Citadel & Reaper lines, enjoy quite a few but they do seem to be bottom tier nowadays. I do however enjoy the few Contrast paints I own & as for Scale 75, I've never really been on board with them. I have some....maybe 1st gen versions and that was enough to really put me off of them. They glaze terrible but layer like a dream so they have their uses. I do have a few newer ones and they seem to glaze better but the damage was already done. I think it was Vince Venturella (sorry if I misspelled the last name) that had a nice recipe for a gold using Metal Color & Green Stuff World gold pigment if I'm not mistaken, haven't gotten around to trying that yet, but it looked aces!

I know Vince swears by using VMC with Fyreslayers skin (or something like that) contrast paint for bronze tones. I find that mixing VMC gold and copper creates a truly pleasing gold, haven‘t tried the pigments though, that sounds interesting. But I usually remain remain strictly in the realm of cooler tones so I don‘t want a truly warm gold anyways.
Gitzdee
I see way too many different boxes from vallejo and AK gen3. Any good allround boxes out there to start out with? Buying a whole range is no option sadly.
