They’re fairly distinct. The War Shaper has distinct gear (staff, bow, triskele), a cloak and no hood. The Flesh Shaper has robes and assorted swords/axes.

If anything, this dude is sort of an update to the classic kroot shaper mini: hood, rifle, knee-socks. A bit plain but works for a lower level character.image.png.517c4c44fc3a1505920b6fc1236fa6dd.png

Yes but those are models that still have rules for them for that edition. If I want to take my old Landspeeder to a game I can despite it not being in the codex itself

Yeah, I saw it was addressed and made an edit (but not quickly enough!). (Though, they'd still probably have Legends rules regardless, which seems effectively the same?)

On the Spearhead vs Vanguard thing, it might be worth pointing out that the Spearhead: Stormcast Eternals is a clear equivalent to the Vanguard: Orruk Warclans.

Agreed. It's wave 1 of a faction update that only added 1 infantry and 1 elite alongside 5 heroes. Pretty much every FEC box is gonna have these two units for the next few years. As for the box itself, they could have at least replaced the Varghulf with one of the other new heroes. That would have solved the problem for those who bought the army box but might make it a weaker standalone box if Spearhead gets its own ruleset. I would have preferred it if they dropped one hero and added Crypt Horrors/Flayers instead but they probably wanted to stick with new units only.

You can look at it the other way around as well. If you have the box, and the Archregent (could even use the Gorewarden as proxy) you can go and play Spearhead mode if they launch it.

If the Spearheads launch at a price of 110 €, like the Orruks one, it would be mad for the CoS one! Like a 54-55% discount (including third party store discount) over the GW price for all their separate products.

I have been missing in action for the past few weeks, but just popping on to say I am excited to see that the new cities Spearhead will compliment my current little collection well. Now I just need to get the Potifex, Command Corps, and Callis and Toll. 

It won't be a balanced force by any means but it will get me a number of my most wanted models.

Btw, speculation time. The next Hachette collection would be based on the Combat Patrols. Do you see it feasible that in around 2-3 years we start seeing the trial period for a Spearhead based one that gets stuff like the minis they showed us today in those boxes?

Just chewing on recent stuff a bit;

The Beastmen had a Sire of Ruin character mentioned a few times around the time where Morghur, the main guy associated with mutations and spawns, was mentioned: story seemed to be building towards one or both of them

Beastmen were axed offscreen 

Now the Slaves have a character named the Lady of Ruin who, apparently, a few pages back was mentioned has having a spear that makes chaos spawn....

If beasts really are on the outs, and they really did have a narrative arc that was dropped, I wonder if the Sire of Ruin wasn't (to some degree) reworked into this Lady character? 

I could see "lady Varanguard boss who is hunting for traitors" and "herald of Ruin with spear of mutation" having been two separate ideas for a minute before things were adjusted

The specific title of "X of Ruin" being used for two different characters is noteworthy to me, though. I know AoS had some weirdness early on like Seraphon being a dragon and also Lizardmen, but to hint at/release two new chaos characters relatively close to one another that are both focused on "ruin" in particular in their title? Idk that's weird to me.

Well, she is not mentioned as Lady of Ruin, or even named trought the short story, but the asociation of lady boss varanguard and that title was made before. Also we kinda know for some whitefangs likes she has a lance iirc. In the story that lance has some kind of magic flamethrower that turns people into spawn or mutates them into things that look a lot to spawns. Kinda Tzeentch maybe?

I could see them do it quite easily. Something like 2 for each Grand Alliance with possibly a 3rd one for either Order or Chaos. The only question will be whether or not several of the Stormcast units from the new launch box and starters are a separate Spearhead to the revealed box

I don’t know if someone else has seen this, but Stu Black announced on LinkedIn that he is now Lead Product Development Manager for WH40K and Age of Sigmar. Does this mean that he is responsible for both games? I think that Ben Johnson was in that role for AoS - is Ben still part of the team?

I still Wonder if for the "half of the release" for the kroots rerange Warcom/GW IS counting the kroot aniversary model.

If they do, then its just two more kits left: the shadowy mounted character... And perhaps the Great gnarloc? But if they dont, theres space for another kit more, Id speculate about another shaper or gnarloc Riders.

Not to get our "Fantasty" forum too off track but I don't think we'll see knarloc riders. Maybe a greater at best. I think they'd overlap too much with rampagers. 

The unreleased rider silhouette has got to be a krootor (maybe a new name) unless they've redone the knarloc design. 

Anyone of these would be appreciated though.

I am currently listening to the realmstones episode of loremasters and I got an interesting idea.

In the video they mention that Ulgian realmstone can be found in the shape of spider webs. What about leaving the current incarnate as the Ghurian incarnate and reuse the spider one as the Ulgian incarnate? Maybe they focus on one incarnate per realm rather than a few per realm.

I think the model for a human woman who’s a member of the Varanguard is probably pretty unlikely to have been a BoC character they changed up at the last minute or something, the models get designed years in advance.

I’m still pretty suspect on the idea of BoC being squatted too, I know whitefang liked that post of the guy saying “they’re going to be put in legacy and squatted next edition so they can be in TOW” but this coming a little more than a year after they got a new battletome and model (which would then just.. cease to exist, I guess? Go out of production a year after it was created?) is such a deranged decision to me, cutting a faction out of a preexisting mainline game and dropping all its presence in the world of that game so you can sell less of those models in a specialist side game, feels like an impossibly bad business decision  with no real reason to do it.

 

I could see them getting a refresh, they’re one of the factions left who need it, but the idea of going “this faction that’s been in the game for the last three editions? It’s gone now, enjoy” basically arbitrarily is not something that makes any sense to me

Nah I doubt a varanguard character was made for Beasts, but a varanguard character they already had in the pipes suddenly getting a couple plot beats from a cut beastmen character's background makes sense to me. 

"Oh; the evil spear she has is a magic one that causes chaos spawns to spawn during a game" 

Causing lots of chaos spawns is generally a Morghur thing, or tzeentch
