I pledge to do the following bits of the Mortal Realms Collection: Thorns of the Briar Queen Tomb Banshee Knight-Questor The banshees of the Mortis Engine (so it will be finished) Optionally, I'll work a bit on my son's Treelord Ancient, or most probably I'll work on this diorama/terrain I've come up with, using the spare vampire ladies from the Mortis Engine and some OpenForge printed floors and walls (from the Dungeon Stairs set). Hi all. I've been able to complete my pledge successfully, to my relief 😅 Further more, It's the first time I have added some rust effects on some metals (subtle, still) and I've been improving my gradient skills, with (i think) good results on reds, nice results on greens, and mixed results on blue. I don't do heavy gradients yet, tho. Still improving. Now the photos. I've liked a lot painting the thorns, as i have already painted 20 chainrasps, I got the trick of it. Added rust effects to the blades, and nice gradients on the reddish parts: With that practice, I went on to further work on the reddish gradients on the tomb banshee. Also, first time using Green Fluorescent paint (Vallejo) for some effects on the eyes. I'm quite happy with the outcome: Enough red. Next, for a total change of theme, I painted the Knight Questor, giving him extra care. First time adding some freehand details. I'm very happy with all of it. But, yeah, I've given this guy around 8 hours of my life.... And last but not least, I painted all three vampires of the diorama, which I call "my RGB vampires". Very happy with all, as well. The blue one gave me some problems on the highlights in blue, because I went with turquoise, but got it more or less sorted with a glaze, and learnt a lot in the process, about gradients, 3d prints, magnets (I magnetized all the vampires and the cauldron), creepy eyes... The Treelord is still wip and the banshees for the mortis engine are finished too, but I won't post the photos again because it looks more or less the same as last month's without them Also, my 10 year old kid wants you all to know that he has painted a kurnoth hunter (only small fine detail corrections from me) Very satisfied!! On to next month! Edited May 26, 2020 by Chikrit Typo 6
Artobans Ghost
@Chikrit those 8 hours were worth it! that sword is freakin awesome! the green eyes on green no less. zilberfrid
My gyrocopters both have been getting along. The metal GW one is halfway constructed, with the rotor sadly a bit uncooperative. The kitbashed one is a lot further along. Components: * Empire mortar body of the plane * Revell Fokker DVII for the wings and tail * Freeguild gunner for the body (fits with the size of the metal one quite well) * Kharadron Arkanaut head * Backpack and fumigator of Thundrik * Blood Bowl bombs * Bits of wire for the spars Most of my metal dwarves are also well on the way. Well on the way to Spain, where another member will do more with them than I am going to. 5
Chikrit
@Artobans Ghost Thanks mate 😃 Still lots to learn, but I it is a good start. For the eyes (if it is of any interest for the community), I followed this tutorial from Squidmar. It turned out really easy! 2
flamingwalnut
Alright! Got my pledge done in the past few days. Should have gotten more, but hey, things got weird this month. BUT, I am done, 3 Demigryphs, 10 Freeguild, and one fancy Gyrocopter (LOVE the model, sad it is so expensive....) Won't hit my stretches, and next month looms with an interesting conundrum in the "Tale of X Online Gamers" but for now, these will do! 5

Artobans Ghost
Still the ever present basing to be done but the Boingrots have bounded. Plus the whole Boingrot cavalry. I took an old conversion (cold one/squig morph) and made him a Loonboss on a giant squig. Somehow that gnoblar just doesn’t look right but I don’t have another rider at the moment.
Twisted Firaun
apologies @Kramer but I have been distracted with a Night Lords war band(they're looking pretty sweet tho), should get my contract battle ready by Friday if all goes well(and then I remember I'm out of primer)..... zilberfrid
Quick note, I did not pin the rotors of the Gyrocopter. It's a really small area. I probably won't play with it, but if the rotors break, I'm going to cast them in epoxy as a single unit, glue those on and store the metal rotors (the singular type of recasting of other peoples' IP that I think is not so bad). On to next month! Your paint work is pretty neat! But as a matter of constructive criticism, I think that you really should put a bit more of effort into the bases. Just by painting the sand and the stone with a base and a couple of layers of drybrush can make the model pop (and my opinion is that the base should’t be overlooked, as it poses near half of the miniature) Edited May 28, 2020 by Jymmy
TheOtherJosh
Thanks to @Kramer for this months Painting Contract! The end of the month is here so wrap up this month and let’s head to June 2020! We are at the 6 month point for the year ... and it’s been a challenge how are you doing towards your goals? (My painting and building goals are doing horribly! Thanks! 🙄)
Chikrit
@Jymmy Thanks a lot for your suggestion. It's something I've been thinking of lately, but I kind of like the natural colors of the sand and the stones. They give "realism", I might say. But it's also something I have to try some day. I always loved the models from their release, but having them in person now, they still hold a lot of weight! I didn't pick out a lot of details, going solid iron for the rider and solid Screaming Bell for the Demigryph plates. The basic look works well, but there is a lot of room for fancy detail if you want to embellish them. Just wish they weren't so expensive for 3 dudes, would LOVE a full Demigryph army. A common problem for the Cities of Sigmar. lol

Good to know their fun to paint.
Kramer
Getting there. Couple of more layers and details on the body. And hopefully doing the rider, saddle and thundertusk head on the side next month. edit: horrible picture. I’m taking a better one tomorrow. I got the Hammerhal box when it came out (decided that over Tempest Eye Dwarves because of Demigryphs and the Hurricanum, though having extra old Empire and liking Liberators over Persecutors also helped...) Would love a Start Collecting Hammerhal with like a Freeguild Guard or Handgunner kit, 3 Demigryphs, and a Griffon. Would be wonderful!

kaaras
So I managed to get all the heroes complete. These took a lot longer than expected as I have changed technique and it takes forever to dry in the cold... Anyway, here is a pic I think they turned out pretty well. Individual but unified through the gold. Each gold was a different recipe. Will be testing them in Hammerhal tomorrow! 2

Lowki
1. Finish Thorns of the Briar Queen 2. Start and progress with Black 3. One other mini Black Coach (In Progress): Also started with the dreadblade harrows, also as a test for the horses for the coach. It is not quiet finished, but with a bit of luck I will finish one tomorrow (and complete my pledge) In addition (for a bit of distraction) I also started with The Mausoleum, nothing finished yet, but some in progress: And of course finished the Briar Queen Warband earlier, as already posted before: All in all a good month for me . My goals are modest as always, but at least kinda completed them this time. That's a good thing or a slow painter with little time as I am. Also finally getting a better setup for my photo's I think. They always tend to be too dark, mainly because I want a dark background not showing all kind of nasty details like dust and cathairs. Think I improved the lightning a lot now. Not there where I want to be yet, would like to make the light more soft (like a softbox) to get rid of the shine ( the actual models have a more matt finish then how they show on the pictures actually) 5
